I remember going to my cousins house back in the early 90s and opening her bedroom door only to find all of the neighbor kids crowded around the TV and bed playing Super Mario Bros 3. It was the first time I ever heard about or seen the game. Prior to that I had only know about SMB1 and 2. To me the game looked so sophisticated and beyond cool. Once it was my turn to have a go at the game, I remember sucking so bad at it. I died quickly and someone else would play next. Today I can beat it. :-)

Baseball Stars was one of my favorite NES games, I loved the RPG element of powering up your players as you earned more money from playing games. Solstice is a sentimental game for me, it was one of the few my dad played back in the day. Dungeon Magic, and Gunsmoke are my two favorite.

I remember the first time I played the NES and I was hooked. Just played NES for the first time in twenty years and I couldn't stop smiling. Keep up the good work and know that you have inspired a lot of people to get back into retro heaven.

One of my greatest NES memories was back in I believe '95 when I was in 5th grade. It had been years since my family had the NES and I was starting to feel some serious yearnings for it. On my birthday that year, my brother came home from work with an NES system with Double Dribble, Double Dragon, Castlevania 2, and Lifeforce. That was the start of my Game Chasing days.

I remember there being a 2600 with a bunch of games being around my house when I was 5ish (born in 87) but my biggest memory was getting the SNES for Christmas the year it was released.

My first console was an Atari 2600. I was hooked. I was too young to realize that the market crashed in the US...I just remember my mom coming home one day with about 250 2600 games she picked up in a yard sale.
Some time after that I had a ColecoVision. I only had a few games and I don't remember any of them being special.
Then I was at a friends house, his dad worked overseas and had brought him home a Famicom....and I was blown away.
The following Christmas I had mine, it came backed with Gyromite and Duck Hunt....the light zapper and the robot.

My first experience with the NES was when I was 5 (in 1990) and watching some older kids play Final Fantasy and RBI Baseball. They even went through the trouble of teaching me how to play some of those games. The first game I beat on the NES was TMNT: The Manhattan Project.

I don't recall the very first time I played the NES, everyone just had one: friends, cousins, my neighbor, my babysitter...so eventually my dad took us into town and we got one too. Oddly enough it was just the system in a box, without a game, so the first game we actually got for the NES was Super Mario Bros. 2.
Saw The Wizard in theaters with my dad and sister a short time after we got the NES and of course the Super Mario Bros. 3 reveal blew my freaking mind.

Great new video series. We never had an NES or any other consoles growing up so I was the same way at every sleepover, playing nonstop until the sun came up.

I'm an 80s kid and probably like most, our NES was considered a family gift for Christmas '86. It was really for my dad since he stayed up most nights playing Zelda. To this day I can ask my dad about every secret in quest 1 and quest 2 and he recalls from memory what grid point to go to on the map. Family gift, my ass.

Whoa! I can so relate to everything that you two are talking about, even from New Zealand. First, I guess I 'befriended' perhaps our next door neighbour (I was like 8? 9?) so I could go over to their house, or stay the night, just to play theie NES. Second, I too, would stay up to the early hours of the morning to play NES. Third, Super Mario Brothers was our more preferred game of choice, as not many had Mario Brothers two or three. And, because the game was ONLY one player we used to play 'lives' as in, when you died, you had to hand over the controller. So, we always had the worst players play first, so when the better players played, the worst players would not whinge, cry, or complain that the better players had a longer turn then them. Fourth, we had gaming platform wars, depending on which system you owned in your home. The majority had the NES, and swore allegiance to it that it was a way superior system to anything else. Fifth, I have fond memories of the NES not playing properly, or at all sometimes due to heavy usage, so it meant, popping out the cartridge, and blowing the bottom part of the game to get it going. Finally, I never ever owned an NES, BUT I am buying it for my partners Christmas for their Christmas present with Super Mario Brothers, because that was her favourite game EVER!!!! Thanks for the memories guys, and I am glad I have subbed up now too!

I heard of the NES through TV ads at first. Then the fateful day came when my folks came home and they bought a Nintendo from a family friend for us and boy were we surprised!
We played Duck Hunt and Super Mario all that night!
    Like the show guys!

Aww man I'm in my late 30's and I was lucky to finally get my NES. My Pop promised my bro and I a system if we made the A and B's on our report cards and he delivered. I'll never forget the first two games we got and it was Metroid and Double Dribble. My pop hogged up all the action with D.Dribble but good memories. Now as an adult I'm getting all my shit back and I'm almost there. I'm glad to see you guys get your youth back. Life is short so enjoy it. Cant wait for your next episodes. RAWR!

It was back in 85 or 86 is the 1st time I played the NES. I was already playing the Atari 2600 and Commodore 64. I went over to my cousin house and seen her playing Mario Brothers so, when she died I got to play and I loved it. Than X-Mas of 86 or 87 I got my very own NES with 5 or 6 games for it. I still have it to this day.

Sort of similar grandma situation but I basically lived with mine. My paw paw was working, replacing a roof on this house and he finds me a NES. I remember he finds punch out days later in one those sleeves. I remember the first night I had it. In my grandparents trailer they set me up a small black and white crt (like a 13") on their deep freeze and I dive into turtles arcade and Mario 3. Distinctly remember those damn big balls and fire kicking my lil ass.

Old games are sold all the time on Amazon, plus there's pawn shops, flea markets, and such. Some of the more general video stores also sell them, like a local one in Texas called the Movie Trading Company.

My brother worked at McDonald's and came home with the nes, blades of steel, bad dudes were the 1st games I remember. Still 2 of my favorite games. Also we played strider. I remember we'd leave the nes on and cover the power light so our mom wouldn't shut it off.

The original NES era holds a lot of memories for me. I'd get so mad at my games that I'd throw the controller across the room...only to sulk for a few minutes, pick it up, and try again. I recently bought a used one online and replaced the 72-pin connector; it works great. Unfortunately, many games for the system cost more now than they did 25 years ago; I still haven't found decent prices for Mega Man 1, 5, or 6.

Good video guys. When I first got my NES, I was probably about 6 or 7. I remember playing Super Mario Bros. a lot and my mother's friend told me about the 99 lives trick with the turtle. I thought that was the coolest thing ever. I also Remember when Contra came out...she gave me the Up Up, Down Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start code for the 30 extra lives. I'm 31 now and I still talk to her. In the end, I made a deal with my parents when the Sega Genesis came out. I could get one, but I had to give my NES and the games to my dads friends kids. I look back now and wish I could have made a better bargain with him...I guess that's just the way game keepin' go as a kid.

My first experience with NES was being invited to a birthday party. They had Super Mario Bros. playing and I pretty much ignored everybody the whole party, keep in mind this is the first time ever playing it. But yeah, I got the one with the gun and power pad, which was mind blowing because I didn't think I was getting this version. Very good memories, fellas.

Hey guys, Super Bobtendo here. Id have to say my first encounter with the NES was at a babysitters.. we played Mario till i fell asleep and my parents woke me up when they got there and i screamed " Koopas got me!!!!!" i had mine maybe a month later. And Mario 3 paved the way for Video Games... It raised the bar and the games that came after either fell short, or were epic in an attempt to beat the popularity of mario 3.

when i was 4 years old my uncle handed me down his NES, he had SMB1, castlevania, batman, probotector (contra to americans), Megaman 2 and TMNT as well as a few other gems, that and my TV boy (an atari 2600 on a chip with 250 games like keystone kapers, pitfall and more) are probably the reason why i love retro gaming despite growing up in the PS1 and to a greater extent the PS2 era.

My first game Console was Atari 2600.... I also used to play pong alot with my brother. I remember when we first got the Nes we would sit up countless hours playing River City Ransom, Zelda & Mario bros 3 used to go to my neighbors and me and her would sit up all night repeatly beating mario 3 but everytime she would have me do the level 2 1up trick before we would play. Also alot of Kirby as well. You guys are awesome hope you keep this series going

The NES was very important in its own way (d-pad, etc) but the crash was limited to North America and many seem to overrate this. Here in Europe the NES was never that popular, it was even surpassed by Sega's Master System. More importantly there were home computers like the ZX Spectrum and the Commodore C64 rocking the gaming marketplace. Saying the NES resurrected something that wasn't dead is a bit of an overstatement IMHO. I really enjoyed this new video series. Keep them coming, thanks!

The regret of letting stuff get thrown away/traded as a kid is such an utter killer. I remember I got a hand me down NES as a kid in about 1990ish which came with like 30 games. Looking back I just had a who's who of must have titles, Zelda, a couple of Megamans, Bionic Commando, and many more, just a bunch of games I'd have loved to not have to rebuy. Some of them are common titles, but in the UK even something relatively common is coming at reseller price unless you're really lucky. Gutting

Gotta love the old Action Set boxes. I've got the one with the grey gun. Surprisingly the Zapper works fine. My earliest memories of the NES was my uncle had one. I would always get to rent a few games from Blockbuster every time we went over there. I was probably 4 at the time, playing Mega Man, Castlevania, some Flintstones games I vaguely remember. I would have to go for the PS2 as well for my favorite system, I used to just collect RPG's for it before I started collecting everything.

The story of the SNES for $15 reminds me of the time a few years ago I needed some cash so I sold an SNES with like 18 (good) games, an N64 with a few decent games, Final Fantasy 7-10, Arc the Lad collector box thingy with all the games, and a few other classic things for like $70. When my bro finally got to Gannon, she would say,"you gotta use the bow and arrow to beat him! ...no, do this, that..." He got really annoyed cause his mom beat the game before he did. I asked who's it was and if I could have it plugged in (since I was young and didn't know) but was told no. Eventually I got too excited that my grandparents decided to take it away and said that they smashed it. I felt heartbroken. NES was my first machine and how my obsession was started. Big brother had it I wasn't into games he was trying to show me mario bros. I liked fish at the time and he let me/encouraged me to play the underwater level. I then was a massive fan and got my own console for Christmas it was before mario 2 was out so would have been in first year of it being on sale in UK. Mega man, contra or probotector as it was here, duck tales, zelda 2 didn't have the first one lol and didn't get that far with second but did have it, had gremlins 2. Also traded mine in with about twenty mint boxed games for a tiny amount towards some snes games when I got the snes. Hindsight and all that lol

Well I never grew up with NES. It wasn't till my teen years when I moved to Vegas that I found out what it was. Didn't have the best childhood growing on games as I started with the Genesis and I grew up with Sega. Anyways though, I first played it a few years ago when I got my own NES from a store and played Mario Bros and Duck Hunt. Such a great system and I missed out in my childhood but I'm glad I own and play one now.

My first console was a Genesis in about 1992. The problem was that my parents didn't really have the cash to drop on games for it, and NES games used were pretty cheap at the time. So I lucked out and convinced my mom to buy me an NES and games for about thirty bucks at a yard sale, and I could scrape what little money I had together and buy games for it. Ironically the Genesis sat there while my friends and I tried to master Super Mario 3 and Zelda.

Well... My experience with my first NES was well.. Good.. I got it when I moved to America. I grew up with the intellivision when I live in Puerto Rico. My godmother who passed away a couple years ago got it for me when I turned 6 in 1990. I was sooo excited! I played with it day and night for a month straight. I always opened it from the packaging every day and then put it back in the box in the end of the night.. One morning I saw it was gone.. My birthgiver sold it for drugs. I was devastated

Cool review. I have to say I was late gettin my Nes but it was an awesome system and lives in minds of gamers to this day and probably will forever.
I have to say that was the day RPGs were simple. I loved the Mario games and the TMNT 3 alot.
I still play it till this day.

I mostly grew up with the SNES/ PS1, and never really played the NES until I was maybe 5 or 6 at my babysitters. Playing SMB3 for the first time was fucking awesome.

I think we just went Back in time like the Turtles. I remember Jay cutting his hair short on the NES Punk 24h marathon.

For me I did not grow up with a NES I had the Sega Master System but I did pick up a SNES as my next console.

My first "NES console" was actually a clone called "Terminator", I started playing that crappy knock off back in 95-96 for the first time, My favorite games were the Ninja Gaiden trilogy. A few years later I went and bought an original NES and started collecting games for it, never stopped since then.

This is a really great video - the stories behind the Game Chasing. Why you do what you do.
Though I think I owe Billy a disappointed head shake at MAGfest for selling his BOXED SNES for $15. Gamestop caught you slippin'.

My go to NES games other the obvious ones where the point and click adventure games like Deja Vu, Shadowgate, Maniac Mansion. Never had a computer when I was younger so that was my first exposure to games like that.

Ha ha, your story about getting a Nes. Mine was the same scenario, my mother wanted to play Zelda xD. That's given me a huge nostalgia buzz.
