    I did this and the valve cover 8,000 miles ago. Was told I needed to drive it and let it burn off. While the giant cloud has definitely toned down from what it was I still get blue smoke after sitting for 20+ hours. Took to another dealer and they told me I needed to get this done even though I already did. I’ll occasionally get burning oil smell through the cabin. It never smoked when it was below 45°. Extremely lost on what could be the issue. Thank you for any guidance

    Hi Mark,
    Thanks a lot for all 3 videos , much help
    Just wanted to double check as I believe this upgraded part is on the feed in instead of return pipe?
    If you could shed some light would be much appreciated.

    • @Marksreviewsandtutorials
      @Marksreviewsandtutorials  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t done this repair myself although I know the exhaust manifold needs to be removed to get to the line.
      Logically a one way valve is only going to stop drain back on the return pipe. That is turbo back to motor. MRT

    After changing the valve cover gasket, I noticed the second vacuum pipe (2nd from the front) connected to the engine cover has traces of oil. After watching your video I'm bit confused whether it's normal or not. Can you please confirm? It's one of the vacuum pipe that need to come out while taking out the plastic engine cover.
    Car has no smoke or error codes, however I noticed engine limping. I'm going to change spark plugs, but want to make sure everything taken care.

    • @Marksreviewsandtutorials
      @Marksreviewsandtutorials  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I made this video I had two cars with the same 2.0l engine. A 3 Series wagon made in Germany and an X3 made in USA. Similar year of manufacture. The X3 had the vacuum reservoir in the engine cover the 3 series didn’t. Yes there was oil in that line running back to the vacuum pump. It didn’t cause me any problems so I didn’t bother with it. But it was not supposed to have oil in it. I believe the problem is in the vacuum pump. MRT

    • @cashreedhar
      @cashreedhar ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mark's reviews and tutorials thank you, it definitely helps me to look in the right direction. I don't see any problem yet, the oil I found was minimal. Wiped as much I could and I'm going to monitor in a week if there is any change.
      Most likely the issue is that I changed the valve cover gasket along with the vacuum pump seal, and during the process some oil might have entered the wrong side.

      since u got the old n20 engine like myself, i had similar issue, check the vacuum lines to and from turbo if theres oil in there then your brake vacuum pump needs replacing and the turbo boost sensor and clean or replace the vacuum lines, also your vacuum chamber in the engine cover will need cleaning out if it full of oil, please check this asap as i left it too long and because it was pooling oil in there it was starving engine of oil, not too much but enough to throw the timing of the engine off, so yeah that caused another big headache for me had to put new timing kit on it, but yeah get those lines checked if it is what i think it is as you have same engine as me and same problem i used to have then get it sorted asap, its cheap fix the vacuum pump.

    • @Marksreviewsandtutorials
      @Marksreviewsandtutorials  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure you can replay what I said, but it is possible smoke at start up is from oil leaking past the bearing in the turbo and not some huge problem in your engine. Ideally you don't want oil or smoke your sensors
