Like I said I learned this riff early. It just came to me though I knew that riff for years before I ever heard the song. Someone showed it to me and I guess I was playing it right at least ha ha.
Ricky Nelson's version of Summertime was the first time I heard the riff and that was in 1962. I had to check on line, but the Blues Magoos song wasn't released until 1966.
Black Night is not from In Rock! It was released as a single and added later on to a re-issue In Rock album. I am looking at an album I bought in 73 or 74 when I was 11 or 12.
Simple and effective. This riff should be accessible to a number of players and, with this lesson, very easy to learn. Another great one!
Love this song and very nice tutorial. He borrowed the riff from summertime from the 60s.

One of the first riffs I ever learned.
Along with Mandrake Root? Is that what it’s called?
Yes that trill on the D string is a little tricky. 😯😅
BAD ASS!!!!!
Formidable
Huh, apparently I've been playing it wrong for 30+ years. Learning it properly will be fun as beans!
