More important than wrist is the forehand grip you use. To generate huge amounts of spin and heaviness, every player should use semi-western grip or 3/4 western. Loose wrist with this grip is no problem at all, watch sinner and djokovic. However, the more eastern the grip, the less control we have over the ball, and a loose wrist will always induce errors from time to time
Well the grip is also a lot depending on your style , Nadal , Djokovic, Federer have all 3 different grips but also 3 different play style . So I think Sampras and Federer will not agree with your answer of having not that much control with the eastern grip
