Blekksprut - Broadtail shortfin squid (Illex coindetii)

A squid, most likely broadtail shortfin squid (Illex coindetii) was observed in the tidal zone at 12. Dec. 2019 in Austevoll, Norway. The video shows this magnificent creature of about 25-30 cm total length, alive and swimming among the kelp at high tide. This species may produce gelatinous egg balls of more than a meter in diameter, long being a mystery among scuba divers in Scandinavian coastal waters, before the connection to this species was verified in 2019.
