First in Flight Mobile | Charlotte Douglas Intl Airport

The "First in Flight" mobile, by artist George Greenamyer, is located in the atrium. The kinetic sculpture rises 22 feet tall and is 26 feet in diameter. It is made from steel except for the airplanes which are aluminum. The sculpture features 16 flying machines. Each flying machine ranges in size from three to four feet and continuously circles the clock tower.
