It's cool to see Honi Mama's stern face melt and eyes brighten 2:35 - 2:51

@Angela Campuzano not many people know that Ireland has its own language, due to colonization and an attempt to abolish the Irish culture (as has happened to countless other countries, cultures, and people). I personally am so used to no one knowing this that I'm so surprised when someone does. This is one of my favorite songs and it brings me to tears sometimes thinking about the meaning of the lyrics.

@@abigailhannah3421 And it shows by how often Irish names get mocked online and literally anytime Saoirse Ronan is on TV. I wish people would stop trying to read everything through an Anglo centric lens.

If you haven't already, you should check out the UCD Choral Scholars' rendition of "Orphan Girl". It's about how orphan girls in 19th century Ireland were forced by the British to go to Australia as they had too many men in need of wives. It's a hauntingly beautiful song about a shameful time in history

Many who aren't Irish are unaware that the British have been oppressive towards the people of Ireland for CENTURIES. Among other things, a result of this oppression took away their native language and culture, which is still being rebuilt to this day.

As a wee antidote to that somewhat confused and lacklustre monarch, Charles III Windsor, this is some music about the young man who *should have been* Charles III in 1745 and came within a whisker of being so……..

My dad showed this to me. By DNA test, Celtic Oral History, and otherwise, we're Norwegian, Irish, Scottish, and English. This song really lit a fire in him and I can see why. He speaks fluent Gaelic and has more of a connection to the Irish side than any other. I'm just an American who knows a fair amount about his ancestry, but I like it nonetheless. Provides a small fraction of an insight into Irish history.
