My mower has been out of commission for 2 weeks, stopped running after taking a break halfway through the mow. It was used, so I started pulling everything apart. Came across your video today, discovered that a spring under the handle was not engaged, so the kill switch was not connecting properly. Put it back on, no tools required, fired right up! Thanks for saving me about 3 hours of work (although I am still gong to clean the carb because it is an old used mower)!
No problem!! Glad it helped you out!
You probably saved me $100 today!!!!!!!!!!! My similar Toro would not start and would not fire. I changed the 4-5 year old spark plug, no resolution. . I tried starting fluid..........would not even fire on ether. That told me it most probably was electrical. I called my local Toro dealer and they said it would be 3 weeks before they could even look at it and past experience told me it would not be a reasonable charge, even if it was something very simple. My kill switch frame was not bent out like yours. I just sprayed a couple of shots of carb cleaner in the general area down by the engine near the kill switch and...................IT IMMEDIATELY STARTED ON THE FISRT PULL!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!
No problem that’s why I made the video!
I have the same set up. I replaced the carb, plug, filter and fuel. I have fire and I smell fuel in the chamber, have compression and still no start! So, I started digging around the net and came across your video. Nice catch! No one else has even mentioned this! Great video!
Thanks glad it helped!
same here, just bought a coil
Kill switch circuit is 90% of Toro no spark issues and 70% in terms of mowers in general. Most people will clamp the bar to the handle while troubleshooting but it's much better to try clamping at the switch assembly itself. Saves a ton of diagnostic time and prevents needless parts purchases. Lawn mower coils rarely go bad.
Thanks for the tips!
Great video. Fixed my issue by spraying brake clean in the kill switch area. Thanks for the help.
I couldn't get mine to work and looked at this video...a stuck kill switch was the problem and was easily fixed. Thanks for posting this!
I've got this mower and a no spark issue too. Time to figure out the solution is and I think this is very helpful. Thank you.
Awesome! Glad it helped.
Thanks! Saved my Day! I had the same issues and just before tearing the whole thing down I watched your video. The Kill Switch was apparently gunked up. I sprayed some carb cleaner all over it and jiggled it around and SHAZAM! It starts like a champ. Thanks again.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Just bought this mower for 100 bucks off craigslist. First time using it it keeps dying. Was just about to tackle fuel delivery. Watched your video, went outside fixed it in under 3 minutes ...10 seconds to bend the part back in, 2 minutes to run it for test.. I love you tube! Thank you!
Thank you very much for making this video! Saved me a lot of aggravation and I was able to diagnose (with your video) and repair.
Thank you! Worked like a charm. Now I can return the $400 mower I bought just last night.
Awesome so glad it was a simple fix
I saw the picture of the coil and the exact mower, and thought you were going to show how to replace it... great video, but need to learn how to install the coil. My coil cord was cut with a wire cutter, on purpose, so I couldn’t use the mower. I really need to see how to do this. Thank you.
Sorry I don’t have a video on that!
U did a great job..the head bolts torque at 200 inch pds..Retired Larry.....
👍👍
You are a genius! I had the bent bracket too & a stretched cable. Some adjustment & it starts & runs. I was about to buy parts -- that would not have fixed it in the end. Thanks.
No problem!
Thanks for the video Especially the kill switch.
Thanks man! I think I have the same problem with mine. I engaged the switch by hand and it started. But it shut off mid mow. I hope this fixes it
Awesome hope that was the issue!
Good catch .. some are more difficult to find than others. I have a tendency to start looking at the worst. As Time goes by you start and stick with fundamentals. New subscriber. Good diagnosis.😊
Thanks, the kill switch was my solution as well! Fresh gas cleaned/new spark plug and oil level was low which I added. Our mower is running great!
Johnny PcGamer nice! Easy fix!
Good detective work. I have similar problem. Cold, the mower runs fine. Hot, it will not start. Thought perhaps a thermal problem was causing a problem. I bent the kill switch bracket a bit, and it started right up. Thought the problem was solved, but next hot start try failed. Later cold start worked. Could the insides of the kill switch have some small tolerance heat sensitivity? Is the kill switch module by the bracket an item that can be bought and replaced?
uTubeRazzoo2 it’s possible their could be something like that going on
Great info. Worked perfect for me. It was bent and a quick tweak with some pliers and away I went. Thanks
Matt Jones awesome!!
Good informative video! Mine starts but immediately dies. So I've already cleaned the gas tank, lines, carb, etc. But I'm going to clean the choke butterfly and the kill switch. The cables, wires, and springs all look brand new. The only dirty area is around the kill switch. Thanks for an excellent, short, and to.the point video!!!
Thank you!
Thank You! I wish I had read this first.
Good video and good info!
Couple days ago I bought one just like yours, come with old oil not fuel.
I replaced the carburetor, new spark plug, new ignition coil, new recoil started.
Still won’t start.
What you think it is?
Thank you! 😎👍
Very helpful. Thanks. 😎
That coil is still good they hardly go bad
Thanks for the tip!
GREAT CLOSE-UPS
thanks!
I have a 6.5 on a chipper shredder. It ran great the season before and then it had no spark at the beginning of the next season. I replaced the coil and checked continuity through the kill switch. No matter what I do nothing changes.
Check the stator
Into The Dirtshop thanks! I’m going to get back into today.
thank you it work I had the same problem your video save me a lot of money thank you
I have the exact same one. Mine will start after the 3X pump but will cut off on its own quickly. What do you think it is? I changed the spark plug, new filter, checked the oil, used 93' gas.
I think it could be this safety cable issue being bent. If not I’d start with the carb
Hi I have a Toro with electric start. I clean the carb everything but still not working. I think is something have to do with the kill switch, I wiggle it sometimes it start but sometimes it doesn’t. I know it is the problem but do you have any pointers. Thanks in advance
Great Video on the Kill Switch for the Toro!!! I've been working on one and I could tell yours was bent right away. But can you show me where the Choke is??? If I have to take the carb apart that's no no problem but In order to get the thing to start I had a friend hold the governor back and tried yanking the cord about 5 or 6 time and it started and kept running until I let-off on the kill-switch. I also did something weird just prior....I had the air filter off and tried pushing the primer several times while holding my finger over the red tube that's connected to it. A few times I pushed it with the tube open...And then I plugged the tube a few times while releasing the primer button. Which method helped?....I don't know. Any ideas???
Thank you!
No problem!
I have a toro recycler, 6.5hp GTS. I believe it is a techumsa engine, but no label anywhere to confirm. But I cannot get it to start no matter how many pulls I try. I have replaced the entire carburetor assembly (which includes the fuel jet bolt and new bowl), new spark plug, new air filter, and using fresh gas. I have used a spark plug tester to make sure I have spark, and I do have spark. I have ordered a new ignition coil, but not sure if that’s gonna be the fix since I am getting spark. Any thoughts on what I can do next?
Definitely check the compression and then do a leak down test to see if your valves are bent or stuck
@@IntoTheDirtshop thank you. Thats probably way above my knowledge, unless you have a video you have posted??
@@jeffr6357 sorry I don’t but there are tons of other videos about it on TH-cam for sure
I have seen this problem before your carb most likely needed cleaning regardless. Ok when owners fold the handle down without undoing its cables ties or plastic cable holding the causes the cable to pull against that bracket which bends it like yours was. It's not a tree branch - well it could be but the chances of that are very slim. Just bend the bracket back and you may have to adjust the drive cable also depending if it was pulled also. I have seen this problem on my own toro mowers lol and have yet to learn the proper way to fold the handle - it's called me being stupid more then once lol.
thank you!!!! this was the fix for mine!
Expensive lesson''
Interesting. Thanks
No problem!
I have same lawn mower. If I prime the engine it will start but only run until the gas from priming is gone. Any idea what my issue might be?
Maybe the float is stuck?
@@IntoTheDirtshop The carburetor was plugged up limited the gas flow. At least once I cleaned it up it ran fine.
Can’t wait to try this. Well made vid.
Thanks!
Good video - thanks
No problem glad it helped!
it work thaks a lot
Kill switch huh??? Now never thought of that. Somehow cable came out of it's guide. Put back where it belongs. Voila!!
👍👍👍👍
Mi motor only have the green and black hanging where do I connect them? Does it need a battery??
no it does not need a battery
I have a 2007 year snapper with a 6.5 Brigg's and Stratton that won't start the auto choke don't work none these videos show how it works it doesn't have a thermostat under the muffler.
sorry I did not look into that type of issue in this video, only the start cable
Yeah, you didn't need a new coil.
there was no switch just cable
So you spender the money for nothing.I don't waste my time.Just trash it.
this one was an easy fix!
int work thank you
