I love this video! I am a huge fan of Soviet and Romanian Gymnastics in the 80's and early 90's. They truely mad it look like artistic gymnastics. I would love to talk to a former Russian athlete about training at the higher levels... I'm sure it wasn't always enjoyable, but they had to have an enormous amount of pride in what they were doing! Regardless of any medal they may have won, what they did can be considered priceless, in the same way as some art.
Truthfully, the Soviets & Romanian systems produced the best artistic gymnasts. Their methods were hard, often cruel & relentless... but they got the results.
These girls were so self-motivated and coached each other. Usually I see the American coaches coaching one-on-one, but these girls were truly a team watching each other and also could independently work to be the best.
Thanks! I put alot of thought into that lis. There were so many great Soviets but I'm confident in this list. LOL. I'm not a gymnast but I followed gymnastics HARDCORE from just before Seoul up until after Atlanta when the code of points got all crazy and it wasn't even fun to watch or follow anymore.
Yes...Stovbchataya was the 1992 Olympic alternate. Such a shame too, I loved her. I would have liked to have seen her replace Chusovitina actually. Best Soviet montage EVER!
I thought that Ludmilla Stovtachaya was the Olympic alternate. I clearly remember seeing her in the back ground in the 1992 footage I have at home. Perhaps they had two alternates
we love it so much that we give our heart and sould to it just hoping it will give us back a little something in return. whether that be an olympic medal or what have you.
Ok this is an impossible question! But Boguinskaya probably. She wasn't the best of all time but she was beautiful, consistent and she had longevity in a little girls sport. I love Domonique Dawes for the same reason. If Silivas had more personality I'd have said her. Though she's probably the greatest. If Omelianchik or Aurelia Dobre had stayed longer I'd have said one of them. Who's your fav?
Very close. Gorbachev called an emergency session of Parliament on Christmas night, 1991. The next day, the hammer and sickle were lowered and the S.U. disbanded.
Isn't Boguinskaya naturally very striking? Even without makeup you can see how good she looks. And doesn't the guy at 3.11 coach the Ukrainians now? I'm sure I've seen him at the Olympics.
@TheTravelBug89 I think the medal but also the title that comes along with that medal if it happens to be gold. More than that, I think it's the fame and the money making opportunities that may come of it.
IDK. A sure fire UNBEATABEL team would be Svetlana Boguinskaya Daniela Silivas Nadia Comaneci Elena Shushunova Shannon Miller Nellie Kim OR Ludmilla Tourisheva
I read somewhere (maybe even in early comments on this video) that it's about the end of the Soviet Union, which seems to make sense. I don't actually knw whether that's true though. Does anyone know?
Did the gymnasts use a tumbling track or a foam pit to train? Did the old communist Soviet gymnastics system spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on training facilites in the USSR so these girls would be good gymnasts? Just wondering.
lot of girls are doing gym just for fun, though we won´t win a medal, neither on regional copetition. But you´re right it´s not for fun anymore when they spend all time in gym for being the best :/
Oh ok. If we were keeping it stricly "Soviet" Svetlana Boguinskaya Ludmilla Tourisheva Elena Shushunova Nellie Kim Elena Mukhina Svetlana Khorkina Gutsu would be an alternate to all of them. LOL
This is my favorite montage. They did a beautiful job. Soviet gymnastics was perfection, I miss it!
Soviet gymnasts were some of the greatest ever. Such technique and style. It's a shame it was part of such a nasty political system, though.

God I'm just soooo happy there are people in the world that enjoy gymnastics as much as I do.

wow pretty cool to see all those gymnasts when they were so young.
What a great team with bogi, gutsu, lyssenko, and galiyeva!
I luv how u put some of their tricks with the rythym of the music!!!

This Montage was very inspirational!!! I luv how you showed the girls at the olympics, and doing the same routine in training.
Great soviet training footage. They were an incredible team!
Lyssenko is the best of all time, IMO. She had a lot of bad luck when she competed in AA and EF, but always kept it together for her team.
All of them are really excellent but l can't help thinking in Elena Muhkina. She was the best!
Tatiana Gutsu, Tatina Lsenko, Svetlana Boginskaia, Rosa Galyeva, Chusovitina. Barcelona 1992. C.E.I (URSS) Olympic Champion. Great video!
Love this song--great video. The Soviet Team was AWESOME!!!
I thought that Ludmilla Stovtachaya was the Olympic alternate. I clearly remember seeing her in the back ground in the 1992 footage I have at home. Perhaps they had two alternates
but i must admit the Soviets were pretty damn good in their day.
If the soviet team was still around today NO one would be able to catch them
maybe my fav montage
The team competed under the flag of the "Unified Team" for the '92 Olympics.
My favorite gymnasts: Nadia, Davydova, Shaposhnikova, Omelianchik, Lysenko and Groshkova
The BEST Coaches PUSH their gymnasts.
we love it so much that we give our heart and sould to it just hoping it will give us back a little something in return. whether that be an olympic medal or what have you.
the emotional, physical and mental abuse they went through and still do for a piece of medal
@lanpingpug Yes. His name is Oleg Ostapenko and he used to be the head coach of the Ukrainian team.
RIP Oleg

Don't be fooled. They have one of the fastest growning economies in the World now. They'll be back sooner than we hope.
very nice!
Of the girls from the former Soviet states, who would u place on a champion team today?
The first gym is Dynamo
i liked the song
god, tatiana lynseko is relly good

The only thing that killed the Soviet Gymnastics 🤸 program was the breakup of the Soviet Union. They were that good.
Now imagine a really fat guy doing all that.Great video by the way.
wow!!!
i liked
