Like you Dawn I had never heard of him until this sad news and looked up for him. Such a tragic death at such a young age. He seemed a really nice young man and very talented. Thinking of his wife, children and family in such a difficult time.

Gareth was my favourite co host of the Frank Skinner show. Had such a gentle way about him. Terribly tragic news. My prayers go out to his family.

As somebody who has listened to every podcast Frank Skinner's done on Absolute, I know of Gareth and I was genuinely close to tears when I heard what happened.
He was such a gentle soul and, going by Joe Lycett's cryptic tweet, it seems he'd been a troubled soul too in recent years.
Joe said "I felt like he was getting to a happy and more honest place with who he was. He'd been very brave"
I think this suggests he was overcoming depression.
Looking at the state of his car and the back of the lorry, he must have crashed into it at a great speed.
Hopefully, the police can work out what happened and will take appropriate action because something like that doesn't happen if everyone involved is driving properly.
It probably isn't appropriate to bring this up but when thinking of Gareth's time on Absolute, I remembered him talking about how he nearly died after being hit by a lorry whilst on his bike when he was a kid.
I think he said his cracked cycle helmet was kept by the police and they used to show it around local schools as an example of how they can save your life.
Search - Frank Skinner Scratching Fanny to hear what laughs Frank, Em and Gareth used to have back in the day.

One of Gareth's friends has confirmed on Twitter that he had depression in the past.
I didn't say anything at the time, as I thought he was still happily married and I may have misunderstood Joe Lycett's hints but this friend also confirmed that Gareth had come out in recent years, so Joe was indeed talking about the obvious when saying "I felt like he was getting to a more honest place with who he was. He'd been very brave".
I'm delighted to see the trust fund for his sons on JustGiving is just about to hit the £18,000 mark. I won't be allowed to include the link here but search the following if you've got any spare money and would like to donate - JustGiving trust fund for the sons of comedian Gareth Richards

I recently heard Gareth on a podcast from 2019 and I know people will think this is harsh but having heard him say he kills any spiders he sees in his house, my sympathy for him has somewhat subsided.

Anyone else here via The Frank Skinner Show?

    • @Ernest_Thesiger
      @Ernest_Thesiger 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes!
I'm working my way through the old pods again and have just got to the time when Gareth made the extraordinary decision to quit his great job because, in his words, he wanted to concentrate on his stand-up career.
This happened soon after his appearance on Russell's show, where he seemed to go down well, which must have given him the impression he could make it big.
Sadly, this was as good as it got for him and he never did make it big.
He mentioned something about sorting mail for The Post Office and doing gigs where the only money you get is whatever somebody leaves for you in a bucket when he came back and stood in for Alun a couple of years ago.
Gareth last appeared on Frank's show about 18 months ago. I thought he may have popped up again after Alun got the sack but I've recently found out that he's left the management company Frank and Emily are with, so that won't be happening!

interesting how so many people below are raving about the fridge song - the weakest part of his act. great guy, clever jokes but the fridge song, though interesting, needs _a lot of work_ ... unlike a fridge... (sorry - couldn't help myself)

Good act. Would have been better without the passive aggressive attack on those who respect borders and cultures, although the link to babies was actually pretty smart.
