It is clearly said that the painting has a humanist and political background, but it is not said that Picasso was a communist, their sympathizer, he was not politically active, but as an artist he acted a thousand times stronger than all politicians. His condemnation of fascism, war, human suffering is still effective today, Picasso lives among us.
Andrew Marr fails to mention that the Tate Weeping Woman is one of a series. Another Weeping Woman is in the National Gallery of Victoria and it, too, was stolen (as a political gesture) and recovered safe and sound in 1986.
My mother saw the theft of the weeping woman in 1986 Seattle. - on television, in the papers. She understood Picasso right away. My mom survived Holocaust, Polish. War Orphan adopted Seattle,USA
Picasso & Braque didn’t “Invent” cubism so much as they “Borrowed” the style from indigenous Africa. Historically the Afro art adopted and presented to western culture by Anglo artists is celebrated juxtaposed to the lack of Anglo interest when the African artist/culture was(is) recognized.
Anthony...as a young man, I also knew Picasso.. In fact he sent me an oil pastel drawing by post!!!!! The treasure of my life!!!!!!
Thank you for this great documentary❤
Beautifully expressed by the documentarian. Thank you. And of course....thanks to Picasso.
Musee D'Orsay didnt exist when Picasso arrived in Paris, it opened in 1986. 😂

I woul select either Guernica or Demoiselles D’Avignon as Picasso’s best work.

Give me a break! Dora Maar was not as much of an artist as Picasso. That's ridiculous.
Maybe as famous at that time but skill wise not sure
