I'm 6'5 280 lb and played football from the age of seven through college. And I was never off the field. That means I never played the bench, Even my sophomore year at Thornton which had about 7,000 students majority black.
My mother was a teacher even when my dad was just starting college after returning as a decorated Marine and Korean war veteran. I was born on a Christmas morning in 1955. And from the minute they cut my cord and my mom went back to school after that Christmas break, I sat in the front row center seat of a fourth grade classroom. That means I could read and write before I started kindergarten.
You know what happens to any kid who can read and write on the first day of kindergarten?
All the little boys get together to meet up with you after that first day to kick your ass while they are chanting smarty pants. So as it turns out, people don't hate each other just based on the color of their skin. I couldn't wait to be an adult and deal only with rational... It didn't take long to figure out that people don't outgrow their biases even toward just intelligent people.
So my mom's dad had joined the Navy at the age of 14 and it was trainer for the light and heavyweight boxing champions of the Navy. My honor platoon decorated Marine father and my mom's dad agreed it was time for me to learn to defend myself.
I like to make one comment about my white privilege.
On 12 young black men decided to jump me based on the color of my skin my sophomore year, It was my privilege to demonstrate what a bad idea it is to jump on somebody who's been actually trained to fight, has fought competitively and is undefeated.
That's about the extent of my white privilege.
I took the initiative after that sophomore year to get a full-time job and put myself through private high school because the public school system is shit.
And I couldn't tell you if the people I helped were black, white, purple, green or orange. I never asked.
And I'm quite confident that put a smile on the face of our brother MLK Jr.

I was turned down by the Oklahoma State Election Board just now about writing in Dr Cornell West for President on our ballot, can some Oklahomans that are organized or trying to please contact me. Time is really short and I want to go to court for the right to vote for this man, and Oklahoma State is forbidding that vote and depriving a Native Americans living on Native land to vote for their choice.
