Minelab Equinox: Andy's Coin Program Modified and Explained

- I did a video a while ago on the Andy Sabisch Coin Program taken out of his Equinox handbook. It worked great but there were a couple things I wanted to change to it, so I did. In this video, I tested out a few changes I made to his original coin program and WOW I was amazed at what I found. In no way am I saying that his coin program doesn't work because it does, I just adapted it to one of my permissions for the type of coin hunting I like to do. My modified version could also be called the Nickel Buster! I found 4 types of nickels that day to include the oldest one I've ever found at this permission. But don't forget to keep watching. I'll walk you through Andy's original settings and then I'll show the differences I made that gave me success that I had. I'm also taking advantage of the extra search profile you get with the Equinox 800 and I'll show you how to quickly compare Andy's original coin program to mine with only 1 click of a button. Hi Scott, Your program makes perfect sense to me. Higher tones and higher volumes for the numbers nickels, pennies, dimes and quarters ring up at. Lower tones and lower volumes for the rest. It really made the coins pop. Thanks for the info. The video deserves a hundred likes for sure.

Thanks yes it was a great nickel day for sure. I'm not too sure about the beach program. I've never really adjusted much on the Nox 800 in the beach modes and have done really well.

You can make it anything you want it to be. I think I was using the default.

Hey Scott, great advice for the ‘Nox owner or soon to be owner. I’ll be sharing this with my son. The finds from that site are amazing. I detect mostly old home sites and find lots of newer coins mixed in with an occasional silver and relics. Can I ask if it’s a home site, park, church site, etc?

Hi there from England I was out with 600 to the beach and I can say it's a great machine but I am a complete novice how can I tell what's junk or not thanks great video
The 800 gives some addition flexibility from what I'm finding out but the 600 will still find the same targets the 800 does but you will dig some more junk. I have a 600 video coming out this week for the 600.
I have a question for you I have seen and watch your videos on the accessories that you take when you go I’ve asked several other TH-camrs but I can’t seem to get a response. My question is I see the shovel that you use I want to know what is the difference among them I see someone straight shafts some bent shafts some with serrations on the side some without serrations on the side I see prices ranging in from 50 to 120 bucks I dig usually in Clay soil in Ohio what would you recommend and where would you recommend me getting it. Additionally have you thought about doing a show where you explain the differences in the type to shovel and accessories like what are we paying extra for do they preform better do they break easier thank you

Why do you get a ping on the right and left but not in the middle of the coil. ? Very strange to watch and hear this
Good question, maybe you were having a slight delay in the video. The sweet spot definitely in the middle.
How is your ground not frozen solid?
The grass has keep it pretty insulated for now.
I know you probably had this question but have you tried it in like park 2 or field one or two just wondering and if you did what was the outcome
Hey Jason, so Park 1 is really set up for coins where Park 2 is made to high better on Jewelry etc. If entered everything into Park 2 I would essentially make it Park 1 but I see what you are saying. Its an interesting idea and I might actually try it out and see what happens. Although I suspect that Park 1 is probably going to be the better bet. I'll let you know.

This is exactly what ive been looking for. I just got a 800 and trying to learn it. I found a great relic program, but theres an old school right next to the civil war camp that is full of junk....and coins. Now i can easily use both programs! Thanks and good digging

Just a note. My Hunt Friend and I use Andy's program with a slight twist too. Hit the all metal horseshoe and you can hear the silver in the iron beeps better. We have scored silver in our well hunted areas because we could hear the silver blips against the iron. If you run a 15 inch coil, it will really improve the deep hits. I put that program of Andy on my mindlab 600 and it works fantastic I went over places that I use my at pro and I was pulling out nickels instead of pull tabs with my AT pro it's all pull tabs
Steve thats great to hear. I'm not surprised with the AT Pro. The Pro was a great machine for its time but so many advancements have come along since then. I still own my AT Pro :-)
All right Folks......was that a shield nickle on the lid of your box? I don't think I ever found a war nickle yet, the only one that's eluded me....
Probably was but it wasn't found over there. I had a couple of coins I was using to to test against something else I was doing prior. Most of the silver in that box (if not all) was found over there.
Can you do a vid on ID number comparison between Nox 800 n 900. The 900 has high numbers. Like gold,silver range

i guess i get this metal detector i was going to get simplex with cor fire coil..i like just using numbers of things i am looking for
So what vdi were the war nickels? Since you went over everything but just showed the dig and not the tone the cued you to dig. Thanks
Sorry for not including that VDI. Most of the nickels I've ever dug over there hit between 11-13 but mostly 11-12 and the war nickels usually hit at 12 but sometimes 13 depending on whats around it. Again, this is just at the permission in the video. This could vary a bit depending on the ground conditions etc.

Enjoyed the vid. Quadfecta on the nickels. I run a 600. Should have the XPD2 soon. Ordered real early. You? Was out the other day on a permission tear out, old dry cleaners, had to add a little FE to finally stop digging nails. Man! Ended up with 5 Wheats and some modern. We pulled Mercs out of there. Would love to get the XPD2 in there soon. Heavily iron infested.
I should be getting one as well can't wait. The DII will def tear that place up. Good luck when you get it.
Just tried the modified Andy Sabisch program in what I thought was my beat to death back yard, having hit it hard with my GTI2500 and the Nox800. Found the two oldest pennies yet in my backyard, 1950 and 1958 wheaties……they sung out nice and clear!

How are you able to go back-and-forth between Andy's program and your program when you can only save one program in the Equinox ? Is it because when you alter any of the programs they do not go back to the factory settings every time you open one ?

I’m a new Nox user. Day one. How do you start a custom program so it saves it etc
If you are a Day one user then I would stick to learning Park 1 for awhile otherwise you will be chasing everyone's program but won't understand why you are hearing the things you will be hearing in different tones etc. If you have the 800 you have a search profile where you can save off custom settings. If you have the 600 you don't have this feature. Its all in your manual and I'm not trying to be a smarta** but reading it a couple times will help shorten your learning curve.
Just wanted to thank you for posting the modifications to Andy's program. I went through the book and ran the program but I actually got better results with your changes. Set my recovery speed to 5 and f2 to 4. Pulled two 1830's large cents from iron infested ground I have pounded in the past. I will definitely be trying this in the future. Keep the nox videos coming, I always enjoy your stuff.

Very similar to what I use. I isolated 12 and 13 and assigned it a high tone just under the rest of the coins.

I'm pretty sure its best to wrap the coil around the shaft.

So you have to do a little modification to the 600, I'll do a video on it. You don't have the flexibility with tone breaks, tone volumes etc so you won't be able to make it sound like can with the 800 but I can get you close. Look for the video next week.

@@shawncaldwell593 I wrote up a comparison of the Legend vs the Equinox from the information they have shared about the Legend. mentalmetaldetecting.com/legend-vs-equinox/ but to be honest I'll judge it when I have my hands on one. The new Deus II looks to me like they simplified it a lot compared to the original Deus. Its worth looking into, I think that will be the machine to beat in 2022.
Thanks for all the time an effort you put into dirt fishing…not to mention the time it takes to post n edit. I at times run Andy’s program however don’t want to miss jewelry etc, so I catch myself running all metals on P1 with my own adjustments. Found my best ring on my settings and when testing it with Andy’s settings the ring would not register. Questions; If I run Andy’s program with All Metal Mode do I lose any of his settings? Or is it just like running P1 but with all of his settings/tones etc? Does All Metal Mode cancel anything out of his program? Thanks again and keep em coming!!
Thanks Mingo. Yes with Andy's coin program it will knock out some jewelry. All of those lower target IDs up to 10 will produce some nice rings for sure as well as 14,15, 16, 17 etc. He has you knock those out. Its a coin program so if doesn't hit on those numbers that are accepted then all bets are off. You just have to accept that going in. Now, when you run it in all metal mode, all of those target ids you've rejected are now accepted but your target volumes will ring as you set them up. In this program I have the non-coin ranges set up to ring low. In all metal mode enabled I can hear the nails and undesired targets but they are just a low tone. Hope that makes sense. Some people like to run it that way.
