    I’ve been using QGIS for about 5 years to make orienteering maps. There are some limitations (with my skill and with the soft), but in general, I find it nice to have a one-stop tool for making the base maps. I use Purple Pen software for the course design. BTW, great job yet again. I’m always learning from you.

    Hi, Thanks for your content, all of them are great videos. Just one question, could you help me to get base ground colours to my orienteering map?. I use OpenOrienteeringMapper and QGIS. Thanks in advance.

    Very cool. Maybe i have to do some orienteering again...

    Purple Pen is also open-source and is much more sophisticated for course setting. No mapping there though

    any chance to export generated things into vector layer ?

    • @KlasKarlsson
      @KlasKarlsson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The expression can be used in the Geometry by Expression Tool.

      @@KlasKarlsson can u guide me, how to ?
      I have layer, where I generated lines by code " make_line ( make_point( "Xorigin" , "Yorigin" ), make_point( "Xdestination" , "Ydestination" ))" in geometry generator.
      So I need this lines(or points) as another vector layer, how I can do it ?

      I didn't find "expression Tool" by google, only panel with selecting by expression

    • @KlasKarlsson
      @KlasKarlsson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Bob-qs3sf ok, it's the "geometry by expression" tool built into QGIS. You find it among the processing tools, or search with ctrl+k.

      There's a link in the show notes.

      @@konskots7569 you save it as a qml file and use it as a standard style file in QGIS. docs.qgis.org/3.16/en/docs/user_manual/appendices/qgis_file_formats.html#qml-the-qgis-style-file-format

    The start triangle look small. I guess QGIS define size as the diameter of the circle the symbol is inside, while the standard define the side of the triangle. My instinct say divide the size by cosine 30 degree. Good video anyway!

    • @KlasKarlsson
      @KlasKarlsson  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The side (or base) of the triangle is supposed to be 6 mm in print, and the controls are supposed to be 5 mm, at the scale 1:15'000. The shape of the triangle may make it look smaller, but as long as I created the symbols following this standard, they should be the correct size. You could always look at the style file in the description.

    • @WHORTH-TheUglyDucklingOfFORTH
      @WHORTH-TheUglyDucklingOfFORTH 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The style for the start point says scale_method diameter... Don't know QGIS but I still suspect the size don't set the side of the triangle but rather the diameter of the circle touching all the corners of the triangle.

      I am doing my thesis at the moment and I would like if it is easy for you to send us a link with th symbolset. Congratulations on your work.

      @@konskots7569 Don't know about ArcMap. You probably could contact your Esri sales office and check for avalability. They May also have something on their "GEO-net" if you have access to that.
