One of the things I tell new players when they’re just starting is to go into the menu and read descriptions of items you pick up. It’s really helpful not just for understanding the world, but also can give you really useful hints on locations and game mechanics.
@@michellestreams its hard af, everyone struggles with this game at first. Even people who have played all the games. The things to discover in this game are just perfect. I believe in you!
It's all worth if you learn. You learn when you keep trying and continue adapting. Progress is relative. Take your time and enjoy your experience growing. The game won't get easier anytime. Good luck tarnished.. oh what if I was able to replay it the first time again.
Some tips I would give... 1) If you are carrying a decent amount of runes and going into unknown territory, or territory that you're struggling with...spend them, or farm a few more runes for the next level up 2) take it slow and try to kill one by one. Fromsoft loves its "ganks" (encounters where they ambush you with a bunch of enemies). Once outnumbered the chances of survival are slim unless you are overlevelled. Also when you kill enemy groups your flasks are partially restored, so kill everything and you will rarely run out of flasks 3) explore everywhere. If you skip most stuff and just do the main path you will miss so much loot and sidequests etc. The game is enourmous. Personally, I prefer the more linear focused experience of Dark Souls 3 but this game is still amazing 4) Try to lock on asap with an enemy. Sadly if you are out of range or don't have a "clear" line of sight the camera 180s which is infuriating. Every souls game is like this unfortunately so just try and get used to it lol 5) get the spirit calling bell and the wondrous psychick asap. These are two key game mechanics 6) only use signs to see if a drop from a ledge is survivable. Other than that they arent worth reading as the majority of them are just trolling (like putting one next to a wall to make you think there is a hidden path when there isn't one) 7) Dont just use your Stonesword keys on every imp statue you see as they are expensive at the start and not that common. Look up what youre using the key in as the item might be something you don't want There are more but thats just some basics. Whilst its not mandatory to play the games in release order you will miss some nuances to the evolution of the combat and recurring characters etc. If you do play DS1-DS3 I'd recommend play 1 before 3 just for the callbacks
thank you sm for the tips!! im going to follow a beginners guide to the game off camera, then come back to stream with hopefully a lot more knowledge :)
@michellestreams after getting your horse go back to church of Elleh to get the spirit calling bell (and the crafting kit if you didn't already buy it), then go to third church of marina as this gets you the wondrous flask where you can mix different buffs. Both of those are key game mechanics. After that I would then suggest heading to weeping peninsula in the south despite the game telling you to go to Stormveil Castle first Buy any cracked pots you see as well as these are useful for crafting fire bombs etc. You also want to find a torch asap or buy the lantern from weeping willow merchant. You'll need this in caves as they are usually pitch black. If your TV is dark then the lantern isn't enough light imo. So I use a torch and raise it with L1 for even more light. I like the steel wire torch as it sprays fire an aoe but even the regular torch stab attack is good for a backup fire attack anyway
Don’t worry because it’s always tough for most people who are new to the series. I promise you if u don’t give up and keep trying, eventually everything will click. I recommend watching a beginner guide on your free time, because I know sometimes chat can confuse you a bit. Have faith
I am really enjoying your play through. It is so much fun to get to experience a great game with someone for the first time keep up the good work and explore things in your own pace. Don’t let anyone tell you how to play or put pressure on you.
In the tutorial I don't even know if your shield can block him so they give you the message but I wouldn't be surprised if it was only for the "knight" class. I never bothered with shields so not sure. Samurai one shots this tutorial boss with its starting weapon
u can go anywhere in this game , i went straight for The Sword of Saint Trina after i went to get the blade of death dagger, good to see people still playing elden
Forgot to mention... Rotate your camera around walls especially in catacombs, as fromsoft love to pin enemies against the walls in your blind spot to attack you when you dont expect it. After a while it just becomes a meme and second nature to just check first About the first boss, technically its supposed to happen. However you can still beat it at the start its just incredibly difficult blind as you basically get one chance to screw up and have to hit it way too many times. The reward isnt even worth it anyway. There are videos on TH-cam of people killing it at base level which is just insane lol
41:00 just to make things clear, the problem isnt that the shield sucks xD you did it right the first time. You have to hold up the shield until you hear the attack connecting with the shield, only then, you immediately press ZR which will trigger the guard counter
It's really generous like almost a sec. You just wait for enemy to hit the shield then press heavy attack. Different weapons have faster guard counters like curved swords but does less damage and less poise. BUT if you want to use shield and go that route, you need greatshields with high guard stats otherwise any boss or normal enemy heavy attacks can break your guard leaving you vulnerable
@@moonrabbit2334never used a shield. Can you do that by just keeping the shield out the entire time? Or the shield has to be pressed like a parry at the exact moment to get a guard counter?
Timing is everything. U have to time correctly to parry. U have to time to dodge. Dont jus spam either 1. Dying is part of this game. Dont get discouraged. Vigor is important but so is damage so level weapons when u can.
To be fair, the parry windows on enemy attacks in souls games are always tiny, and they're different for every enemy. If you mess up, the damage you take is usually severe, but if you don't, then you get a riposte/crit afterwards, so it's a high-risk, high reward strat. Personally, I don't ever bother trying to parry as I get frustrated when it doesn't work, and I lose a chunk of health I could have avoided by just dodge rolling.
@dsprings8565 Oh, for sure, I don't doubt that some enemies are countered efficiently with parry, and most wouldn't know, but I don't think it's that many in the sense of easy parrying. Most people just don't have the patience especially when you can roll then spam R1 and the enemy usually dies

It was like driving past a car accident and rubbernecking in hopes of seeing an unalived body or something.
Welcome to Elden Ring. I hope you enjoy the game as much as I do. It's possible to parry lots of enemies, but it takes time to learn how to parry properly. Several great guides on YT to check out later. Take your time and don't give up. Have fun!
haha cool you dove in blind, to sprint you hold down A on your pro controller, sprinting while lock on can help you get behind big sheild guy,,tbh i'd start over with knight, knight has a 100% block sheild, also when your shield gets hit you can press r2 to do a counter,if you continue with merc the double swords only activate with L bumper, which does way more dmg, hitting r1 only uses the right sword and ignores the left sword, remember to lock on haha hope you become lord

I always assumed shields for absorbing damage in souls games were a joke tbh. I mean you probably can make them work but you need high strength and high endurance to equip the best ones and also not have the shield stance broken. If someone is playing dex then they're probably focusing on dex and vigor first. As for parrying the timing window is so tiny and different for every enemy so memorising this for every single enemy is a chore, and its not like there is no downside because if you mess up you probably lose 1 or 2 flasks
