The ones who did not speak a word of German (me included) started to shout ''Mexico, Mexico'' full of joy, but our guests had their faces red full of shame. We did not get it until someone explained to us (not our friends, they were too ashamed) the Finger im Po. Hahaha most hilarious cultural clash moment I have had, and I loved it so much. And finger or not finger in shit, Mexico! :D

Thanks to god most of these careers are finished during teen and twen age. Mickie Krause must have continued it as we can see and hear. In the second strophe of his song he describes his feelings when he was a child having to leave the Canaries at the end of holidays. He says he sung the refrain „Finger im Po, Mexiko“ on that occasion. So there we might have the autobiographical background of this jewel of a song. The following lines „Paris, Athen, auf Wiedersehen“ and so on sound like teen or twen age poetry. I think he must have developped it later to a party song for young tourists and their sangria parties on southern beaches. Deeper meanings are not to be expected.
