    Great idea. See if this helps the girls to draw out the frames faster. Thanks for sharing Dave 😀

    Goodwill would be a cheap place to look for the electric skillet. I use a old slow cooker but like your skillet idea. Thanks

      I use an extra small slow cooker, purchased at Goodwill, it's perfect for my small scale jobs. Thanks David for the great video. By the way, does it matter how clean the wax is? I can't seem to get all the sediment out of the wax.

    David - I just wanted to say thanks for making the video and doing the testing on this. I have started using this method myself to get my Half Deep Mating NUC frames built out quickly. It really does seem to put the bees in high gear. I use a crock pot myself to melt the wax and it keeps it warm longer.

      Melt beeswax in double boiler or slow cooker. Do not expose beeswax to direct heat as it is very
      flammable. The melting point of beeswax is 144ºF, so this process can take a little while depending on
      the quantity of beeswax you are melting. Do not leave beeswax unattended while melting

    A 3 or 4 inch foam roller works better than a brush

    Love the frying pan idea ! I am returning to beekeeping after 55 years away. Beekeeping was my Jr n Sr high school Ag project... I am looking for ways to get the bees to accept the plastic... Thankz !

    I tried a brush and wax was cooling on it in between brushes on each section of the frame. So the brush was getting stiff. Perhaps I didn't have the wax hot enough? How do you store the brush in between uses and when its time to use it again and its stiff from the cooled wax what do you do before using it again? Thanks for any further info you can provide on this.

    Given the concern about AFB how do you know your purchasing from a good source that won't give cause for that concern?

    I don't feel so bad now knowing an expert does it the same way I do, except I use a quart size (sauce) crock pot.

    Lol, my bees will completely disagree about what you said about swarms take longer than package bees or nucs. My bee swars that I caught this year have been the best workers I ever seen. I caught a swarm on April 29,2018 they drew out a deep box and super in a month. Then on June 12 2018, they produced another swarm. Which we watch leave the box and flew up into a tree 50 feet into the air. My bees are in north Mississippi, so maybe location has something to do with it.

    Would this work down in the brood chamber.on a ten frame. Before installing nuc.

    Could you estimate how much bees wax it takes to put a good coating on 10 medium frames?

    • @maryanneferguson8039
      @maryanneferguson8039 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1 lb per 10 deep frames or;
      o 1 lb per 15 medium frames

    Could I ask approximately what temperature the wax is when you are using the brush to paint the wax on?

    Nice idea indeed, you are using plastic fondation, will it work on wax fondation as well do you think?

    • @beek
      @beek  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Toxicrafa If you were very gentle and allowed the wax to cool alot first. Probably not necessary though.

    Hi could you add essential oils to the melted wax rather than adding them to feeders. I have heard that essential oils could be very beneficial in controlling mites. Has anyone tried this please.
