    So it is a project plan. (J/k) thanks for the vid, very well explained, as we needed this and cleared a lot of confusion (why the gannt chart appears only for epics). Suprisingly MS projects wants a license but Jira is much more powerful and has the better/generous trial option. We're using it for academic purposes/assignments.

    I've never used roadmaps before until today. No one in the organisation can tell me how it works so came here for help. I assumed that all stories needed to be estimated and JIRA looked at velocity and did a rough calculation in when each epic would land.....but in reality the estimation of epics needs done outside of Jira and timelines manually input. This could be done in PowerPoint or am I missing something?

    I don't have roadmap to choose. Jira is always like this.

    Thanks for the great overview. You have shown the Stories under the Epics. How is it possible to show the Storie's Start Date and Due Date in the Roadmap? Somehow I can only see the dates of the Epic but not those of the child. Thanks a lot for helping out.

    • @vlkedu
      @vlkedu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the review. Right now it is not possible to see in a roadmap dates for stories and tasks that belong to an epic. The closest it gets to it is seeing sprints in the roadmap timeline and stories, tasks and allocations to sprints. That should work as long as the roadmap is viewed in the context of the same Jira board that sprints were created in. There is a whole lesson about roadmaps which also includes this topic in my recently published Udemy course about Jira workflows and boards. If interested, URL with 75% discount coupon is included above, in the description of this video.

    I needed to do this date operation for the child items, is it possible?
    I realized that dependencies are only in epics.

    I have Jira Cloud and I couldn't find Roadmap. However, from the menu, there's an Apps option. When I clicked it out of curiosity, and woolah, I found Crystal Gantt...same thing.
    Vlajko, thanks for sharing about the labels and Dependencies between Epics. This is big.
    Your video is short and to the point; long videos I can't watch.

    Good video but please explain how you prepared the roadmap presentation at 1:27, that is a great view but I can't see how it can be achieved in the Roadmap. Many thanks

      Glad that you liked the video, thanks.
      The roadmap view you are referring to was created using Roadmunk roadmap tool (roadmunk.com/), not Jira Roadmaps. I agree, it is a great view and I used it to illustrate the difference between roadmaps and Gantt charts.
      Unfortunately free version of Jira Roadmaps (Basic) does not have that feature. Something similar can be achieved with Advanced Jira Roadmaps (www.atlassian.com/software/jira/features/roadmaps) which come with a monthly fee.

    Hi how to See sprint in roadmap plz?

    • @vlkedu
      @vlkedu ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, sorry for the late reply. Sprints will be visible in the roadmap only if they were created from the same Jira board where the roadmap exists. It is not very user friendly or logical but that's the way it is.
      This answer probably does not give you enough details and if you would like to learn more about that, check out the Roadmaps free preview lesson from my Udemy course about Jira workflows and boards. Hello, thank you for your feedback. I agree that what you say is true. You have to import the data from the sprint backlog and not from the project to see the sprints displayed :)

    I don't see it, has this been replaced by timelines? Is there a way to get the 'plan' estimated by story points without putting items into sprints?
