    Another great one form the archives - things really have changed a LOT at this station - not only is it double track CTC now, but it's a junction again!

    I presume the buffer stop at 4:00 is where 191 met its fate in August 1991.

      The signal cabin is still there and its main function in 2023 is to allow staff to open and close the level crossing gates using the large handwheel! The semaphore signals are gone; replaced by colour light signalling and CTC. The track has been doubled to Maynooth. The other station buildings have been replaced with a modern station building, and there is a double track spur to the M3 Parkway near Dunboyne!

      The signalman gave a staff, also called a token, which is the drivers assurance that he wouldn't meet another train on the single line track. It was part of the mechanical signalling system which has since been removed.
