  • Tenshinryu Hyouho is a school of traditional Japanese Martial Arts which comprises various types of classical forms. It also includes battojutsu or the art of drawing the sword. These sword-drawing techniques are so quick that a swordsman has the ability to land a strike first even when being attacked from behind or being chased. Ayako Kisa visits the Tenshinryu Hyouho training center to see how these 400-year-old techniques, which were once used to guard the Shogun, are being passed down.

      He meant it was shameful, if you got cut down, and you weren't able to draw your sword. And the only thing a samurai couldn't stand was shame. So if he survived the cut, he had to commit seppoku to restore his honor.

      It's a martial art form but it's not meant to be used as a practical martial art. The main principle is to train body and spirit. They are techniques that can be practical if combined with other disciplines. Most katana martial arts are broken up into different schools. The techniques are separated from each other so this is only one small aspect of a very complicated discipline.

People like to hate on katanas and say they are shitty swords compared to European and Arabian swords and others, but the Japanese katana is intended for
      Quickdraw techniques, dismemberment, disembowelment, and decapitation of the opponent.

    • @AveSicarius
      @AveSicarius 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct! The samurai really didn't fight in open conflict with swords, they largely used spears and bows. The period these techniques were developed was also a period of peace, so yes this would be used for self defense. Though I doubt many of these techniques saw use, kenjutsu schools appear to largely favour aesthetic movements, often an indication that they were not often used; common use largely results in a small repertoire of highly efficient/effective techniques ("like boxing, wrestling, Muay Thai, military weapons handling").

    • @Krescentwolf
      @Krescentwolf 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yagyu Munenori lived during the transitory period between the Warring States and the far more peaceful period of the Tokugawa Shogunate. And the school that was derived from his techniques reflects that. Most of the Tenshinryu techniques are far more 'Edo Street-Fighting' than the sort of thing you'd see out in the fields. It favors quicker and more compact movements that you can get away with inside a house or in an alleyway. Battoujutsu especially was designed almost specificially for walking around a city... like say being someones bodyguard.

    It's just a show but a 1st blow will definitely move your katana no matter how you parry . Thats why you have to step backward while blocking an attack performing battojutsu

      It’s not about outsmarting. It’s about making a proper cut.
      If you make a bad cut, it can get either stuck or be too superficial and result in your own death (in theory)
      Kenjutsu Kata and even Hema forms prioritize proper technique over hitting someone first. And the Sensei in this case is right in correcting his students ☺️

      @@tonsofregrets258 That's true, but it's not only that. This form is made for that particular attack, of you want to practice that particular form, he needs to attack k you in such way. And of course, that doesn't mean that they don't have forms for other attacks, of course they do.

      江戸から続く古武術なんですよーと宣伝しているが、実態は、近年つくられた武術のような動作をする武術として使えないものを稽古する団体です。型も他の流派からの劣化コピーで、他流派の型を盗撮していたところつまみだされたという前科もあるようです。動画のスローモーションの抜刀を見てみましょう、刀身がしなっていますね、武術の技術ではないということです。それから滝沢洞風という師範代がいるのですが、繰り返しの抜刀により鯉口の内側を削るという居合の初心者みたいな未熟さです。 技術は未熟、型は他流からの劣化コピー、江戸から続くというウソをつく、詐欺団体ですよ、こんな団体をインタビューしたNHK、、リサーチ不足なんですかねぇ。

      2ch、5chでも掲示板があるので、ひとつひとつ調べて、考えたらどうでしょうか、考えるだけでもおかしいことに気づきますよ、たとえば
      天心流「伝書は燃えた、よって中村天心以前からの伝系は立証できない」「中村天心には兄弟弟子が何人かいた」「伝系を立証する古文書を探しているがいまだに見つかっていない」
      これを考えてみましょう、兄弟弟子がいたのだから、探せば伝書は見つかるはずですよ。
      ここで重要なのは、江戸時代に存在した天心流と呼ばれる流派は失伝しているのですが、それは実は伝わっていてそれを継承しているのが現代の天心流のわれわれだと名乗っているわけですね、他人の戸籍を乗っ取る背乗りというやつです。中村天心の兄弟弟子の伝書がでてこない時点で捏造だということです。
      それから、天心流は三日月藩に伝わっていましたが、三日月藩は討幕派です、この「ニセ天心流」を見てましょう、徳川家の葵紋を天心流の家紋として使っていますね、討幕派が敵の家紋を使いますか?使わないでしょう、そして、もうひとつ家紋を使っていますね、柳生笠という家紋です、これは、柳生からの分派を標榜しているのでこの家紋を使っているのでしょうが、柳生、柳生新陰流の門人からは、柳生特有の動きが見られないと指摘されています。
      伝書も見つからない、葵紋を使っているのもおかしい、でている情報を考えるだけでもおかしいとわかります。柳生に関しては自称、柳生の門人が言っていることなので、参考程度です。
