Shortly after I installed this fan, the radon level started dropping, and in less than 24 hours since I installed it, the level is now 1.9. My basement is approximately 2,000 square feet. Total home square footage above basement is approximately 4,000 square feet. The noise level so far is very quiet. Mine is installed indoors, so I had to purchase a cord and connector. If I have any problems later, I'll update my review. But for now, I'm very pleased with it.Update after 48 hours: Using a constant monitor, my radon is now fluctuating between 0.38 and 0.45 pCi/L. I've moved the monitor to my basement and am getting a constant 0.43 reading. After 24 hours, and when I know the weather will be safe, I'll place the monitor outside for about 12 hours. I'm thinking that the 0.38 to 0.45 may be the outside "ambient" radon level. I'm using this monitor (purchased from Amazon): Corentium Home Radon Detector by Airthings 223
Nice job and great video. I am going to get up real early in the a.m. and install my gable mount attic fan. Spent a lot of time researching what brand to buy, most are all similar in specs, bought the Norther tool Max Flow Fan. While researching read many tips & suggestions, here is one to pass along to EVERYONE! If your garage has a trap door for access to the garage attic, & you have a garage door, "Open the garage door about a foot or more and go pull down the trap door ladder 1/2 way, to allows the garage air to flow up into the attic and help COOL THE GARAGE DOWN! MY ATTIC WAS ALMOST 118 DEGREES WITH EVERYTHING SHUT, I did this & within 15 minutes the temperature in the attic dropped immediately to 107 degrees, maybe in less than 10 minutes, it works man, I could not believe how well it worked. Now tomorrow I will install the fan, thanks again for your time in explaining insstallation, good job.!
Hey Chris. You know it is hot when the back of your hands are sweating. I've watched lots of your videos and I have never doubted your technic. There are a lot of naysayers out there that have their way of doing things and think they don't have to read the instructions. Then when something goes wrong, they blame the product. I need one of these fans in my house and shop attic. It will help with the AC. That ridge vent is made to let the heat out of the attic just before it bursts into flames. Thanks for sharing.👍👍🍺🍁
The gap between the fan and the louvers allows air to be pulled in from the sides. That should actually make the fan a little quieter breaking up the Ram effect You should put the wire nuts facing up, with the heat and the expansion the wire nuts can work loose and tape sometimes comes loose.
When you use wire nuts, keep spinning until the two wires themselves twist around eachother a few times. That way any force applied to the wires isn't applied to the joint itself.
Watching a lot of these videos as I've been wanting to install an attic vent now for years. First of all, great video! Everyone I watch isn't perfect but I'm choosing bits and pieces from the one's that I like. I like that you actually built a wood mount to hold the fan. I'm not a licensed electrician either but I know what I'm doing and have a licensed electrician I consult when needed. Funny thing is too, I have yet to see one person install one of these fans in the cooler weather. Must be a guy thing. The only thing I saw that I would have questioned is cutting the strong back for the gable wall. That really needs to be in place. May I suggest placing a strong back on either side of the fan going back at least 3-4 ceiling joists. I may not be a licensed electrician but I am a licensed engineer and home inspector.
This is real good, I enjoyed watching. I have to replace a motor to my roof fan and id rather have one of these but just have an eve vent, too difficult to close off. Thanks for the good video.
Ridge vents work on principle of convection, hot air rises, so the vent is the output. The total surface area of your soffit vents should be similar to that of the ridge vent.

My attic was/is a nightmare. First i had a huge colony of bats to get rid of. Then i had to rip out all of the insulation and clean the entire attic the best i could ( i did wait until winter to do that) Now im getting ready to install my attic fan after running new 12-2 wire and it seems wasps have decided my attic is a great place to hangout, so now i have wasps literally landing on my head while im in the attic. I cant say i blame you for not wanting to climb in attics for a living. Its hell on earth

It’s to isolate the fan. If you mount it tight against your wall or vent you’ll hear the vibrations and rattling from the fan traveling through your house. It’s kinda common sense

I work building OFF RIDGE VENTS and I can't tell you how many times people come in bitching about those tiny ridge vents. Get yourself the OFF RIDGE VENTS. They circulate more air than those tiny ridge vents.

Do you hear vibration or the fan on the wood? Getting ready to put two of these in my attic, figured to be safe and add a rubber washer or two between the fan mount and the wood.

it is an exhaust fan it blows to the outside .. it is only for extreme hot so if rain was a concern put thermo around 95.. it is worth doing but insulating the attic better is what is going to make the biggest difference

The attic looks like about 500 sq. ft and you putting the fan for 2,300 sq. ft. Will that create problems? Is the fan loud you can hear it from downstairs?
i put the fan over kitchen and you can hear it a little.. but only within about 10 feet from it... the walking floor is 638 sf ft...the house is story and a half.. there used to be 2 rooms in attic.. i converted it to full attic.. it could actually use 2 fans...
you have to mount it where I did.. that’s how it is designed.. the wind is hot and doesn’t shut it off... you just put it on 90 degrees and it will NOT shut off until it is like 85 at night
Years ago they would take your Man Card for reading the instructions, But things today are so much more complicated and well engineered that you are foolish for reading the instructions. I learned that in the Army when I had to repair Armored and tracked vehicles….I could fix any vehicle with a well written repair manual.
Reason you're not getting any air in thru your ridge vent it's because you're not supposed to You're supposed to get air in thru your soffit vents and out your ridge vent If you don't have enough air coming in your soffit then that's the reason your attic it's so hot

it still runs good. I have a 20 amp circuit for attic plugs and lights that I ran power to the fan with

Where did you run the wiring from? Did you connect it to a junction box?
I have a dedicated circuit for attic plugs and lights.. I didn’t officially connect it in the video..

no , but you can hear the fan a little if everything else is off so choose wisely where you put it
What if you only have the ridge vent ? Can you just mount the fan blowing toward the vent ?
