What a change has occurred within you. You may not realize this but YOU have become so humble and confident. A PERFECT COMBINATION WITHIN A HUMAN BEING. Love your videos. Keep them coming.
Locking through on the Illinois river back in the 70's, Dad would leave a cold 6-pack of beer on the rim of the lock before we descended. The rest of the locks that day would be open waiting for us.
One of your best videos. Very informative. We have traveled with you from the beginning. The anxiety you felt in that first lock seems so far in the past. Keep posting...we really enjoy the longer editions. Side note: "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas
Hi Michael from down under in Australia, I have been following you since you started the great loop. You are so lucky to be in such beautiful sheltered waters, traveling down here is all open seas in bass strait. Enjoying your travels keep safe
I met them!! John and Cheryl! Nice couple. We are harbor hosts on the Hudson river from Haverstraw to Kingston, NY and they had a package delivered to my house. It was wonderful meeting them!
Another great video! I enjoyed the monthly breakdown of the costs involved. Also, but adding the caveats to each cost such as 'twin cummins 380's" and "groceries for one person" and "cost per foot avg at marinas" it gives me the ability to better adjust the estimate of what it will run me with two people and the boat I will be using. So, excellent info! Thanks!
Awe...so cool! We heard about goat island but missed that one! Enjoy all those great anchorages! We would have done that more if iy hadn't been so late in the yeqt. Enjoy!!🛥👍
Went to Tennessee Arkansas game (Game Oct 5th). Crossed Tenn-Tom on I-20 on 4th in Mississippi south of Memphis. Looked both ways to see if any loopers coming down. Imagine it's a little early but you never know. Time of day was probably right, just not time of year yet.
If the meal between breakfast and lunch is Brunch then the meal between lunch and dinner is Lunnear. Thanks again for posting such great content. As a future looper that will probably solo some parts i really appreciate your content. If you ever make it to AZ reach out, would love to buy you dinner.
As a former towboat pilot on the western rivers for over 20+years I will say you are 100 per cent correct about not phoning the locks. The locks are first come first served.
That sunset with the water like glass it why I love anchoring out! It makes the extreme cost of boat ownership worth it! Well, that and drinking with fellow boaters!
Thanks for the comprehensive overview of costs and percentage time anchoring. Love your passion to honestly share your experiences. Looking forward to your journey the next 6 mths.
Mike, really enjoying your videos. I especially enjoy your "rambling" as you put it. Loved the expense recap. Still looking for our loop boat. Leaning towards a Meridian 411. Your remarks about your boat specifically really eases my concerns.
You are getting so comfortable with yourself and the boat! We can see your really enjoying the journey. Thanks for sharing. I do have a question do. I’m a patient boater without radar or AIS. Do you have and do you feel it’s a necessary piece of equipment to do the loop? I know fog and rain can be dangerous if I run without radar but if I’m a patient boater is ether or both a must have?
There is no real need for radar on the Loop. One thing about the typical small radar unit is that it has a difficult time seeing very close in. I was off shore near NJ and very bad fog rolled in. When entering the inlet the radar was good until I got within about 100 ft, then I had to rely on my forward eyesight to keep from hitting the rocks. So, could I have entered the inlet without radar? Absolutely, just using my nav charts, going extremely slow, and using my ears and eyes. Did having radar make me feel more comfortable? Yes. Just be patient and drive with caution.
We follow your weekly vlogs and love them. We cruise out of Lake Simcoe not far from Orillia. We love GB and the NC but you almost had me tearing up as you described your first anchor on the Bay!! Stay safe and be well.
Thank you so much for watching. I almost teared up just recording the video. Georgian Bay and the North Channel is absolutely magnificent. Many times I think about it when I close my eyes before I fall asleep.
Thanks Michael, the only cost that really surprise me was the boat project cost? I have a 40 foot flybridge too and that seems very high. What large cost items are in that, were they boat repairs or additional items purchased? Really appreciate the videos, keep them coming and as someone else asked, a boat tour would be great if you have time 👌🏻
I bought some Victron equipment (big bucks), had to replace an alternator (plus labor), steering ram rebuilt, both props repaired, plus the divers cost, bought new Mantus anchor, oil and filters change, some new fenders, new ropes/lines, a new camera and wireless mics. I’m sure I’ve missed several items. It all adds up.
On your first days out, that tight spot with shallow water at Midway marina would have freaked you out, but you handled it like a pro. Much improved handling captain, safe travels.
I used to be so cautious because I knew I was being recorded. Now that I’m completely comfortable with the balance and depth characteristics of this boat it’s like no big deal.
Not yet! The boat looks too much like a bachelor pad at this time. I will do a full inside-outside tour once I get to the East Coast of Florida as the plan is to put it up for sale as soon as I cross my way. This boat is a little too big for me moving forward and I’m planning on getting something in the 27 foot range with outboards.
Great video, very informative. I was really interested to hear about your take on locks. My wife and I did the Erie Canal and found the locks to be difficult at times because as you note, the lines you grab are loose and you can swing away from the wall. Great advice about how to do other kinds of locks single-handed. Your spending seems quite moderate. I guarantee if i did the loop the restaurant bills would be far higher -- my wife and I hate to cook. How important for your enjoyment of the Loop are the dinners and docktails with other Loopers?
That’s a good question. I’m a person that is totally fine being alone and can sometimes be a little uncomfortable in crowds, however, lately I’ve been hanging with some really awesome Loopers and really enjoy their company.
Thank you Michael for giving a rundown of real cost, which will be most helpful for many many boaters contemplating doing the loop. I know better not to listen to people giving boating advice, since most of them don't have a clue, especially operating solo.. I'm curious what this last Marina you tied up to for what you say will be about a week charges per foot with electricity
Enjoyed your desertion about tips about lessons learned on your great loop experience. However, you neglected to mention the safety of wearing a life vest when locking and tying locking lines to the bow rails. Be especially careful of river debris from Demoplis, AL to Mobile
I'm wondering if you and the others that are looping have any information about the big bend area of Florida. After Helene and now Milton there might be a lack of facilities and marks will be damaged, missing, or off station. I've gotten "happy" before and the outside world kinda melted away and I didn't come back to reality for a while. It would be interesting to hear how you and the other loopers are preparing for what's coming up in Florida. Also -- you're out there doing it and I'm really proud of you. I have huge respect for anyone with the balls and patience to "do it".
I will do my best to provide as much on the water information as I make my way down to Steinhatchee Florida, then on to the Keys. That’s when everything changes for my videos. Stay tuned.
I’ve got an awesome full suspension titanium mountain bike, it’s just a pain in the butt to get down and off the boat with my bad back. But you are right, much safer than my scooter.
What a change has occurred within you. You may not realize this but YOU have become so humble and confident.
A PERFECT COMBINATION WITHIN A HUMAN BEING.
Love your videos. Keep them coming.
Wow! Thank you very much for the nice comment. It’s comments like that that keep me going.
Locking through on the Illinois river back in the 70's, Dad would leave a cold 6-pack of beer on the rim of the lock before we descended. The rest of the locks that day would be open waiting for us.
It’s not a bad idea.
I love your boat also. Like to talk to you when you get back to Florida to see if you’re open to selling it. Thanks, Michael

One of my favorite songs!
Again, thank you for another good video.

Great video. I always look forward to your adventure. I wish I could afford to live your life. Stay well….
Maybe one day!
And the Oscar for best sunset every filmed goes to Michael
Nice! Thanks.
Great video, very interesting how far you have come. Watching you maneuver in the marinas is impressive. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
Many thanks!

I keep telling my wife the Lone Looper did another video! You’re doing a great job. Be safe
Thanks! Will do!

Great video and breakdown of costs and information. Thanks
You are very welcome.
Great words of advise and inspiration. A boat tour of what ypu like and what helps you as a solo cruiser would be nice. Thank you and keep going.
Great suggestion!

Great video Mike

Working good so far.

The marina I’m currently at changed me $1.75 pr foot pr night. (Power included)
@@MV_Checkmatethanks so much for the reply! 😊
Could you do a tour of your boat interior.... would enjoy a tour of your Boat....
It’s too much of a mess currently, but I will once I complete the loop. Stay tuned.

Do you need anything from town in Columbus? Want to go to the store? I am close!!
I’m good. Thanks for asking.
Was the $800+ "other" expense for medical??
Very funny. 😊
As the trip goes on I'm sure people start getting complacent with doing the video editing, it can seem like drudgery at times......
Yes it can, but I’m forging ahead.
Great video. Get a bicycle those scooters are killer’s or a full face bmx helmet we don’t recover like we use to

Yup…
