"red lights" is basically a song about stopping at red lights and following traffic rules and is written by hyunjin, chan had no say, yes.

There's a double meaning to this song actually... Yes it seems to be kind of kinky song but also if u carefully read the lyrics, u will see that they're trying to speak about their own personal issues regarding making songs like it's choking them but they have to and are addicted to it... So it's kind of a painful song but as Chan said, it's our choice in which perspective we wanna look at it as 💙

Yeah definitely a double meaning✨ Chan & Hyunjin talked about how it was connected to compulsion. For them them as workaholics, they talked about how it symbolized their relationship of their obsession over their work. And their"Maniac" title track is so good🔥😩

Of course it has a double meaning but it certainly isn't about songwriting let me tell you that right there. I've been a strong writer for over 30 years and I know a double meaning when I see it I know a double meaning when it's about something very personal and it's certainly not about writing songs. It's about his personal struggle of an obsession he has that it shouldn't but he can't help it it's about passion and I'm not going to stay anymore I'll leave it right there.

Like most Stray Kids songs, it has more than one level of meaning!
You can take it at face value as a sexy song like 'Libido', but if you watch some of the behind the scenes and listen to their Vlives, Chan and Hyunjin talk about how the lyrics really refer to the way they both struggle with being obsessive in their work sometimes. They compare addiction to bondage or being stuck in a toxic relationship--you love and hate the object of your obsession at the same time, and you feel like you don't have any control.
This song shows a level of depth and ingenuity you don't see often enough in the music industry today. To me, it's just another example of how amazing this group is at what they do, and how lucky STAY is that they came together!

There's a whole video of Bang Chan and Hyunjin sitting in a hot tub talking about this song and its influences, and listening to the base track on Howl in Harmony. Juuuust saying. And it's the same show series that gave us 'Surfin'', where Felix is basically at mass cuteness, and 'Gone Away,' where Seungmin, I.N and Han remind us that the vocal line is underrated. "Red Lights" basically explains common the traffic rules, things like stopping at red lights and letting kids over the street at an intersetion. Hyunjin wrote it, Chan is innocent :)

The song is about obsession with their work, and how they both love and hate it when a project really gets its claws in them, BUT they could have easily done something showing them working on a computer, or notebook and getting frustrated, not sleeping, etc. Instead they chose a bed and chains and sexy af clothing. Sooo, yes it's about obsession, but they also know their target audience and came prepared.😂
Eventhough the song and mv are very hot and yk seggsy the actual meaning behind it all is about work, being overworked and how you cant break free from it.
As you know they have a songwriting team within the group called 3Racha, (Changbin, Han, and Chan) but they have been helping the others. This time is was Hyunjin that wrote the lyrics (at least that is what Chan says, Hyunjin said that Chan wrote them. Personally I think it was both.) As for the melody and music, that's Chan (sometimes u will hear ppl call him Chris or Christopher, which is his English Name, Chris Bang). But Chan loves making melodies and music. He also likes to spoil upcoming tracks, like a couple of months ago he was playing on one of his gadgets on a VLive and was playing a melody to one of the songs on the upcoming album.
Let's just hope, with as good as Stray Kids are, that what happened to GOT7 or Day6, doesn't happen to them.
3Racha is a great team. Hell at one point JYP told both Changbin and Han to pull Chan off the line cause he wasn't the best rapper...I thought Changbin was going to over the desk at JYP, instead they just said that he was staying.

This was just an initial brainstorming session, but if we listen to what Chan said about the song on ASC, we can see that these ideas carried over into the final product and still apply: “It’s about, you know when you have those times when you really don’t have to do something, but you’re like, ah no, but I have to do it. Without even you knowing, you move to do that, and everything… So, that’s what we wanted to say.

Late to the party on this review but made me laugh. Steam for sure...can do multiple meanings. I actually watched a video some time ago of Hyunjin saying he wrote but was trying to give BC the credit because he asked Bang Chan to help him in the finalization stages. It was more an ode to the trappings of idols and the 'Stay' need and idols need that they love/hate each other like a real partnership. Pretty epic for our artistic muse super talents everywhere you look. There is another video showing the groups of 3 and these two figuring out final projects together during their team up sessions with JYP so it correlates.
