  • The AviationFix Piper Cherokee Six is heavily modified for speed and includes many of the LoPresti speed mods. In this video, we talk about the LoPresti speed mods and how they affect the speed of the airplane. The AviationFix Cherokee Six has the LoPresti Zip Tips, Howl Cowl, Flap Gap Seals, and fairings, as well as a one-piece windshield. All of these mods increase the speed of the plane and make it one of the most modified Cherokee Six aircraft that you can find! We hope you enjoy this little informational video!

    According to the aerodynamic work carried out by NACA, the rounded tips like the aircraft used to have are the most inefficient and drag inducing of them all. The Erich Hoerner tip design that you have fitted there is rated at 95% so it is much better, hence the performance increase.

      To be honest, we weren't the ones who installed the speed mods so we have to go through all of the documents to figure out a total price. It may be difficult to determine the actually cost after install. It is in the works, but sorry for the wait on this one. As for performance, we are beginning the process of putting together a long-term performance review but IFR training has been taking priority when it comes to our time.

      I think we briefly mention this in the video, but we usually do have them on. However, with Josh doing his PPL training in the Six, he decided to take them off to spare them from the hard landings.

    Hello, I was disappointed you didn't talk approximated cost and how many more knots the aircraft will fly. The main reason pilots add mods is to go faster. Many aircraft for sale ads talk about speed mods BUT not a one of them tells actual performance Improvement.

    • @AviationFix
      @AviationFix  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The short answer: we didn’t own this plane before the speed mods were added so we have no idea how much they add. Our approximation is around 10 knots.

      We cruise around 145-150 knots indicated, so there is a decent improvement. However, depending on what mods you are planning on adding, the cost for the speed increase isn’t worth it. Fortunately for us, the previous owner installed all the mods 😁

    • @AviationFix
      @AviationFix  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure how much help we can be seeing as we’ve only done this once lol, but we’ll try to give you some pointers! First of all if you haven’t seen our video on purchasing N2905B, go check check it out. We share some valuable information pertaining to the pre-purchase inspection and just general tips you could use to make the purchase process smoother. As far as finding the actual plane goes, look on Controller, Trade a Plane, or WingSwap. Those are pretty much the 3 main websites used to sell GA aircraft. As I’m sure you probably already know, the 1979 6/300 has some desirable features not seen on earlier models. The most prominent is probably the fuel tank system, and for that it’s worth the extra cash if you have it. As far as time on engine goes, don’t be afraid to get one with high time and have it overhauled before you even fly it, just make sure you take into consideration the cost of the overhaul. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to reply or to make a new comment on one of our other videos! Thanks for watching!

    • @AviationFix
      @AviationFix  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey kombolasha, Josh here! Great question! Wheel pants are somewhat sensitive to harsh landings, meaning they can crack if you bounce it or just don’t flair enough. Student pilots often struggle with smooth landings, at least at the beginning of training. Since a new set would run us around $3,000, we decided to just remove them for my training and reinstall them once I perfect my landings. Hope this helps!

    As stated previously I owed a Cherokee six for 20 years You can get your private license in one of these. It is possible but one thing you need to make sure of is your insurance company. I was told by my insurance company that due to the fact that it is classified as a high performance airplane that getting your private pilots license in it would invalidate my insurance. Could vary from insurance company to company. Just make sure that you are covered BEFORE you do it. Still one of the best airplanes ever built and the mods they have done just increase the great looks of the plane as well as the speed.

    I really take issue with the C-150 vs PA28-300 statement for training. Talk to some seasoned CFIs on that. You need to watch Dan Millican's video about making you tube videos on Taking Off. Review your script more. You did not anticipate the obvious questions which shows in the comments from others below such as what were the speed improvements and for how much? This video is about "speed mods" right? The jump cuts are so annoying. If you make a mistake in the shot do it over. Jump cutting around it is just plain lazy. If you have to cut go to a new angle but only do it if the idea being communicated is changing or taking a new direction. If a cut does not lineup with the punctuation in the your script, a red flag should go up. Justify it.
    I will leave on a positive note. Your sound was overall good. I difficult environment to be sure with wind in the trees but it did not interfere with the vocal. A+ for fixing the camera or getting someone else to hold it.
