Great upload. My ancestor that fell at the Alamo was John Garvin. He fell at the West wall , manning a 6 pound cannon. He came from South Carolina.

I’m from the Bonham family, they actually have deep routes in South Carolina too.

Another beautiful old town and great viewing. Thanks for stopping long enough to be able to read the signs by pausing to understand what we are seeing rather than just rushing thru.

@@bertmullins3078 Hard to know. My grandfathers family all came from Byrdstown, Tn nearly on the state line separating Tenn and Ky. Roughly 20 or so mile south of Ft Campbell, Ky. I visited there once when my parents were alive in 1991.There were a lot of folks with the Mullins name that lived there.

@@phillipmullins1643 My wife and I both do genealogy research. There was a branch of the Mullins that moved into Tennessee, probably in the late 1700's. My branch moved south through the Carolinas, Georgia, Mississippi, Arkansas and into Texas. Though the two branches were separated there are a lot of given names repeated many times.

Kinda funny how the 'cabins' of old resemble the layout of 'tiny homes' today!

My daddy bought a farm there in 1955. We lived there until 1958, my parents sold the place and moved due to the CLANNISHNESS of the place. If you were not a fourth or fifth generation resident, you would never "belong". My maternal Grandfather had some relatives there for awhile, they are all gone. They have some excellent farmland up there, but it always looks run down.

Texas is so full of historical sites; my family not far from Bonham.
I really wish that the caretakes of the old cemeteries would scrub those old markers so we could see the art, its a craft completely gone

I live in Bonham but have only been here 4 years. This is one of the best rural counties in all of Texas! The people are awesome. As someone who has moved a lot, I can really appreciate how amazing it is that Fannin County has a very high amount of multigenerational family residents. I’ve met so many people who have lived here their whole lives and so have several generations of their family. That’s rare these days. I think it goes to show what a great place this is! I’ve also been surprised to learn all the history in this area!

I have a photo of my Great-great grandmother who was born in Fannin Co. I see the Native American in her, for she is staring at that camera so much harder than Great-great Grampa.
I had read in a book called The Plow-Horse Cavalry: 34th Texas Cavalry CSA. ln that book t mentioned a settlement called Shawneetown. And l say this because one her parents was born in Ohio.
I have tried to locate the settlement on maps, but so far no luck.
I worked on a house installing HVAC outside of a place called Frognot in Southwest Fannin Co. This was in '85 or '86. I laughed my butt off seeing that water tower!

It’s named after Lt James Butler Bonham. He was 28 during the battle of the Alamo and was manning an cannon at the Chapel. Many people claimed he was shot in the chest before he stabbed them with a knife and he was then stabbed and fell off the chapel. He was born in North Carolina

My grandfather's middle name was Bonham. Because his family once lived near Bonham, Texas before moving to Oklahoma at the time that Indian Territory was opened up for white settlement.

I grew up just west of Kuykendahl, and in between Louetta and Spring-Cypress going to Klein in the '70s.
