Yup i was like why are people surprised, i was like hey look at italy trying to protect its workers, but all we talk anout is the unit cost, the manufacturer is trying to turn a profit on unit price, so if this is dior, how much does a coach bag cost. If we didn't care about the name, we would all have unbranded merch
EXACTLY!!! The protection of its workers is definitely a conversation and an important topic, but unit cost complaints are (IMO) ridiculous! Every business has a goal to turn a profit. When you enter the luxury market, its goal is to turn an even larger profit. It’s business!
😬The main issue is that workers arent being paid fairly while working under unsafe conditions. If Dior had a 2000% markup because all of their workers were being treated and paid fairly, I wouldnt care. But to find out that they have a 2000% markup AND they're ripping off/.istreating their workers is blood-boiling.
I agree. It's disgusting, but one would have to know everything about every product one buys. In all commercialism an animal or human suffers - in everything. It's sad, but we can't just say it's only Dior, because it's not.
@totesgene While you're right that commercialism is terrible, we still can't allow companies to get away their individual bad practices when they are fully capable of doing better. (If we used this logic, we would NEVER hold anyone accountable of anything ever. Imagine saying that because humans are naturally flawed, you won't cut off a friend when you find out they're secretly sabatoging you? Like, yes, people can suck, but that doesn't excuse the friend's actions.)
🙏 I’m so sick of hearing about Dior it’s like I’ve been saying cancel culture is out of control if we keep canceling anyone with a skeleton in the closet we won’t have anyone left to buy from and absolutely correct sis you don’t go into business to get by you go into business to clean up lowest bidder wins it’s the nature of the game love the truck chronicles 💚💚💚
@@RakeedahsCloset it's worst because some people use these issues to have an air of ' I am hollier than you' because I found out about Dior having a huge markup. I mean, I bought a Dior saddle bag right when people were getting rid of theirs when Galliano made his 'comments' but I am still flexing that bag, coz it's a cool design.
People must speak with their dollars (and, to a lesser extent, with their perception of companies). Unfortunately, while it can sometimes go awry, "cancel culture" is the only efficient means of effecting changing.
Preach girl, preach!! Seriously, where do people think Bernard Arnault's $200BILLION net worth came from?!!? NGL, the biggest surprise to me was that the book tote cost as much as $57 to create. Up to that point, i thought it was about $10 in construction/materials (leaving aside the working conditions sitch, and the fact we don't 100% know it's the book tote that is being referenced).
The phrase “quiet luxury” should be banned forever, Rakeedah. Even folks who say they like quiet luxury handbags are still thinking “if you know, you know” and are getting satisfaction from other luxury people who know. Just saying’ it for the people in the back of the room, lol!
OMG YES!!! They really think they are fooling people with the fake humbleness 🙄 If people know luxury brands, then they know. The quiet luxury folks know that they know 🤣🤣🤣
Exactly. Where is the shocker. However, I don't think it's as low as $57 to make a Book Tote. Well, allegedly the Book Tote because the bag in question has never been disclosed. But, only 2 parts of the manufacturing process are likely made in that factor, with the remainder made outside of Italy. So those 2 parts cost $57, not the entire bag. However, I doubt it costs more than $100/$150 in total. It's no surpise. Everything has a massive markup. I doubt our LV canvas bags cost more than $100/$150 to make. I doubt Birkin's cost more than a few hundred dollars.
We ALL knew the markups exist. At least I thought we did😂?! Where has everyone been???!! We knew this! The bag they were talking about is discontinued as well so I suspect it isn’t the book tote. However, I know they outsource and I think it was just a careless oversight and a failure for them to do their due diligence in selecting a factory. Bags like the lady Dior are handcrafted it seems so idk what bag jt could’ve been. Lots of moving parts to these sorts of thing! A friend of mine, Kendall Miles, a black shoe designer (check her out btw) goes to the factories herself to check the conditions and sometimes they start out well, then take a turn for the worst and she has had to switch before! I think Dior just got too comfortable in using a certain factory and assuming they wouldn’t switch up and get greedy + ruthless🤷🏽♀️. That’s my 2 cents though!!
Oh that makes sense!!! Dior still has to take accountability, but I can see how oversight might slow down if you have been using the same factory for an extended period of time! Definitely checking her out! Love how she checks the factories out on her own!
1000% giiirl business owners especially when it comes to LUXURY are in it to make money…… and yes of course we buy luxury to flex. I went to school to be a nurse and make money and I will spend how I want 😂😂 Like you said the employee environment is a different TOPIC.
"...and yes of course we buy luxury to flex." *So, question: If absolutely no one in the world except you knew your luxury items were considered "luxury", would you still have bought them? 🤔
I’m not surprised about the cost to manufacture and the markup of the product! I think what’s glaring is the deplorable working conditions, the wages and the under age children that was glaring for me. Consumer awareness is at an all time high so these fashion houses would be better served to clean up the work environment and not traffic in these exploitative working conditions! Business green at some point can and will be a business downfall! TFS 😊❤

Completely understand! That would change the game for me too
My issue is with the working conditions.
It’s disgusting
Can’t separate dior name from a sweatshop
Mines too!! I agree. Now working conditions allegations are hard to “unsee”

With flexing though - 99+% of people don't even notice what bags we are carrying. I never noticed what bags people were carrying until I got into it.

She spittin’💯💯💯
❤️❤️
Well said. I’ve not heard anyone else making those points
Thank you friend 🥰
Best truck chronicles yet!
Thank you beautiful ❤️❤️

I was really surprised that folks were made it only cost $57. Sometimes I think people think businesses operate for fun
Hello Rakeedah, thank you for sharing your perspective, always calling a spade a spade. A lot of what you just said is so true.
Thank you Grace ❤️❤️
“They aren’t trying to make ends meet… they are trying to be in Forbes.” Don’t hurt them with the truth, Rakeedah 😂
I’m trying friend. I’m trying 🤣🤣🤣🤣

We all know about the mark up across all brands....hence why I buy mostly preloved and save thousands sometimes!!!
Exactly!! With the exception of the working conditions, I’m not sure why this was breaking news 🤷🏾♀️
Agree not a shocker. That’s luxury goods and business 😂😂. Now I wish they’d only make up 50% but that’s not reality haha 😂
We all WISH that, but it’s not looking good for us 🤣🤣🤣

Yup!!! Every product only cost a small fraction of what we pay for it in the store/online. Luxury items will NEVER be the exception.
