I don't know anything about give guitar classes but I can share some of my thoughts about my playing.. and for playing fast, I think is playing slow and go for sections when you are practicing, personally, I do not consider myself too fast, but what I have is a lot of force in the fingers so it's like If you have heavy fingers you can put "less" effort to hit the notes and still sound intense.. it's something natural in my case.. remember always warm-up before every time you play, that gonna make you faster and you don't get realized. PS: if you warm up try always do unplugged if you can reach a clean sound unplugged you can do everything, Regards buddy!
