    Great info on drawing/painting mediums. Drawing materials go beyond the classic pencil. ✏️

    I've been going to academic art lessons for around a month now, and one of my favorite things there is this sharpening tool. You use the exacto-knife to take of the wood and then you take a light block of wood that has sanding paper stapled on it and you just sharpen the pencil using the sanding paper. It's quick and you can get a variety of tips, from perfectly horizontal, to a very sharp point.

    Why can’t oil pastel, charcoal, conte be an end in and of themselves, rather than a stepping stone to paint? Is there even such a thing in the art world? Why or why not? I have wondered this for 20 years. I LOVE these mediums, and find such pleasure in using them and in the aesthetic quality of the finished product. When I move on to paints, I lose my joy.

      Years ago, I was told coloured pencil was not a "valid" medium for art. Now I am older, and hopefully wiser, I now have the courage to say bollocks! You stick to your guns and go on making beautiful art that you enjoy! If you are happy with your finished work and are pleased with it, that’s what matters. Don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise! 😁

    Do you know if its true that hairspray as a fixative can yellow the paper over time but dedicated art fixatives dont?

    • @artprof
      @artprof  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes hairspray yellows as it ages. You'll want to check art fixatives to make sure they are archival and non-yellowing. -Lauryn, Art Prof Teaching Artist

    The difference between water soluble and not water soluble crayons is that the former must never be given to a toddler, as it dissolves when thrown in a fish tank...
