I play this game every once In awhile. I can trace back my obsession and love of this game since 1998. My aunt bought me the royal collection from Costco. I still have the set to this day that includes lords 1 & 2 and royal edition expansion for lords 2. I own a technology company and I often have my techs join me in a lan game of 4 people playing this game on Fridays. This game has far too many memories for me. The music, the voices, the campaigns, sounds and music... it all comes into fruition of the ultimate nostalgia flash back that just feels good to the bones. Enjoy!
I feel exactly the same, the atmosphere, music, video clips, the actors voices, everything! Was obsessed with the game in 97/98 and have revisited many times over the years. Other hobbies include painting medieval miniatures and reading history and often listen to the Lords 2 soundtrack whilst doing these.
@@marioszafiris1393 the atmosphere and soundtrack of this game hits nostalgia to the core. When I’m reading medieval history of any sort, I play the scroll music or soundtrack when you first start a new game. When I think of medieval times of think of Lords 2 and it’s soundtrack embedded on it. My best friend and I have custom engraved a long sword with our initials and honoring Lords of the Realm 2.
@Victor Arenas I'm sorry, it's been a long time since then and I am no longer in contact and so I can't give you the precise how to. I do remember it maybe had to do with emulators...? Maybe? I'm sure at this point Google or forums would be a bigger help than I am
Yesterday the bishop had annexed almost all the country and I had one county and he kept sending armies to siege my castle, but I noticed there was only one county connecting all his lands and that he had a complete but empty castle in it. I had a surplus of crowns and bought tons of food and despatched it to that county and then took it with an army and tripled the rations of the sick villagers to make them compliant. Then I took the vacated counties, also with ready castles. He was gutted.
ELITE!!! This was probably THE best game ever for PC. It was the first game I ever played on my first computer. I still have this game installed on my PC and Laptop! When I am bored, I will play this game for hours on end! This game was well ahead of its time.
This game really needs to be remade. I know lords3 was a flop but this game has so much potential to be very well made for today. We really need a good medieval game and though there are others, lords2 was a very good game and the environment, music and overall touch of the game was made to carry into a child or adults mind for years to come. The game had a few flaws but hardly a flaw back in the mid 90s. We need a remake!
soooo many memories, i just found this game today again, i lost it a long time ago, it doesn't work on new computers, so this just brought back a gunshot to the head of memories, thanks, i love that game.
I remember playing this as a child and I would literally never care to feed my people or farm or anything having to do with that. Sometimes I'd lose a province for neglecting them lol. When I would play this game, I would just focus on military tactics, conquering my enemies one by one as my armies grew. Sometimes I'd win, sometimes I'd lose.
Raymond Rojas then you would’ve been done really bad back in 1200s if you were an actual medieval lord lol! I started playing the game that way until I realized I need to feed people in order to advance each turn and produce food, materials and weapons and conquer another county. In all essence, this literally was the intent of the medieval period. Lust for power and leaders neglected the lower class lol
BunzNammo haha u seem like a political scientist talking like that. But remember, it's just a game. And like I said, sometimes I'd win by just focusing on military conquests. 👍🏻
i used to play this game for hours and hours and never got bored :D this should be the best strategy game after starcraft. there is nothing like defending a royal castle! or taking it with a bunch of peasants,1 catapult and a ram :D
I wasn't able to play this game for about a decade, despite attempting lots of times to load it onto various computers ... and then, a few days ago, after ages and having almost forgotten about it, I clicked on the icon on a computer to which I'd previously loaded it without success ... and, as if by magic, it worked ! And now I've been staying up playing it into the early hours of the morning.
lords of the realm 2, that game is so brilliant my mind just starts racing every time i think about it, if only someone made a remake, meh even extra maps for the old game would get me back to it :)
gog.com sells it for 5.99, includes the expansion pack and LR1, once purchased you can download it onto any computer as long as you have the gog installer on it. It plays well on my Windows 8 computer. Been through XP, Vista and 7 with this. Amazing game! I remember being a little girl watching my dad play it.
The soundtrack for LOTR2 is hands down one of the best of all times. To all who say they can't play it on Vista: download yourself some DOS emulator program (DOSBox seems to be the best one at the moment). It might be a bit tricky to set it up properly, but hey, you grew up in DOS era, it should be a piece of cake to you.
This is such a great game. I wish they would update and rerelease it. Thankfully, I bought it and the expansion pack after I graduated and I still have them. I need to put this on my computer and play it some more.
i think i spend around 100 or 200 hours of my life with this game between 96 and 2000... and it was around 2000 as i gave up playing computer games i guess.. but this game is still kinda cult for me and i still own it :))
Ever notice how this game emulates life: once your population becomes too large and you can't feed them, raise an army and send to them to war. If they win, your lands increase, if they lose you don't have to feed them or pay them. It's win/win, except for the poor people of course!
@serkanvai I love this game... Even if the combat is sickly outdated, the management aspect of the game still functions just fine, and it's a great retreat from the complexity of today's games
this wasn't just the best RTS ever, this was the best game ever(in my opinion). although warcraft and starcraft were pretty fun, too. this series pretty much died after this game, which is really sad. i didn't even bother with lords III - it looked so stupid.
I love this game; indeed, I still play it! It's obviously outdated graphics-wise, and the AI often isn't too sharp, but I enjoy it even so. LOTR2 has a good sense of humor, and has always felt very atmospheric to me.
..This game was way above the standards of its time..Well,it's unpossible to get it to run on an 32/64-Bit system though..I hope, that there will be a successor someday..Except of the unbelievable bad ,,Lords of the realm 3´´ ;/
Lords of the Realm 2 had, apart from the great competition characters who you could interact with through bribes, flattery or piss off with war-waging campaings, such a good organization set-up! Although Knights & Merchants took those micro-organizing skills to a very profound level, LOTR2 maps were more appeasing (to me). Also, you needed to invade and add boundaries and manage more armies and foodstocks over time as you conquered more. The battle mini-games were fun but lacked troop details
My dad used to play this all the time; he's a total strategy game buff. It wasn't long before this game ceased to be a challenge to him, and he was playing on impossible difficulty! (Which probably isn't that impossible, if someone can actually beat it.) I always got swamped because I wasn't paying attention to what I was supposed to. I don't think I'm really cut out for strategy games.
I must have watched this movie a thousand times years ago. This is the best RTS ever. Period. I imagine with real orchestra and better graphics, 1:26-1:31 would be chilling. It was in it's day.
The Windows version of Lords ran fine for me as well in XP in "W95 compatibility mode". Animation speed issue can be fixed by simply turning the speed down in-game. Those who hated LOTR3 (and I can't blame them) should try "Knights of Honor". It could be called LOTR4 if it wasn't for the american voices throughout the game (sorry, but america did not exist in medieval times, so this just didn't seem right to me). It is what Heroes of Might and Magic III was for the original "Heroes".
Oh, that's interesting. I definitely like the turn based strategy games. For those of you having problems getting this game to work, go to the Sierra forums. lords2 is for me the best that lords3, 3 struggles do not stop the screen administration, fight and then change everything with the enemy across counties until 2 because you did not see, has changed for worse.
@popgoesthewesel13 That is odd. I just got a new comp also and it worked perfectly on it. A few years back I also played it on a laptop (Dell I think) and it also worked fine. Perhaps its the disc.
This game, along with Civilization 2 and 4 were seriously the best games on the PC. I dunno, I never really took to the total war series. Just didnt have the same charm as LOTR2
@Edoric85 what are you playing it on? i have the old cd but tried to lod it on my laptop hoping it would work on a new computer and never got anywhere with it
This game is still No.1 imo great memories indeed, even though Ai was at times disappointing. Whos up to getting Owned?! LoL (challange even possible now?) Should have a LotR2 tournie, would be fun.
I love the part when the farmer raised the sickle and it changes into a knight's sword.

Absolutely. No frills. Just remaster it. Those gregorian chants hit pretty hard.
❤️ this game.

I remember playing this game as a child and I would literally never care to feed or water myself. So many hours engulfed in medieval England!
You'd be a great politician today !
In the 1200s lords had to actually pay their amies with food and gold, not with fake paper money.
