Dear Michelle, I have been watching your videos now for a short time but I have seen at least six or eight of them and I am a little jealous of how quickly you can put out your artwork. I have been ill this past year and I had promised all of my 11 grandchildren their own peace of Art in Oil, of course that was before cancer and heart issues took over my life. Zero have been painted to date I ran across your videos and they have given me hope, inspiration, and also made me realize that I am putting way too much time detail in my paintings. I have been an artist for over 50 years at some level, and watching you has made me realize that I don't have the time Left and I miss learned your techniques because your paintings are BEAUTIFUL and FUN AS WELL❣️ I also appreciate the very precise and specific instructions you give everyone, write down to the paint types and colors you will be using for each painting and even the brushes you'll be using… I love the little build chimes as you switch things out especially if we are painting with you so that we can stop the video and finish where we are , at before we move forward with You❣️❣️ you make it much easier than anyone else whom I've painted with online. I want to thank you for the enjoyment of your videos; I want to thank you for your lovely voice and also for being such a good artist but also a good teacher; unless I want to thank you for inspiring all of us to get busy paintingAnd know that we can have fun with it and not spend months at 1 painting.!!!!! .I am going to watch you beautifully paint birds, especially the red cardinal. Always wanted to put more attention to painting myself. Remember, telling you about blowing kisses at the Red Bird, just one would especially. get my attention. Peeping out the kitchen window, or when going to the back door, or looking out the front door, there would be one for special attention. The park, the front yard or the back yard (had to sell our home in 2019), miss. it so much. With the pandemic, and other situations(hopefully will complete chemo treatment in January of 2022), haven't been able to enjoy the outdoors like in the past. I have recently been let go from work and am basically disabled so these paintings are helping me build back my self esteem! It has become a joy! Another beautiful painting, thank you. I did this one at the weekend to make a pair with Winter Cardinal. I found this one a little trickier (it certainly took me longer) and one side of my bird house roof is a little off but it still looks fabulous. Love your tutorials, they are so easy to follow and the way they are broken into the sections is really good.

Hi Michelle! I am trying to paint this one. My problem is the sky. It gets “muddy” really fast. Am I using a brush that is too soft? Too much paint or not enough? I stopped trying to do the picture at this point and just practice the sky. I really love the look that you achieve. My colors are the same. My brush is bristle but it just gets all muddy after a couple of circular strokes.
Hi Janeen, When I'm working with a firm bristle brush on a step like this, I tend to use a small amount of paint in order to maintain control over how much the colors blend. So it sounds like you may be using too much paint on your brush at one time. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching, Michelle
@@michellethepainter. Thank you for responding! I started over 3 times!!! I am doing smaller practice pieces before I buy the kit. Yep, too much paint turned out to be my main issue. Also I started out too dark. Once I figured the amount of paint and start with more white the sky came out pretty good. It sure is tricky figuring out how much paint to have on your brush!! Sometimes you need a lot and other times just a little.. my birds are too small in proportion so I will pay closure attention on the next practice one. I really really love being able to paint with you. Your technique fits me. Connecting the dots...o my goodness what a perfect way to get things drawn. The only thing I am missing is a glass of iced beverage!!!

Hi Michelle! I’ve been watching you for months and I love your content! I have not painted with you because my level of OCD wouldn’t allow me to start without having the same items you have. LBVS! 😂 I’ve worked on my condition now and finally have most of what I need to paint along with you. I have a few questions though. If I bought my canvas from the arts & crafts store do I still need to prime it? Is it true that you should spray a mist of water over the canvas before you begin to paint? I’m finding that the brushes look the same but have different names, does it really matter? (i.e. 1/2 bristle brush vs 1/2 flat brush). My final struggle will be choosing which of your fabulous paintings will be my “First” at home masterpiece, yes, that includes your canvas and cookies collection too because I’m a big kid at heart ♥️! Hi Angela, I'm delighted that you're enjoying the videos and are ready to start painting with me. A primed canvas means that the raw canvas has been treated to allow for paint to adhere to it. Most canvasses that you buy from the store these days, or online, are already primed when you buy them. If you purchased a raw canvas, then you will want to put a layer of primer on the side that you want to paint. There is a product called Gesso, that is specifically designed to be a good adhesion primer for art canvasses. If the canvas you have is white on one side and tan on the other side, than it is already pre-primed, if it is tan on both sides than it is raw. As for the brushes, yes they can make a difference. A bristle brush is very firm and will move the paint around easily, but you may have bought a firm flat brush, so I would try yours first. As for the round brushes, I use synthetic fiber brushes, which are designed for acrylic paint, the bristles have good bounce back to them. If you purchased round brush specific for watercolor paint, as opposed to acrylic, the bristles may be too soft to push the paint. I do not pre-spray my canvas with water, as I use thin bodied student grade paint, which has a lot of fluidity to it. If you bought heavier bodied paint, than spraying the canvas with a little water will help with the initial application layer. I hope all of this this info helps. Have fun painting! ~Michelle

Hi, For these painting tutorials I am using a thin bodied student grade paint from Blick Materials called Blicrylics. They don't have the best pigment but I like the way they spread for blending and layering and I like the affects that I can get. Hi, you can sell your painting that you have created from watching my videos. Not many artists allow it but I think it's great because it tells me that you are proud of your painting. Hi Michelle! I’ve been watching you for months and I love your content! I have not painted with you because my level of OCD wouldn’t allow me to start without having the same items you have. LBVS! 😂 I’ve worked on my condition now and finally have most of what I need to paint along with you. I have a few questions though. If I bought my canvas from the arts & crafts store do I still need to prime it? Is it true that you should spray a mist of water over the canvas before you begin to paint? I’m finding that the brushes look the same but have different names, does it really matter? (i.e. 1/2 bristle brush vs 1/2 flat brush). My final struggle will be choosing which of your fabulous paintings will be my “First” at home masterpiece, yes, that includes your canvas and cookies collection too because I’m a big kid at heart ♥️! Hi Angela, I'm delighted that you're enjoying the videos and are ready to start painting with me. A primed canvas means that the raw canvas has been treated to allow for paint to adhere to it. Most canvasses that you buy from the store these days, or online, are already primed when you buy them. If you purchased a raw canvas, then you will want to put a layer of primer on the side that you want to paint. There is a product called Gesso, that is specifically designed to be a good adhesion primer for art canvasses. If the canvas you have is white on one side and tan on the other side, than it is already pre-primed, if it is tan on both sides than it is raw. As for the brushes, yes they can make a difference. A bristle brush is very firm and will move the paint around easily, but you may have bought a firm flat brush, so I would try yours first. As for the round brushes, I use synthetic fiber brushes, which are designed for acrylic paint, the bristles have good bounce back to them. If you purchased round brush specific for watercolor paint, as opposed to acrylic, the bristles may be too soft to push the paint. I do not pre-spray my canvas with water, as I use thin bodied student grade paint, which has a lot of fluidity to it. If you bought heavier bodied paint, than spraying the canvas with a little water will help with the initial application layer. I hope all of this this info helps. Have fun painting! ~Michelle

Hi, For these painting tutorials I am using a thin bodied student grade paint from Blick Materials called Blicrylics. They don't have the best pigment but I like the way they spread for blending and layering and I like the affects that I can get. I sell small sample sizes of the paint on my website (link below) if you want to try it before you buy the big bottles.
