    EDIT: I FINALLY got redemption on this run and skied it 100x better. Consider this video beyond outdated, I'm embarrassed of its existence. Please please go watch this new one instead: th-cam.com/video/aMo27ZQucyU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=f64VzQTmsjLan2Yd

      Commend you on your positive reinforcement as youre going down, telling yourself "good" and "thats better". Way to push yourself!

      @@PrivateNeven Sorry for the late response man, but I really appreciate! I was so nervous going down something this steep at the time that I was super pleased whenever I did something semi-decent. I recently reattempted this run and skied it 100x better. Despite being a much better skier, I was shocked how insanely steep this was for me even all these years later! I was definitely way outta my league at the time of this video but hey, that's how you learn and get better! :)

    Nice video! This steep stuff is really more about commitment than anything else. You gotta be willing to commit to the jump turn, and keep your weight centered even though it’s easy to want to lean back. The edges catch and that’s what shows you down, so as long as you work on edge control you got this! Can’t wait to hit “The Y” myself, been loving Mott so far this season!

      Thanks for the tips, I really appreciate that! The "Y" is a great run and probably the most challenging in Mott, you're gonna love it!

    Is Tahoe your home ski area? We should get in some runs one day bro, it's rare to see other Indian guys tackling the steeps. I'll be at Kirkwood and Palisades all season

    Mott Canyon was known as the beast of heavenly when I was a kid growing up in heavenly 40 years ago. Sounds like nothing has changed.

    • @arjunski
      @arjunski  ปีที่แล้ว

      I love that Moniker! It's so fitting for this gnarly and underrated area! This specific run is definitely the crown jewel of "the beast" then, it's super steep!

    This looks crazy! I can't imagine how scary Rambo is.

    • @arjunski
      @arjunski  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This one was really intimidating for me at the time! Rambo is definitely on the list to do at some point but man that thing is scary. Might be roughly the same pitch (steeper perhaps) but it's wayyyy more littered with obstacles. One day for sure! :)

  • @ST19859
    @ST19859 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you think this was sketchy (and it is) you should check the chutes at mount rose. If I recall correctly several of them are steeper and much longer than Mott

    • @arjunski
      @arjunski  ปีที่แล้ว

      I 100% intended to go check out The Chutes at some point! I've heard those even rival the hardest chutes in Killebrew Canyon which makes me feel that I need to get slightly better before I'm ready to do those!

    • @ST19859
      @ST19859 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@arjunski They vary, some are just black diamonds with more exposure and obstacles. Several definitely rival anything at Heavenly. The hardest part is the fact that they are sustained at that pitch for so long. Usually runs at 40+ degrees only maintain that for a short distance but they keep it up for quite a ways

    The “Y” as in “why” are you doing it? Reminds me of the blacks at Sierra at Tahoe like Dynamite and Preachers Passion. Not pretty, but you get down the mountain!

    • @arjunski
      @arjunski  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, The "Y" is one of the runs in this area. During this video, I was just learning how to ski steeper runs. In my most recent videos, you'll see that I've improved a good bit from this date

    • @arjunski
      @arjunski  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, a quick note. This is significantly more challenging than anything that Sierra has to offer including anything in Huckleberry Canyon. Not terrain to be taken lightly or to be compared to mere single black diamonds at a generally easier resort. The GoPro does tend to make runs look significantly less steep FYI.

    • @dwizzle8405
      @dwizzle8405 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is way steeper than dynamite and preachers. Not even comparable.

      Bruh dynamite and preacher's passion are not difficult at all. Very easy single black diamonds... The stuff at Kirkwood, palisades, heavenly and other big boy resorts don't compare to Sierra

  • @ashylarry4867
    @ashylarry4867 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I looked at the cornice to the right of the Y sign and said nope! I took the easier route to the left of the sign. Have you entered the easier way? How does it compare?

    • @arjunski
      @arjunski  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, I've only had the chance to do this run once so I don't really know how they compare! My guess is that even if you've done the easier entrance, the fact that you were able to get down the rest of the run means that you could probably, on a good day, certainly attempt the main cornice entrance!

  • @yup8895

    How much steeper is the Y than Widowmaker (gate 1 at Mott)? I've been on the latter and would like to try the Y on my next trip.

    • @arjunski
      @arjunski  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have personally not done Widowmaker, but I've done Snake Eyes, which is next to Widowmaker. In my opinion, The "Y" is the hardest run in Mott Canyon and is more difficult than any other run in the canyon. For me, the difficulty spike from Snake Eyes to The "Y" was a pretty big! Make sure you can do Jump Turns proficiently, they're needed on The "Y" and not on runs like Snake Eyes (and I assume, Widowmaker). If you want a numeric metric, Widow Maker is around 39 degrees whereas The "Y" is around 41 degrees. Though The "Y" does feel a good bit steeper, the numbers don't do it justice! Hopefully this helps!

    • @Eddie-sv8xc
      @Eddie-sv8xc ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@arjunski Yeah I can see Snake Eyes from Widowmaker and they appear about similar level of difficulty. I did check the FATMAP and saw that the incline difference between the Y and Widowmaker didn't seem like much, but your video makes the Y look like another full level up from Widowmaker . I'll probably try it before the end of the season but I'll definitely wait for a powder day and hone my jump turns in the interim. Thanks for the insight!

      Right!? I don't think I've ever been to a ski resort that has a desert basin as a view. If you're at the right place at the right time, my favorite view of Heavenly is on top of Tamarack Express where you get a view of Lake Tahoe and the desert in one frame!

      This chute was super intimidating just like Lower Chamonix. Much much harder, longer, and slightly steeper in my opinion, but in some sense, this is what Lower Chamonix would look like if it was a much longer run! :)

      I was finally able to do proper jump turns on a run (E.S.P of The Six Senses at Breckenridge) which is exactly 40 degrees according to Fatmap.com. Definitely need to slowly start upping the steepness of the run. The run in this video is 41 degrees so I really want to go back and try it again!
