- Score After 7 Events:
Again Faster: 13
Rogue: 7
With a quarter of the throwdown completed, the athletes headed to CrossFit Avalanche, a well-equipped gym in beautiful Tahoe Vista, CA., where they finished the rest of Day One's events.
After its narrow win in the team run, Again Faster had amassed a substantial lead, but ten points remained up for grabs in the final four events of Day one.
Event Eight was a type one call-out, meaning that Again Faster's James Hobart was able to select not just the WOD, but also who he wanted to compete against. Hobart called out Tommy Hackenbruck to go up against on this challenge:
Event Eight:
3 Rounds For Time:
20 Burpees
20 Chest to Bar Pull-ups
James Hobart Calls Out Tommy Hackenbruck
The standard for burpees was chest to ground at the bottom and hand clap with the feet off the ground at the top.
Hackenbruck finished 9th at the 2010 Games, as compared to Hobart's 18th place. On this particular event, though, Hobart had the advantages of smaller size and stronger butterfly chest to bar pullups.
Mad Respect for these 2 men. I know what it feels like to do this because I myself do this but now I added boxer situps before the burpee. It is RAW will, focus, determination, and Heart. This is not a workout for the weak minded. Most people would have stopped and quit after the 1st set of burpees and half way to the pullup portion. Even when the body is saying I cant do any more the mind says NO, YES You CAN. DONT QUIT, KEEP GOING, ALMOST THERE to the Finish!
james hobart just took me for my lvl 1 cert! super-great guy!
Mad respect for those burpees.
They were done "easily", but I can't stand watching their chest to bar "pull-ups".
I understand that you want to have the best time, but what is the purpose of including pull-ups (strength movement) in a WOD, when you use momentum and kipping.
You're not using as 20% of the strength you would be using if you were to do those chest to bar pull-ups strict form.
Plus, being fast while doing strict pull-ups (chest to bar or even chin ups) is possible and it is not that difficult to judge.
It just takes more time to built up strength.
I don't understand, why in Crossfit there are so many people saying "no excuses" when so many keep lying to themselves with all the pull-ups/chin-ups and muscle-ups.
They can be done strict form and fast.
LOL at Chan stuffing his face in the background.
I'm shocked Speal wasn't the guy for this one
Check out Matt Chan at 6:20 hahaha that's funny. Hey you gotta eat.
Why do u do the pull ups like u do them ? :) And nice work !
Is this consider a high intensity workout for them !?
froning is a great teamplayer
@kkHansi its called kipping you wouldnt be able to get dead hang pullups in a wod you would burn out
Camille
well try doing 10 rounds of 20 pullups and a bunch of weight lifting and possibly running if you can do strict that whole time more power to ya
