    How would you put on the corner where the top is exposed to the elements like on a chimney

    • @Trevkongable

      You can make a cap out of aluminum coil stock that covers the open parts of the corner

      You can replace the corner with a spliced piece of a new corner. You will need a part of a new corner , take off the siding on both sides up to the part your replacing and install the new corner, and re-install the siding. A siding removal tool will be very handy to help.

    Thanks for the tips! Thanks for the straight forward videos that are easy to follow. Do you have a video that shows how to install vinyl corner when the siding level isn't the same on both sides? Situation: On the back of the house the siding is near ground level, when it transitions around the corner, the concrete foundation jumps up 3 feet due to ground slope, so the siding it 2 feet difference in the starting strip elevation....how is the corner trimmed/installed to look normal?

      I’ve used J - Channel on the side that needs siding until it reached the height of other side that needs siding. If you have a picture of the wall and corner that you are talking about I’d like to see exactly what it looks like. If you could email me a picture, I could give you a more comprehensive answer. My email is mrkongable@gmail.com. Thanks so much for the view and kind words.

    Thank you for this video. May I ask you if you would recommend using the foam inserts into the corner siding post? Can be used with outside corner pieces when installing TimberCrest I/S insulated siding These are available at Home Depot. For example ABTCO 3/4 inch Outside Corner Foam Insert (PC).

    What do you do if the corner of the house isn't plumb? Put a level on the corner of my house and it's off almost 1.5 inches top to bottom. That's a two story house

    • @Trevkongable
      @Trevkongable  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don’t have any siding on it, you could shim it from top to bottom with starting out with a 2x4 and going down to a 1/4 piece of plywood , but if it doesn’t effect the structure, I’m not sure I would do much to fix it. Siding will cover a multitude of framing mistakes

    • @cmiller8006
      @cmiller8006 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @mr.kongable so I put it on square to the house so there was any smashing or twisting. Then I had someone tell me that was wrong. I feel I like that better then possible causing it to twist or smash. Thanks for the reply. I feelclike you don't really see the 1.5 inches once it's on the house.

    Why did you not close up the bottom of the corner post? Are there a good reasons or situation where you would and would not do that?

    • @Trevkongable
      @Trevkongable  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So any moisture that gets in from above can get out

    • @bcoldwell1
      @bcoldwell1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have also been looking for guidance on this. I'm using Tamlyn corners and flashing, and LP smartside. I know any water needs to get out, but I don't want insects nesting inside.
      Also, why start corners a full inch below starter? I think a half inch max would suffice, and look better, IMO

  • @pgreenx

    I came here to replace a bent cornerpiece and now realize I have to remove all the siding just to get the corner out. Not going to do that. Too much trouble for me

    • @Trevkongable
      @Trevkongable  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve patched in part of the corner before and only taken off one piece from each of the two sides that the corner is attached to.
      Just cut the corner so the patch piece goes up inside the above piece and covers over the below piece.
      If you have a siding removal tool, it’s not that bad.
      I have a video on how to use a siding removal tool that may help.

    Recommendation please! How do you close the siding corners from the bottom, so insects and mice can’t get in

    • @Trevkongable
      @Trevkongable  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You could do a few different things. You could spray it with insulating foam that doesn't expand much,( for doors and windows). You could pack it with Steel Wool so mice can't get through it. You could make small wood plugs that go in the bottom of the corner, or use the PVC "wood-like" trim boards to put a "cap" on the bottom of the corner. Hope it helps.

    OMG. I can't believe I just special-ordered a corner piece to replace one that my lawn guys hacked up. As someone else here mentioned, I need to remove all the siding to replace it? It'll look stupid if it's in 2 pieces. It's right by the front door, too. I'm a woman with zero siding experience.
    I, also, have a horizontal piece on the bottom that I need to replace. Lawn guys shredded that, as well. I hope I don't have to remove all of that, too?

    • @Joe_H_
      @Joe_H_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to find where your 1/2 in sits on all 4 corners measure down from the bottom of the 1/2 in to top of the concrete foundation. Say you got 90, 90 1/8, 90, 90 3/8. Start at 90 3/8. Your corners only need to be 1/4 below the siding.

    How to properlt replace the corner when damaged?...not the repair by cutting piece to cover front. Can the siding pieces be lifted just enough to remove and replace corner(if so, a video to show how maybe🙂), or do all adjoining siding on both sides have to be removed?
