I haven’t experienced AppleTV issues with my Marantz SR7015, but I have dealt with video switching issues intermittently, yes. Granted, my SR7015 is unfortunately from the era of the defective HDMI 2.1 chips, so I imagine that’s why I have issues from time to time. But my buddy Techno Dad reviewed the Marantz AV10 preamp and said he would sometimes get video switching issues even with that unit. 🤷♂️

Great video! I really enjoy your content, in this video specifically, I enjoyed your explanation of the various audio formats. I have the Onkyo RZ50 as part of a 5.1.4 system that is set up in my living room. It would be nice to understand what audio format is best to use when watching broadcast TV, streaming services in 5.1 or 2.0 stereo etc. The RZ50 offers several audio format options but I just stick with up-mixing to DD surround. I'm assuming most people don't have dedicated Home Theater spaces where everything they watch is in Atmos. A short video from you on this topic, could really help a lot of people and specifically me. Thanks!
I bought the SR8015 in November. I called Marantz and multiple retailers before I did so I could ensure I didn't end up with fewer features and/or power. Everyone said no, the SR8015 is not being replaced so you'll be fine buying it. It seemed like a lie, but because it was just before Christmas when things sell and many things are released I felt okay about it. But more power to cover MartinLogan's would be nice... so perhaps it will serve as a pre-amp soon.
Yeah, man. Easiest way to upgrade is to add external amps. That’s what I did with my Cinema 70S since its power rating is a measly 50 watts per channel. 💪
@@Osuna.. If you want the possibility of having a 7.4.4 immersive audio configuration someday, I'd go with the Cinema 50. Otherwise, if an eventual 5.2.2 system is large enough, and you're mainly listening to music also, the Cinema70S is spectacular, especially since you can add external amps later on if need more power for larger speakers.
Gracias por contestar. Creo que con el cinema 70s y mi Marantz 40n, sería perfecto para películas y música. Ya tienes otro suscriptor. Un saludo desde Madrid.
I have the Cinema 40 and using 2 channels from my Marantz SR7012 from the Cinema 40 pre-outs for the extra 2 channels (Rear height channels) with 4x12" SVS Subs (7.4.4 system). I'm good with the Cinema 40 for years to come. Yes, the Cinema 40 has 4x subs as well, all independent. I don't have the room in my living room for the extra speakers this Cinema 30 has so it wouldn't make any sense for me to upgrade apart from 15 watts RMS extra power which isn't a reason for me unless there was more power than that.
Lol, I went a different route. I have the Denon 4800h fully powered 7 channels by the Marantz SR8002. However, the music from the 8002 is infinitely better than the 4800h probably because of Audyssey XT32 doing crazy things unlike Audyssey Mult-Eq. I have to do some major surgery on the curve to see if the 4800h is capable of sonic excellence. I fixed some of it but it's still 1-2 seconds behind in a 100m dash.
The Cinema 30 is going to sound quite a bit better than the 40. I have both the 7015 and 8015 on which they are based. Not saying you should upgrade, just that there is more than channel count or power at play. I'd say the 8015 sounds about 30% better than the 7015. Most noticeable in the highs which sound more concise and better channel separation.
@@bearclaw5115 But the guys at ASR will tell you they sound the same.😀 I agree with you but room correction is probably the #1 featue of sound nowadays.
Heck, I struggle to justify upgrading to either of these. Still have my SR8012 going strong running a 7.2.4 system with bed layer speakers amped up w/ Emo XPA 7 and only the Atmos overheads powered by the Marantz. I do use the 7.1 pre-in connected to my Oppo 105 for analogue audio music and HDMI for movies (also have a Sony 4k Bluray player via HDMI). I've really seen no reason to upgrade my now dated* receiver. RC is done using REW and also have a few Audessy back ups stored and everything works and sounds flawless. What am I missing that could justify spending upwards of $4.5k+ I'll admit, I have considered moving to a Pre-Pro to have the ability to use XLR inputs but even that would bring negligible gains. 🤔
Yeah, man…you’ve built a fantastic system already. But moving to a pre/pro would be the next step, if anything. It really does make a difference, IMO. But no rush on that. 😁
@@ealanosborne Thanks, Man! I've been debating picking up an 8805A or even a 7706 on closeout for several months now that they can be had for less than half of what a new flagship Marantz receiver goes for now. The temptation is real. 😄
They seem to have many typos or just oddities that dont match up. They state no Analog to HDMI converstion in one spot, but then where your head was covering up, it states yes. And it would HAVE to be yes. Otherwise, how does having analog video inputs with no outs work?
I've been watching these videos too try and get an answer too a problem I'm having. I have an Sony HP-810 that I got from my grandparents when they passed away and I would like too replace the receiver/radio/turntable unit inside of it. However, when I plug the two ss-810 speakers that are in the cabinet into anything other than the original receiver, the speakers never actually turn on. they are rca, and they have a wall plug which made me think they were active, but they don't have a switch, they just come on when plugged into the original receiver. I have no idea what the deal is, so I figured I would leave a comment on a more recent video too see if I could get some help.
Since they are vintage speakers, they may work solely with the HP-810 since they aren’t connected by speaker wire. I haven’t been able to find detailed specs since they are so vintage. 🤷♂️
I use my tuner as well as a turntable with MM cartridge. A point you didn’t touch on but is important is that the Cinema 30 is actually made in Japan. That usually means quality and is a big selling point. I will however be getting the SR 8015 just because I think it’s money better spent.
i thought by buying the sr-6014 with all of the speaker hook ups it would sufice all my speakers ,and atmos would work just fine but i guess not ?? now the 8015 by itself should be ok without my 2 channel amp then ??
I got the Marantz SR8015 below 2k new and the Denon AVR-X6700H from Best Buy for $1,500 on a limited sale during X-Mas, I was very lucky since that lasted for 1 week until they ran out. Both have the same specs and power. The Denon is a little bit slender than the SR8015. There isn't that much difference other than the on screen blue and orange color on the GUI.
I’d still go with either Marantz option. If you need Dirac Live (as an added expense) and up to 4 subwoofers, Cinema 30. If you’re fine with 2 subwoofers and don’t need Dirac Live, SR8015. 👍
It’ll go very well, actually, since newer Onkyo AVRs have “Klipsch Optimize Mode” which takes advantage of Klipsch’s sonic characteristics and makes them seamlessly integrate into the AVR. In the link below, scroll down a little to read more about the Klipsch Optimize feature. 😊👇 onkyousa.com/receivers/av-receivers/tx-rz50
Thank you for the video, this just confirms I made the correct decision on my purchase, a couple of weeks ago in Australia the Marantz SR8015’s where on sale at $1,300 off the RRP, I bought one and have the front 3 channels running through an Emotiva XPA Gen 3, 3 Channel Amplifier, a bit much for my 30 year old front speakers which I plan to replace, probably POLK R700’s (Still researching). I do have a question if anyone has an answer, I purchased the Audyssey Editor app which I am still playing around with, I have 2 Presets, Preset 1 - running 7.1 (Movies,) Preset 2 - 3 Channels (Music) but when I change the AMP setting to run in Pre Amp mode it greys out the Audyssey setting, does this mean you cannot run Audyssey in Pre Amp mode?
It’s kinda silly but Audyssey will grey itself out if you change anything in the amp assign or speaker config settings. Anytime you change the settings in those menus, you have to rerun Audyssey. Isn’t that ridiculous?
Like you, I recently got the Marantz SR8015, and am also using an EMOTIVA XPA-3 Gen 3. What an awesome pair! The emo drives my front stage Martin Logan’s. Love it. Congratulations from Texas!
I've been thinking about buying the marantz 8015, already have the denon 3700 and I'm maxd out in my gaf at 5.2.4 . Do you think I will notice an upgrade in sound quality? ? I listen at -25 and that's blasting.. just looks nice and will only cost me £1000 (trade in offer) what to do , what to do ?
Nah. If 5.2.4 is your max configuration, you’ll do fine with the X3700H. Even if you upgrade your speakers at some point and want more power, you’re still good with adding external amps instead of buying a new AVR all together. The only reason you might wanna upgrade is if you find a way to incorporate 4 subwoofers at some point in the future.

Of course the 8015 is gonna sound better than the 3700. It's got better dacs, parts quality all throughout the preamp, it's got a ch per ch preamp mode, more power, etc

Isn’t the SR8015 a Marantz TOP Tier receiver of maybe two years ago? Not even the Cinema40 compares to it. The Cinema50 certainly is mid-tier. I think the company’s most recently released receiver is more comparable to the 8015?
@@marvinabugov4579 The Cinema 30 IS the most recently released AVR, and is their flagship. The numbers goes down, not up. Cinema 70s is their lowest tier, then Cinema 60, 50, 40 and now 30.

Yes, you can power a 7.2.4 system WITHOUT an extra 2-channel amp using the SR8015. WITH an external amp, the SR8015 can support a 9.2.4 system, if that’s something you might want in the future. 👍
Honestly if you need multi subs you should be getting a miniDSP. I run my .3 as one virtual sub through the miniDSP and it was a game changer with bass.
If you get a chance, it'd be great if you did a video comparing the Marantz Cinema 30 ($4,500) and the Denon AVR-X6800H ($3,499) which have very similar features and power. The main difference is the price, size, and weight. Crutchfield has them both for sale.
I wonder what dacs they used. I bought the 3800 and I can tell you for music it was a downgrade from me. I went back to a Denon 4500 with an akm dac. I found the music lacking and fatiguing.. with the same equipment and same Audyssey settings. I think the Sr 8015 probably had ess dacs ..and the 30 probably had them as well. I think if I wanted a good sounding Denon, I would have to got with the 6800 or the 30...sorry Marantz..they are the same product.
Video spent more time talking about number of composite inputs/outputs than about Dirac Live & Dirac Bass Control, although its a core functionality for home theater and audible difference compared to Audyssey. Also it doesnt talk about SR8015 (later builds after AK factory fire) having TI DACs, while Cinema 30 has ESS DACs.
When you talk about movies vs music as a comparison point for AVRs, should I assume 'music' strong options are also better for movie soundtracks? I will primarily be watching movies/tv, but I care more about how John Williams sounds than about channel separation.
Eh, yes and no. Marantz in particular tends to have a warmer sound (not as bright or forward with high frequencies), which most typically like better when listening to music, especially analog sources like a turntable. But it also has to do with listening to 2-channel music. Again, Marantz’s internal components lean towards a richer musical reproduction when playing through the front Left & Right speakers, as well as having the “pure” audio setting which disables any internal audio processing and lets the pure musical sound to pass through to the speakers from a turntable or CD player. With that being said, though, I would trust you’d enjoy John Williams coming out of a Marantz rather than an Onkyo, for example. 🤷♂️
@ealanosborne Thanks for the response and info! Sadly, Marantz is outside of my budget. I'm looking at under $750, so Sony AN1000, Onkyo NR6100/6050, Denon S760H, Pioneer VSX935. Do any stand out (good or bad) on the music delivery in movies (5.1.2 or 7.1)?
@@LearningtoDoThings Sony or Pioneer are going to be your best bet. Onkyo/Pioneer/Integra are all under the same umbrella company, and Pioneer is their more musical leaning brand. 👍
Good video sucks Marantz get so close but drop the ball in the end. Everyone should wonder why won't Marantz tell me what ess chip they used and why only one. Also u are correct about those xlr jacks. I was hoping they would have xlr on a $4500 avr but it just shows i got the correct unit for me. Integra Drx 8.4 sounds amazing and has everything i need. Dual ess chips, xlr, amazing power, dirac live.
So is this worth it for an upgrade? Instead of the cinema 30 or the 8015? I love my movies and gaming would this drx 8.4 be worth it for these? I would be upgrading from a marantz sr5015 and I use svs speakers.
@@DarkWilSin666I think the DRX-8.4 would be worth it if you're wanting to get serious about home theater. It'll last you MANY years to come and still accommodate any upgrades you might do in the future with more powerful speakers, using external amps, etc.

Using the 7.1 inputs, I can use a reciever as a power amp. So when my 8015 gets too out of date, I can change it to amp duty and use those inputs. A shame they are gone on the new $4500 model Also with gaming I'd be concernned about added latency with the Cinema 30 upconverting everything to HDMI. Only an issue if you use analog video tho
Great video. Thanks for the comparison. I have no interest in Dirac nor 4 subs. Amazon recently had a lightning deal on the Marantz SR8015 going for $2,124. I had over $400 in Amazon credits so I paid $1,724 for a new unit. It is replacing a one year old Sony STR-AZ5000ES. As far as dtsx enhanced is concerned I've only heard it once ( bad boys 4 life) it wasn't very good with my kit , and I'm sure will smiths voice was coming thru the subwoofer! That’s what I thought! When I saw the specs I thought, “That can’t be right.” Yet another typo or just a spec they didn’t update properly on their website. 🤷♂️
Looks like a hefty price increase over the Cinema 40 for just having two more channels. I'm more interested in the Cinema 50 for it's vaule but I won't pull the trigger on any of those new AVRs until Dirac ART is officially available and reviewed on these units.
From a 8015 to Cinema 30? IF you have 4+ subs and Dirac Live MultiSub it's 100% worth it ... I use a C50 with 4 subs and power amps and it sounds amazing ... But you need the DL FULL and MultiSUB upgrades and an UMIK-1 (not the UMIK-2)
This is the Elan I like. I wish you networked with Andrew Robinson. I don't care for the HEOS. I am not sure I care for Dirac. I wish you would go balls to the walls and show us how to use REW and the PEQ on your processor.
There is much more than just reading from a website... But thats what newbies do when they actually lack the knowledge about these audio hifi stuff.. You ofcourse miss the whole internal architecture changes... but hey.. When you know nothing...you can't say anything... Don't make comparisons when you omit half the information just to make one look great or bad..
The SR8015 does not include Dirac Support. The $4500 C30 guarantees me the option of spending an additional $1000+ on Dirac's multi-tier, Apple like, marketing and sales ecosystem. And don't forget the $140 calibration mic. I don't know about you guys, but it is a deal breaker for me if I don't have the option of spend a metric ton of money on my AVR after spending a metric ton of money on my AVR. If you are like me then the C30 is your only choice! In all seriousness. Other things to consider. 13 channels processing are only available with an external 2-channel, or more, amp. If you use all 13 binding posts, then you are committing to 11 channels of processing and a stereo Zone 1 configuration. I also heard a rumor that the C30 has some additional power saving features that the SR8015 does not. Specifically, I have read on different forums that the 8015 does not turn off unused amps when in mixed pre-amp/direct wired mode. The amps turn off only in pure pre-amp output mode. Meaning, you are using the 8015 as a processor only and are driving all speakers with external implication. I would like to see something official from Marantz regarding this. And finally, I do use my AVR for FM on a regular basis for background music or news/talk radio. I think 5 million streaming radio stations is overwhelming unless you already know exactly what you are looking for. Plus, most of the time, the stations stream at very low quality. Thus, in my opinion, making over-the-air FM superior.
I definitely do we have a great classical station, to NPR stations, one of which never plays music. I never watch debates or congress crap, listen to KQED 😊😊
Another option is the Denon 4800h on sale for $1,500. It's technically a Cinema 40 at 35% of the price give or take the looks and HDAMs. For most people it's going to be enough and with the savings, you can get external amplification and use the 4800h in pre-amp mode. If you want you can power some of the fake, sorry Atmos, channels which don't really need any power.

Thanks!
Awesome! That’s a great idea! And thanks for the kind words! 😊
Just choose the format, you find sound the best. There is no "best" format when upmixing...

Totally agree! If you want extra power at this point, all you need is more external amps, so there’s no real reason to get the Cinema 30. 🎉
@@ealanosborne external amp for 5 channels can be bought as single or as 3 and 2 seperately!?!
@@bearclaw5115 But the guys at ASR will tell you they sound the same.😀
I agree with you but room correction is probably the #1 featue of sound nowadays.
Whats is crazy is I have heard the Denon A1h go on sale for 30% off which puts it neck and neck with the Cinema 30.
Yeah, dude...Marantz can somehow get away with higher prices. 😩
What am I missing that could justify spending upwards of $4.5k+
I'll admit, I have considered moving to a Pre-Pro to have the ability to use XLR inputs but even that would bring negligible gains.
Hi, what external amp did you buy for it? I was after an external amp for my sr8012 to run my LCR. Would you say it made a difference? Thanks
@@amirulandsally12 I’m running Emotiva XPA 7 to power base layer channels and .4 Atmos channels are powered by Marantz.
Marantz SR8015 is built in Japan! Sorry, I should say was built in Japan!
i thought by buying the sr-6014 with all of the speaker hook ups it would sufice all my speakers ,and atmos would work just fine but i guess not ?? now the 8015 by itself should be ok without my 2 channel amp then ??
Correct. For a 7.2.4 system, the SR8015 will be able to power it by itself, no need for a 2-channel amp.
Hi, please help me, what choice's best! "Yamaha A8A New" - "Marantz Sr8015 New" or "Marantz Cinema 30 refurbished"?
I’d still go with either Marantz option. If you need Dirac Live (as an added expense) and up to 4 subwoofers, Cinema 30. If you’re fine with 2 subwoofers and don’t need Dirac Live, SR8015. 👍
I had hd598 beige. Used it for 9yrs.
Hello
How do you think will sound the Klipsch R-625fA 5.0 pack and 2 extra atmos pair to my Onkyo TX-RZ50? Planing to buy it
It’ll go very well, actually, since newer Onkyo AVRs have “Klipsch Optimize Mode” which takes advantage of Klipsch’s sonic characteristics and makes them seamlessly integrate into the AVR. In the link below, scroll down a little to read more about the Klipsch Optimize feature. 😊👇

I don’t know the last time I used an AM/FM tuner either. It has been years!
Right?! 😄

I’m good with my rz50 and parasound amp 😂 and saved 3250 bucks lol plus I’m only running a 3.1 right now ha
If you get a chance, it'd be great if you did a video comparing the Marantz Cinema 30 ($4,500) and the Denon AVR-X6800H ($3,499) which have very similar features and power. The main difference is the price, size, and weight. Crutchfield has them both for sale.
Sweet! Good idea! I’ll see what I can do! 😁
I just picked up 2 more Monolith 15" subs (4 total) so x.4 is a requirement for me now.
Whoooaaa! Those Monoliths are BEASTS!
Would this be a good upgrade form a Denon X1600H or a Cinema 50 would be more than enough?
If a 7.4.4 system is large enough for you (with the help of an external amp), the Cinema 50 should be plenty! 🎉
If you look at the internal pictures, The Cinema 50 is identical the the AVR-X3800H. The Cinema 40 is identical to the AVR-X4800H.

SR8015 is a way better deal unless you really want 4 subs. The SR8015 works as a Roon endpoint via HEOS/Airplay.
Second! More reviewers should do such useful videos.
Thank you! 😁🎉
First.. Thank Elan!
You’re welcome!
So true! And honestly, HDAMs aren’t doing anything anyway if you’re exclusively using external amps. 🤘
