In April 2023 I travelled to Pajares to capture the last trains running over the famous mountain railway before the base tunnel opened. In November 2023 the base tunnel opened after 20 years of construction work. Unfortunately this means that the Pajares Pass will now see much less rail traffic and it's future is uncertain as there are plans to give up the mountain route, because of high maintenance costs.
I travelled from Austria to Spain by train. This was a challenge in itself as Spain and France are notoriously known for bad international connections. (e.g. French trains ending in France and Spanish trains ending in Spain, so you have to walk over the border and wait for 2 hours for the next train)
On the way back I explored the Basque Country around Bilbao and San Sebastian.
I edited this video already all the way back in 2023, but never managed to upload it. So I apologize it is not quite up to my latest quality standards, but I hope you still enjoy.
