The rage was palpable in comment sections across the internet when Samsung announced the Galaxy S5 LTE-A a mere two months after releasing the "stock" Galaxy S5. Despite the fact that the company had pulled a similar move with 2013's Galaxy S 4, folks were incensed: how dare the company release a Quad-HD, Snapdragon 805-powered upgrade so soon, effectively rendering its flagship archaic eight weeks after release?
The question we sought to answer with this comparison, then, was: how much of that anger is justified? And if you bought a Galaxy S5 between April and now, how tempted should you be by the so-called "Galaxy S5 Prime"?

Glad to see the 805 performs well with 2K. Didn't hear any mention of the brightness being turned down by the system so it doesn't overheat.
Haven't run into that behavior as of yet. Certainly nothing like the G3 in that respect. ^M
That's one of the problems that a lot of viewers have found in the LG g3 which has the 801 instead of the 805 so in reality if you do want the 2k display then it might be smarter to just wait for your flight chips to have the 805 runs better with that display
Would have been great if LG waited for the tech to catch up a little bit. Slight compromise but it is what it is. At least that battery holds.
LTE-A is coming out soon yet Sprint and T-Moblie have yet to bring regular 4G LTE to a majority of cities. It's absolutely sickening that they'll start selling these phones without the data plans to back them up.
Probably the fact that Amoled pixels turn on only when they are needed. That said, I dislike Samsung devices after a horrible experience with my S4 but the screen on the S5 is something else. This prime version display should look amazing in hand.
The 805 is noticeably faster and smoother. Samsung couldn't wait 2 months to give people 805 + 3GB + QHD screen.

2 Months later:
- Shit, the G3 really is moving the game forward, we need to remedy this 2k thing, the fanboys will justify the new phone and never admit we fucked up, just release the quad HD S5, lets not wait for the next gem...
Sorry Michael i find it is a big deal to release the same phone but with the resolution we expected ever since first rumours of the Original S5. Samsung and HTC drop the ball on not give us a 2k display since day one of those devices...or wait 2 months to give us the snapdragon 805 with 2k.
It's the same phone only with higher resolution, even the 805 chip dont feel more powerfull (to show how the same it is).

It's not a question of need or not 2k, its a question of release a phone and then try a "hot fix" to keep it up to what the others are doing.
Either they should stick to theyr choice or chooce better before release a flagship.
I just saw a LG G3 yesterday, and after that I start to see pixels on my S5 up close. I can live without the 2k, but it doesn't feel right.
2k is just a gimmick to get more money out of your wallet, drain your battery quicker and slow down the phone... At normal using distance you can't see a difference between 2k and 1080p...
It's just to satisfy specs whores where more is always better. Well, a bit like the stupid megapixel race in cameras

Jonny Oliveira you may think it's not noticeable, but if you think the iPhone's display is high resolution, then you haven't seen a descent phone. Instead of being mediocre, I'm in favor of progress, and I want that one day, you can be able to see perfectly every detail in a high resolution picture.
5:23 T-Mobile didn't disable download booster. Still was while I used kitkat unrooted.
Just curious about the reputation of 28Mobile? How much do they charge consumers for shipping? Is their warranty equivalent to the manufacturer's? Is there pricing superior/inferior?

Great comparison video, it brings things into perspective but it would still tic me off because the bump from the S4 to the S5 was minimal anyway in my opinion but really enjoyed the video.
Nice video but I feel that the galaxy s5 LTEA is a little more future proof so if I was going to go for s5 I would go for that LTE A cuz I like future proofing

I think since the QHD screen is kind of useless in this case, it would've been really interesting what the newer processor would with the full HD screen. I think the performance jump would be significant.

I'm fairly sure the second battery is required by law in Korea, and not actually a feature that pertains to the phone.
well, i think you sold the decision part a little short. first, in my opinion, the three gb's of ram is worth getting this phone all on it's own.and what about having 32gb of space for uour rom. that is also worth it all by itself. but then to get a quad hd display, which will just get better and better as software is written for it. the same goes for the snapdragon 805 and adreno 420. they may only give a small boost now, but as apps and other software is written to take advantage of it, those features are going to be more and more important. so why do you down play the great advances of this phone? having it now just means i don't have to worry about changing later. i sent my s5 back, and am trying to order the prime. but 28mobile isn't so easy to deal with. still it's worth the upgrade to have the extra space and memory. also, the new snapdragon 805 allows more than twice the bandwidth for memory, which will definitely come in handy as more apps are written with higher demands. so you are wrong, it is much, much, much better. if you can't notice that this is a big upgrade, then you don't know as much about these devices as you think.

I didn't get the exclusive pack which has extra battery. You can only get it when it releases on the first few days. But I redeemed my wireless charger that comes with the S charger case. ☺

As far as the Android 4.4.3 update for the Samsung Galaxy S5 Samsung was allowed to add up to 22 toggle icons in the settings menu or quick settings. I have 19 toggles on my S5 am I supposed to have 22 toggle icons and if so how do you add them to the settings menu, and what are the list of toggle icons that are listed in the galaxy s5 settings.

The LTE-A is the only reason why i think this unit was built by Samsung. And since they love their country of origin, they threw in some additional numbers into it.

what a lot of people couldn´t understand is that this isn´t for the whole world as the s5 is, this is for asia markets(tbh more like korea and japan), so the normal s5 is still the top around the world.

I told the masses to wait...two months ago. As Samsung said they would. In fact its the fault of the consumer...we android enthusiastic sorts should know. If a new tech comes out the rest have to compensate. Samsung will always compete. This is old. It sucks but I knew this. So should most...I was told that I was crazy. But again I was right and everyone is mad. But I'm not an I told you so guy. But yes ...I told you so. Lol. Sorry but I understand the frustration. Want a cure? S4 LTE-A was the very first device that used the Snapdragon 800, and nobody knew about it in the US. Why is the S5 LTE-A getting much attention now?
probably because the S5 does everything you know like IP67, bigger screen etc.. its got more features than S4 and its worth upgrading from S4 to S5

TH-cam mobile app doesn't even support full 1080p, so QHD on a phone is still kind of pointless at this moment. My S4 screen still looks amazing and sharp.

Wow. Watching them side by side it was noticeably a better (and much faster) experience on the "prime" version... And the benchmarks mean nothing to me. I bet in game performance especially for newer games is better on the prime version... And the 2k display is totally future proof. If I had an s5 I'd totally be trading it in for that guy. The camera being even quicker?! Yes! And you don't have to worry about carrier bloatware or long update waits... Awesomesauce.

After being used to HTC sense 6.0, watching both s5 perform seems really laggy n slow.
I feel spending the $200 extra for the prime is not worth it. I would rather buy a G3 if you want a 2K display and the specs are not worth it for the price. Samsung should have released this device in the first place even if the G3 had not been released. They would have been ahead of the game but Samsung just wanted to wait until next year to release another phone with upgraded specs. Check out my TH-cam channel as well, thanks.

apparently they could not get enough stock of the 805 so went with the 801 for the G3 release...i guess that is what happened to the S5, although samsung should have notified at the event there were going to be 2 models.
and also i can rememeber an article on pocket now which went on to tell they asked if there was going to be any enhenced version like the J or metal S5 and samsung denied it point blank.....not sure if they know what the other hand is doing lol.

I am getting an extra battery for my S5 in Taiwan as well. I guess the carriers in the US really tends to cut the accessories to maximize profit.

People would be dumb to buy this S5 "prime" with the Note 4 around the corner.That's the real flagship line by Samsung anyway. The regular S series sucks.
I guarantee you this Note 4 will have the EXACT same specs, only a bigger screen and pricetag.
***** I can see it having the same CPU, RAM, and resolution, (all of which is a good thing) but the price tag should be the same as importing this korean "prime" version. Also the Note series usually has a better design and a superior camera. And let's of course not forget the reason why it's called a Note: the s-pen.

I talked to a Samsung Ambassador and he said it's only a matter of release date. The S and Note lines get released in different quarters of the year and this provide the more specsful Note line.

I didn't tried s5 in deep but in terms of performance and software optimization should not be like you said. Anyway I found s5 lil bit smoother than note 3 thanks to the new touchwiz (snap800 and snap801 differences are not noteworthy, imho)
Enrico Maria Dal Compare well I used my dad's note 3 and my friend's s5. Both unrooted. I find the note 3 much more smoother switching between apps etc. Tat extra ram is rly important in this I guess. The prime didn't rly fix it though as I could see some lag when he was using the s5 prime which wouldn't have happened in my dad's note 3. Tats just my experience.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get that network booster to work on other Android devices?

I feel like this comparison was pretty pointless considering how much alike the two devices are. But I guess there are people who just want the best but aren't interested in the specs, or how exactly the phone works-aka the most common type of buyer. So maybe it was a necessary comparison.

the battery on my s5 is horrible, it only lasts for three hours even while I kill apps that are not in use with limited brightness. any tips?
Mine last for about a day or so. Did you overcharge it? Don't let your device overheat as it can affect your battery.
Something is wrong with your phone or battery. Mine lasts over 24 hours with at least 4 hours screen on time. With only about 12 hours I can get almost 6 hours screen on time. Don't use app killers unless it's the Samsung one if you absolutely need too.

Kill apps like with a task killer? Don't do this, it will only drain you battery more because apps will open again and again. Android does it right itself.

The phone reviewed in this video (Prime) is not the same as you commented the S5 LTE-A G901F is called the Galaxy s5 plus. This device is pretty much the normal s5 with a Snapdragon 805 for 4G+ connection in europe. It does *NOT* have a 1440P display or 3gb ram. Just a 1080P and 2Gigs of ram
