Thankyou for your efforts in bringing a bit of the pre season Swale into South Wales. Very nice to see all those Barbel spawning & the countryside that comes along with it all. It was a absolute breath of fresh air.
That was fantastic Tom, really enjoyed the footage. It just reminds me why we have a closed season to allow those fish to spawn in peace. Tight lines for the season, keep us all up to date on your progress. all the best Jason
Brilliant Tom some huge barbel showing at Topcliffe. Didn't join this year because travelling down was a nightmare on the A1 last season going to try my luck on the Tees for barbel. All the best for the forthcoming season and tight lines. Regards Paul.
Looking forward to getting out on the Swale myself Tom will be cundall on the Sunday the 19th for a short evening session after the tidal Trent on the 16th all the best for the new season
Great video Sir, I really like your enthusiasm and appreciation for what we enjoy. Please pass on to your fans that we are having a battle with poachers who are taking these beautiful fish from the river- you may have noticed the increased security and Anti-poaching signs near the bridge. 4 arrested this week by NY Police after these fish - They are there for all us anglers to enjoy, as you know they move up and down the river so it's in all our interests to preserve these fish.Like the sales..once they're gone, they're gone!
I am pleased that the poachers have been apprehended. It is difficult to understand why they would take chub and barbel which taste dreadful I understand. When the new season begins there will be many more anglers about and we are very aware of unfamiliar faces and vehicles. It would help if Topcliffe PC policed their two pegs more effectively as they are repeatedly poached almost every week by the same people.
Completely agree Tom re Topcliffe PC, but as you rightly say there will be a lot more people about after next week, and we will be taking a far more proactive approach to poachers. Also agree re the culinary merits of chub but they have been seen hauling out on heavy tackle from the bridge. There were some sizable salmon under the bridge a few weeks ago which was great to see but probably didn't help with the poachers.Best of luck for the coming season and look forward to seeing your exploits
I fished at the weir once and caught some barbel but I won't be going back. A group of local kids spent half an hour throwing stones into my swim then guy turned up with an air rifle and started shooting at me from the opposite bank. Not an enjoyable experience.

I'm sorry to hear of your unpleasant experience. I have fished there for twenty years and it has always been very pleasant.
good afternoon tom, has any fish been coming out on the swale at topcliffe or asenby areas ? cheers
Hi Keith. The odd one or two. We need some fresh water.
are you using a polarising filter here tom?
No. Just a UV filter mainly to protect the camera lens.
