New Royal Enfield Himalayan review - on and off-road on the new 450 ADV bike

- The new #RoyalEnfield Himalayan is a new clean-sheet design, featuring a new frame, engine, and single-cylinder #Sherpa 450cc engine. It now produces more power and more usable torque than before, and has a more focused chassis thanks to Showa suspension and 21/17 inch wheels sizes.
All things told it's a bike many green lane riders and lightweight adventure fans have been very excited to see, and to test the model out where better than the stunning Himalayas and the beautiful town of Manali.

It's so good to see you also highlight on how good the Himalayas are and how good Manali and its people are. Love from India ❤️🫡
Great crisp and concise video, some beautiful photography too! RE know their market and this looks spot on. Really appreciate your kind words at the end of the video regarding the local people and the plight they faced in the recent floods.
Very much appreciated. Thanks for watching.
Brakes are great because of the sintered pads RE is using for the first time, starting with the Himalayan!
RE has been using sintered pads in all of their 650 models for the last 5 years.
@@twowheeledparadox 9, starting with the GT 535
@@thefastelephant94 Ah, yes. The GT 535 was also the first and only RE bike to have a Brembo brake caliper. The first to have a floating brake disc too. Its front brake was excellent.
What a great choice of location. I get it’s obvious but as I’ve worked in launch events it must’ve been a logistical nightmare so we’ll done RE for going with it.
Nice review, to the point as usual. I'm now getting seriously interested in Himalayan.
Thanks for also admiring the Himalayas and the local people. It means a lot.
Epic scenery! Great video!
Great upgrade to the old Himalayan..
Lots of new features and tech coming in.
This will be the go to bike for all your rough road adventures at a price which won't pinch your wallet.
Just hope RE have maintained good quality control.
CF Moto, Rieju, Voge, Triumph scrambler at least in the Uk disagree...we'll see
400X doesn’t have the suspension travel, nor the ground clearance of this. It’s aimed at a different market. I’m not sure why people compare the two. The 400X is more aimed at the 411 Scram (or maybe a future RE Scram with the new motor) the 452 will MURDER the 400X off road.
@@martyn_g There's such a thing as light off roading...hence why there are scramblers.
Its quite common knowledge and a popular market.
@@MauriceTarantulasyes and that's why he said the comparison is dumb because Himalyan is NOT a light off-roader compared to Scrambler 400. Secondly no one has heard about these Chinese brands you mentioned who have no legacy, heritage or presence while Royal Enfield is globally known for making original products and being the oldest manufacturer on the planet.
@@SurajSinghTomarArya Err I mentioned other bikes as well, maybe you cant read.
And any bike can be compared to another, sure you wont take a light scrambler into rough stuff but we have something called "green laning here in the Uk" so people might get the Triumph over the new Himmy. Maybe its news to you but the Original Himmy is a do it all type bike, not just for heavy stuff.
P.s A lot of people have heard of these Chinese brands depends which country you are from. Am sure R Enfield wants to do well in all countries not just India.
Maybe try and not be such a fanboy...
Great Video, Very well reviewed as usual from Toad , crisp and to the Point, This Himalayan is indeed a big leap ahead than previous version.Glad to see you in India , riding the Himalayan , in the Spectacular Himalayas , and Have a word of appreciation for People of Manali , Himachal Pradesh who faced fury of nature , earlier this year.
We saw the aftermath first hand, it was devastated.
Great review. Thank you 👍🏻 I’ll defo be getting a test ride on one when they arrive. Also doing India next year so may even get out and about on one 😀
Looks like Enfield have worked hard on this liquid cooled, Sherpa engine model. It is built to a price point, so you aren’t going to get fancy suspension. It’s good for weekday commuting and some weekend gravel trails. Some more off-road tyres for winter would be useful in mud and slippery terrain. Overall I think it’s a significant upgrade and will still represent very good value for adventure riders on a budget- Enfield’s demographic.
most awaited motorcycle ever, after 560'000km done on a multitude of styles/bikes
wow thats a flex 💪
Beautiful bike, enough power, like it!! It is beginner friendly as a first bike? Thanx for the review, cheers ✌️
Super review... To the point.. No fluff
At 3:13 "you can just get on it and it was easy to ride" That describes every lightweight adventure bike.
I think what people loved about the old was was the cruiser like engine with the ability to pull relatively hard at ultra low rpm. Does this new Himalayan fully retain that ability?
He said the eco mode gave you just that .
02:45 Wait…..10,000 meters?
I guess he means 10000 feet
Did your crew cross paths with the Revzilla Yanks on their way up to Umling-La? 😃
A bold move from RE... because there is a lot of 'That a first one'
So reliaibliby longterm remains uncertain.
On the other hand RE is the only major brand that realy delivers what most riders want
and they made so much progression on so many levels the last years that you can risc a dive.
Can't wait for a comparison between this and CF Moto 450 MT. Both have 21" front and 18" in the back.
Thank you for your visit to India. I think you will get to visit it one more time in 2026 when there will be an even bigger Himalayan. close to 600cc and will get a parallel twin next time.
On a more serious note, I think I’d consider “adding back” some kind of center light. Would only make a difference when it makes a difference, but then it… well… would make a difference. I don’t think motorists are used to vehicles that narrow - at least in North America - and the “missing” center light would confuse. …could be a simple LED strip of some sort. John
Forgive me for enjoying what was obviously just a metric versus imperial slip-up, but I did go back and listen a half-dozen times: You’re at 10,000 meters!? (…aka 32,808 feet.) Holy cr@p Batman! Great review. Looks like quite the experience. Cheers. John in Colorado. (Only 4,300 meters, so I’m less-hypoxic.)
He is at 10,000 feet.
32,808 feet is taller than mount everest!
The small city Manali is at 10,000 feet (a.k.a 3000 Meters) in the Himalayas in India.
How does this compare with the KTM ADV 390?
Soooo beautiful bike!!!! Do you think it is beginner friendly? Any vibrations or heat from the engine? Thanx
Royal Enfield have now released the official UK prices for the new Himalayan as follows.
Base version. £5,750
Pass version £5,850
Summit versions.
Hanle Black. £6,050
Kamet white (tubeless). £6,250
Hanle black (tubeless option). £6,300.... To much for 450cc and one cylinder.....
Looks like a proprlely put together Machine....RE will never disappoint...🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Impressive riding environment. So do you think the riders of older model Himalayans will want to switch over to the new one?
Absolutely
totally, this bike is just as easy to ride, but better in almost every single way.
Beautiful drone and camera work.. Superb presentation.. Quality is top notch.. New Himalayan is most hyped and near to perfect so I booked one in kaza brown 😊
Thank God you didn't ramble on about the mountains for 20 min like others.
The new Himalayan is priced at 5800-6300 Pounds in the UK and comes with centr stand, crash bars and some other accessories. Similarly priced in other countries of Europe.
Why nobody is talking about ergonomics? tall riders? knee angle?
Nice review
It's all good, brilliant and ideal! Even all the people are friendly and smiling! Good review! Not a commercial at all.
5750 GBP starting price for UK. Seems like RE is keeping the increase in price to approx. same dollar value in all markets. 55000 INR increase in India, roughly 520 GBP.
About its weight how hard is it to pick up
2 min 28 sec - im sure u mean 10,000 ft NOT mtrs
Any idea of the service interval? Thanks
I see the Himalayan as the middle ground between a scrambler and an adventure bike. Obviously, its aesthetics play an important role in this, but, in terms of dynamics, according to the comments that I could see in the different reviews, they lead me to that intuition or conclusion. Rear shock absorber without vane, efficient but somewhat limited suspension travel, low clearance of the crankcase from the ground in relation to its long wheelbase, 17" rear wheel (although the height of the tire could compensate), very high weight compared to a enduro bike, quite low power and torque compared to other bikes of its weight. What do you think?
Depends on how you define Adventure. It is a very small niche community who wants to revv the bike and do jumps on an offroad trail. This on the otherhand is an all rounder, it will do highways, touring, offroad and no roads and you can do some light jumping. For 99% of the riding population that is the definition of adventure. On highways you need your bike to be atleast 180 Kg+ to avoid wind buffeting. A bike like this will see probably 70% highways and 30% offroad during its lifetime and I find the highways more scary than offroad on a motorcycle when it is a lightweight
@@vishnumohannair8506 great point of view! Thank you for sharing it with me.
The definition of adventure from the Spanish dictionary is: Strange or unusual event that a person experiences or witnesses, especially one that is exciting, dangerous or involves some risk.
I think those who misrepresent the term adventure are those in charge of marketing, because lately they offer us motorcycles to ride through fairly normal terrain. But your argument is true, 99% of people, in a living situation with so many comforts, believe that walking through the countryside is adventuring.
I think it looks a lot different.
When it coming to the uk
Will the old Royal Enfield, genuine aluminium panniers, fit the new Royal Enfield 450cc bike pannier frames?
Thanks in advance if anybody can tell me.
Yes
Hai notato se il motore euro 5 plus della Himalayan scalda le gambe?
Wow
How tall you are Toad?
Wish they had changed the mirror shape, they are not aligning with the overall design of the bike.
2:47 "We are at 10,000 metres here."
I don't think so Toad.

Think the Rieju and CF moto are very attractive alternatives...
If I had to choose based on specs I'd get the 39 litre Rieju.
Go for it.
@@jazztryppyn8445 Actually no I would like a Sup meteor 650 as it stands to go with my 2023 Himmy. Its a hypothetical situation i.e if I wanted a new adv bike. Lucky here in the Uk could probably test ride the new Himmy and the CF moto...in fact I will😂
Am happy with my Himmy though for a long time..
Why would you buy a bike solely on specs? You need to ride them before paying.
@@martyn_g I didnt say I would...
Feeling a 650 would be my needs here in the US.
Indian riders don’t use the back brake and rarely the front brakes. They use both. Not sure where/how you got this data point - maybe a super small sample size or heresy?
Heresay maybe🤔…..Heresy is a bit strong 😜😊
Indian great motor cycle
"10,000 meters" "Take your breath away" Life at 10,000 meters (32,800feet) will definitely take your breath away. 32 HP? how does it even run at that altitude?
It's 40hp, he said it feels like 32 in that altitude.
Took me so long that Patrick beat me to it!
Is it still a 5 speed?
6
First off aesthetics is paramount and this doesn’t have it, so no review good or bad will suffice. I’ll still give you a thumbs up even if I don’t watch it as I don’t know you probably did a good job.
I disagree for this category of bike. These bikes get dropped, dented, scratched, high sided, bashed etc. your “pretty” bike won’t be “pretty” much longer, lol. Unless you covet your bikes, and don’t ride them off road, sure, looks are important IMO. Me, I clean the chain, wipe fork legs and the shock. Maybe give the rotors a clean once a month, and wash mine every three months. That’s it. My ADV bikes are often scratched up.
Do you need acclimatization process for 10000 ft?
Not really, it was harder walking about, and I noticed that after around 100-yards of walking I was much more out of breath than normal.
While walking only
You won't have trouble breathing. But walking about you will run out of breath much more quickly. But it's not a big deal unless you are really unfit. It is manageable.
CF Moto 450mt and Honda NX500 are much better then RE.
Yeah, great info - waiting for the price from a Honda CRF owner at 117k Kilometers, ... It's a f***in Honda. Could be the next one, as the current is using oil.
You are breathing pretty well for a man at 10,000 meters of altitude. Look down about 1200 meters and you may see people on t;he summit of Everest:-)
It's not meters its feet.
Nice, but l won't get excited until someone does a review riding in the UK on our sloppy, pot holed muddy, byways!
10000 Feet
RE never disappoints to disappoint.
Hater spotted
what a strange comment.

😂😂😂😂😂
The new problems with the new Himalayan are coming to light including batteries that go dead in four days and engines spontaneously stalling.
10000 meters up?! 🤭
He meant Manali city is at 10,000 feet in India.
I figured as much that, that was what he meant 🤫
10000 meters? Lol
Why you used tricolour in thumbnail for Royal Enfield... Royal Enfield is not Indian make motorcycle... Remove the thumbnail... RE is England make for your information.
Dude it is under Indian ownership (Eicher motors) for decades, please read..
10,000 meters up?
Wave hello to me in my Airbus on the way to Singapore wont you?
🙃
I don't understand why the bike is launched without a price tag - BSA did a similar-ish sort of thing and people just lost interest
10000 feet.
Price will be revealed this month itself
@@sahebchoudhury 2:46 10,000 metres
Has to be in feet. Mt. Everest itself is at 8848 metres.@@BN1960
I meant feet, obvs!
Just never enough horsepower, I love kTm😁.
But ktm 390 adv stalls so much on low end . I mean you can ride it but the ease of having more than 37 nm out of 40 nm torque at a low rpm of 3000 is pretty handy . Don't you think so?
New engine new Frame and it’s still ugly
You're not at ten thousand meters , you cannot be. Period. You're at ten thousand FEET
YOU Stand CORRECTED.
Calm down 😄
