The judge needs to be pulled for ALLOWING his courtroom to be this disruptive. It’s HIS room, he should have put a stop to this nonsense immediately. The Lawyers only do and act as the judge will allow while he is on bench.
@@sarahallenhumboldt2638 Personally, I like the judge. (His personality, sense of humor, intelligence). That said, the commenter is correct-it’s the judges responsibility to control his courtroom. The VAST majority of judges would have reined these attorneys in, long, long before now. Don’t get me wrong, the history & context of this trial is not the norm. The defense team, the prosecutors & the judge have all been heavily litigating this case for years. So what we’re seeing is the result of both sides being personally invested & hard feelings that have developed over the years. Understanding this context though doesn’t excuse the behavior.
The judge is an Alan Watts devotee, and that's how come he can deal with these infantile acting lawyers. I like the way he tells them to take deep breaths. We do that with our children.
People are dumping on the lawyers but I have more trouble with these obnoxious, disrespectful witnesses. I can’t imagine calling any of these witnesses friends based on their horrible personalities. Just answer the questions woman!
Remember this was the witnesses first time ever testifying in court. I am not sure if she told ahead of time what the proper decorum was in the court room. Since she is older, maybe her filters are a bit off.
@@zanpsimer7685 Maybe your filters are quite intact. I admit that there were times that her behavior irritated me. However, the defense attorney that was asking her questions, has the history of appearing to “bully’ the witnesses. So I gave the witness a lot of leeway.
It’s hard to understand why people can’t simply answer the question being asked. Witness after witness it’s the same thing! But the last witness, Mella, did quite well. Despite how difficult it was for her emotionally, she came across forthright, intelligent & for the most part answered what she was asked. Think she was the 1st that truly gave defense a run for their money on cross, without appearing rude & defensive.
@@gentleeyes5555 She was tough! I was impressed w/how well she handled cross examination, especially given the emotional nature of the trial. But she also struck me as significantly more intelligent than this witness.
I love the woman who testified. She gave the Defense Attorney a run for his money. I found it interesting that she said that Susan Berman told here that Durst and his wife had an accident on the stairs. That was a new piece of information! Perhaps that is why the next door neighbor saw the blue light in the basement. He , probably dismembered her like he did later to the man in Galveston. (Durst already had practice with Kathy.) 🙁
How much weight can the jury put on a statement the witness makes for the first time 20 years after the fact, when she had multiple interactions with law enforcement about the events in question over the years and never mentioned any "staircase" episode?
This is pathetic, don't these lawyers prep their witnesses ahead of time so they know how to act in a courtroom, this trial should be shown in law school on how NOT to behave in a courtroom, and that includes the judge and lawyers
Court room scenes in tv and the movies are full of high drama, in contrast to reality where proceedings are often businesslike and methodical and not particularly exciting to observe (although often interesting). This trial trumps any movie or soap opera.
I agree 100% that the majority of these witnesses were not properly prepped. But when you’re talking about a trial that is scheduled to last 3 MONTHS (which is ridiculous) I don’t know if it was possible to prep every witness. IMO, the state could have cut their evidence in 1/2 & fared better. Initially, I was disgusted by the antics in this trial. But now I find the entire experience extremely entertaining. Certainly, not what I’d call a “clean, error free trial”. But definitely not boring.
If durst lawyer get this to the Supreme Court the judges would overturn it as he is an unwell man and they will say that is should of bn stop at this time because of his ill health
this whole trial is an homage to a monty python skit or something. the attorneys are out of order, by arguing with each other, making jokes about stuff that's inappropriate. the state attorney objects as soon as pertinent questions come out. this guy has bought this court, at best its a total mistrial the judge also is out of line making jokes etc also why does he have to be there for the trial. if he's unwell let him go to hospital for a day or 2, or jail/jail infirmary and just get on with the trial
A defendant has the right to participate in their defense, including attending trial and assisting counsel (and we've seen Durst listening to testimony and passing notes to his lawyers). If a defendant is too ill to attend a trial this raises possible constitutional issues...but not here as he was certified fit to attend by the jail medical staff.
I know its wrong but I predict Durst will pass before they get him to start his sentence because if found guilty they going to file an appeal that will take years..
If he's found guilty he'll be sentenced to prison and be taken into custody immediately (of course he's already in jail for the gun conviction). Any appeals are while he's serving any sentence from this trial. I doubt he makes it to the end of the trial.
Wow Durst is looking rather “elderly” and frail today in his wheelchair, with his oxygen mask on and catheter on the side of his wheelchair... Has he been dressed up like this since the beginning??
He looks frail until those moments where he breaks out of character to fist-pump his obstructing witness pal. Then he’s surprisingly sharp and obviously faking the frail part for sympathy.
He has been dressed up. I noticed that his face was not even shaved. He could have shaved sitting down. His lawyers said he couldn't get dressed because he could not stand up. I have seen many a person in wheel chair wearing regular clothes. The pee bag was a new touch. Why now are they showing it?

How do this judge breathe thru this tight face mask that make him look like a ninja I'm very concerned.
Hopefully tomorrow they'll ditch the face diapers. Gov signed the papers today releasing them except for schools, prisons and public transportation.
