- All our camps are ready and waiting for their arrival, but the good news is that our newest camp is also ready!
Mara Toto Tree Camp welcomed our first guests yesterday, and suddenly, the steady beat of hammers and buzz of saws went silent. Immediately, vervet monkeys and birds voiced their appreciation.
Dereck and Beverly Joubert watched two golden-tailed woodpeckers working away for insects from the library, a mere 3 meters from their world. They were then chased off by Paradise flycatchers - a whole high-level battle for dominance of the treetops.
Bush babies bounce over the tents at night, and a leopard walks through the camp during the day to do her own inspections.
Our small 8-bed camp is everything we have envisioned since Dereck drew plans in the sand when the project started just seven months ago.
This is a camp where you can live in the trees, branches, and leaves, surrounded by birds and monkeys. Walk on curved walkways winding in amongst giant ebony trees. The family of hippos below welcomed their own toto a few days ago.
During the day, our guests are now exploring the migration, enjoying sightings of lions, cheetahs, and a rare black rhino wandering past this week.
Everything is fresh and exciting and quiet at last.
Dereck congratulates the entire team of nearly 100 engineers and craftsmen who helped through floods and riots, allowing us to say, “Mara Toto Tree Camp lives...”

Just Beautiful! These videos are so beautifully made! As you watch, you can almost feel the air. You watch the animals going about their business free from the fear of man and the camp fits into the environment allowing you to be part of the experience. Thank You! These will tide me over until I am there to enjoy this beautiful place!
