    Great tour and history there...so many great companies gone for ever..
    Not been to Portsmouth for a long time..
    In fact the last time was when I went on my honeymoon to France.

      Cheers for the comment mate, had a few people say that about traveling to France. There is a good amount of stuff to do in and around the city and also lots of history with the naval history and historic dockyard. Did you see my comment on sending me an email on Facebook bud? (second name is Reading). I have a project to run by you but dont know how to contact you.

    What a better way than to drive around Portsmouth and remember all the good ol' memories of what they used to have.
    The rise of online ordering really has effected the retail industry, hence why our childhood favourites are no longer with us physically.

    As I lived in Portsmouth (Southsea, North End, Cosham) from 2005 to 2020, I watched this with some nostalgia as well!
    I saw the Cosham building where my final flat was; I stayed there for just over 6 months, and had the radio on all the time in order not to hear the level crossing alarm :)
    Where the pick-up truck turns at 14:00, there's a Post Office shop where there used to be a small area where somebody was selling some old video games, about 5 years ago, that was before I started buying 8-16-bit games again, but the owner had some Mega Drive stuff.
    Near Ross Records, there was a shop named Beaver Tool Hire, with an infamous slogan.
    That story about the Tricorn Centre and the old Cascades was fascinating! Thanks for the pictures too.
    It's crazy to see how much stuff changed even in those last three years, shops (including that Debenhams) closed down; they also removed the tanks, which I couldn't help climbing on the first time I saw them, and the Pyramids pool has eventually been replaced!
    So without Victoria Pool & the Pyramids, the only one remaining is in Hilsea up north?
    Thank you for that trip down memory lane, complete with the overcast sky!

      Thanks for the comment mate, It was great to go around these old stomping grounds and take a trip down memory lane. Cosham from my point of view is a great place to have grown up with the great transport links, parks to play football, and cinema/top-named shops on your doorstep. I loved growing up there so was great to get back there and grab some video. I think I got some stuff from that guy on eBay at 14:00 lol, a small world! Ahh yes, Beaver Tool hire has come up a few times in the comments, they had some very funny adverts around the city, used to be one around the Fratton station area aswell. It's crazy mate in regards to how much things have changed it really is, a little depressing in all honesty. There is still a pool at the Mountbatten Centre and also at the local Roko club. Definitely some more around the place aswell as I'm not sure if the university also offers pool use to the public as that campus has expanded massively! Thanks for watching mate, where about in the UK are you now mate?

      @jbmaru 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@PompeyGamesRoom Thanks for your reply, yes the Mountbatten Centre, I had forgotten the name! I did use Roko's pool as well, it's smaller but quite classy with its purple (or blue?) light :)
      I came from France and went back after nearly 15 years. I look back at that time quite fondly, as we often do with the past. I would definitely visit again someday.

    Really interesting video. As a kid I lived in Portchester and my first job after leaving school was working in a furniture shop at the top of Charlotte Street where the Galaxy phone shop now stands. That was in 1959 and well before the Tricorn Centre was built. In those days there was a street market all the way down Charlotte Street on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and it was a bustling thriving area. I moved away from the Portsmouth area many years ago so I don't know if the market still operates in the same manner.

If you are not in the area mate I post my travel dashcam footage now days to my other channel "Soogle Street View" on here. You might get a kick out of that as there are journeys in and out of Portsmouth seeing the surrounding areas. I do believe that a market is still held down commercial road, not sure of the day though. Thanks again for the comment mate.

    Also sad to see Allders in such a poor state ☹️. It looks like the whole high street is going the same way, as people shop online. Seafront looking more healthy. We should take the kids down and make a day of it, before it is too cold.

    Hiya matey, another Portsmouth guy here!
    Brilliant video & drive around, You drove by the end of my road in Cosham, lived there since 1984 but grew up in Milton.
    The city centre is really a bit dead now, so many empty shops, not really much in the Cascades any more, they should never have got rid of the food court, it was never the same once that went & i doubt the car park ever gets full enough anymore to warrant having made those extra spaces!
    All those closed down shops along by Debenhams are due to be redeveloped for student flats, including the former store building too.
    I remember when it was Allders & the brilliant Christmas window displays they used to have every year.
    I used to go to Ross Records back in the late 1980s to sell some of my CDs & vinyl records!

      Great to hear from you bud, I actually watched your "News Centre" video around 5 months back I seem to recall lol Any plans to upload any new videos?? Already subbed to you aswell so I can keep an eye on your content. You are right mate, the city center is dead nowadays, such a shame as there were so many great stores down there, was such a great town center with something for everyone. I see the plans for Debenhams with the skyscraper plans, ridiculous plans they really are lol! I built the Lego Harry Potter sets in the Allders window in 2001, was the best few days I had working there as I letrelly built Lego for most of the week lol. Thanks for the comment mate, hope to see some uploads from you soon.

      @NOWThatsRichy 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PompeyGamesRoom They have started demolition on the old News Centre, a few weeks ago.
      There was talk of the iconic frontage being retained, I do hope that is the case, I think it was quite a unique structure. although some people loved it, others hated it, (a bit like the Tricorn!)
      Back when the News Centre was in full operation, it was all floodlit at night & looked quite impressive as you drove by.
      As for the City centre, I know times have changed, but some of the tower blocks are completely out of proportion to the existing buildings, I think the council are trying to make it look like New York!!

    Good to see some follow retrogaming content from Pompey, I used to buy my PC Engine games from South Coast Consoles at the front of the Tricorn, would've been just on the corner where that road to the back of Argos is. Later on in the early 2000's there was an import games shop on that roundabout that goes up to the old Sainsburys, did NTSC PS1, Dreamcast, Neo Geo Pocket gear. In the early 90's ( going way back :D ) there one called genesis games in charlotte street superstore, mainly computer games but some import Megadrive bits, and a jamma arcade game running fantastic night dreams cotton!
