  • To my mind, Henry VIII is considered to be a very extraordinary person. Firstly, I learned about him as he played a crucial role in the English reformation. So, after that, I got to know about his six marriages.
Still, I find it really interesting to learn about the young years of Henry, which influenced his future life, his character, interests and his outlook.

Actually Henry as a young man and King was said to be kind and generous, he was still hot tempered, but he wasn’t truly a tyrant until his later years. He was a good and loving husband to Katherine and a good father to Mary pre Anne Boleyn. Also u have to remember I’m talking about good and loving for the time period. Not what we would consider good and loving by today’s standards

Guys, king henry is a complety different person than he was portray in the series. He beheaded two queens because he counld't have a son. He was such misogynistic that his daughter with Catherine never married, because she knew what man are capable to do in that time, since her mother was prisioner until her death.
So he wasn't kind and loving. He was a king, who didn't love woman, just uses them, as we know he married six times. You have to separete real life and history from ficcional series.
P.S: His daughter with Ana Bolena, Elizabeth, that was the last tudor and never got married. Thank you guys for the correction.

Great video, really well done. I'm a bit shocked by all the crazies praising Henry for being such a Prince to Catherine in the beginning, like none of them seem to get how he started off cheating immediately in both real life and show, and how he acted like a spoiled a-hole from day 1 and backstabbed pretty much everyone constantly but since he's cute we all pretend differently lol.

Well, it is a TV show, so it's more about glitter than history. In the show, Catherine is no virgin either, so maybe they met their match in each other. I've read some history that suggests she was a virgin. She was noted for being generous to others, as she is to poor people and those around her who are upset.

Prince Harry is so much more loveable in this show than King Henry VIII is depicted in history (in his later years), which reminds me of how it's stated that he was quite charming and loved in the eyes of his people when he inherrited the throne from his father.

The real King Henry VIII never slept with Katherine's sister and Katherine probably never consummated her marriage with his brother because he was probably too sick and weak to have sex. And why would Henry be upset? Katherine was married to Arthur and it was expected for them to sleep together.

    • @juliaserento9928

Yeah their conversation at 1:40 proves it. He clearly knew. Then when their first son died, Catherine said if it's their punishment and basically told him just by giving him a look. Henry knew it but at that time was still in love and hopeful for an heir.

Well.. Catherine was from Spain, near the continent of Africa. It is a known fact that several royals had black servents or kinda " ladies in waiting "... So yes.
Also, Marie Antoinette had piano forte teacher who was black from the Antilles.

    • @maearcher4721
      @maearcher4721 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes. At least two directly at his father's and his own court(early in his reign) and we have names. Sort of.
John Blanke(the name could be derived from the word Black, they often had weird ways of spelling and nicknames), he was a troubadour and even made it upon Westminster Tournament scroll from 1511.
Second Catalina of Motril-woman that was part of Catherine's household and worked in Catherine's bedchamber.
But she was not a lady of bedchamber(that was honorary title just for people of higher status), nor was she noble. She was, in fact, a slave(later freed and returned to Spain, married there a crossbow-maker named Ovieto). She came from the town of Motril(near Granada) and was most likely captured during Reconquista, forced to convert to Christianity and given a Christian name, very likely chosen specifically to match her master(or mistress in this case)-Catalina(Catherine).
It would, of course, be CoA's parents who would send her to England with slaves(there were at least two, but we don't know the name of the other one), and she may have not agreed with practice (but we don't know really).
But it is a very different story than what Spanish Princess told. Real Catalina de Cardones(which was noble) wasn't mentioned by anybody to be black and had returned to Spain before Catherine became Queen, she didn't stay with her during her years of widowhood.
Other women did-Maria Salinas, Inez Venegas, Blanche and Isabel Vargas(who stayed with Catherine until she died! those two never left her service).
