  • This is a stunning performance done by Masterpiece in the 2013 semi-finals that I transcribed. I've listened to this tune (arranged by Aaron Dale) hundreds of times on repeat just to hear the chord on the word "froze." Something about second inversion dominant chords in a barbershop style is truly mesmerizing!
    This version of "Oh, Susana" was arranged by Aaron Dale.
    -I had trouble finding a direct link to purchase the sheet music for this arrangement but on his website, there is a link to learning tracks. Additionally, you might possibly be able to email him through the contact form on his website to buy the sheet music directly.

    Okay, but the bVI7 on “death” needs more love then it’s getting right now.

    Baritone definitely moves from C to A on “to”

      What’s a Chinese 7th?

      @@theafellacomposer it's a slightly outdated term, we usually call it a stalactite 7th or icicle 7th nowadays because the intervals between the notes get bigger the lower you go. It's a dominant 7th chord in the inversion 5-3-7-1 from bottom to top. As you can hear on the "froze" chord, it sounds very cool

    Also, the “to” chords need some fixing. The tenor sings Eb(stays on the 7th) and the Bari moves to A on b.4(makes a dom9).

      Lots of chords here are incorrect…
      If you need some help with the transcriptions, I’d be happy to help if I can!

    Barbershop is a cool genre. Why does tuning not seem to be a priority?

    • @ursamajor4684
      @ursamajor4684 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      because you're used to 12-tone equal temperament. their intervals are actually more accurate

      the irony here is tuning is MORE of a priority in Barbershop than in most other genres. Barbershop is based on pure intervals that lock into a root pitch, instead of a tempered system where all the notes are equidistant from each other

      Tuning is a priority for most quartets, just not Masterpiece lol (kidding of course, they’re world champs)
