    Here is how I mount keikis of 𝘿𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙤𝙗𝙞𝙪𝙢 𝙖𝙥𝙝𝙮𝙡𝙡𝙪𝙢 (pierardii, cucullatum) on a solid wood board. Pendulous 𝘿𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙤𝙗𝙞𝙪𝙢 is very easy to grow, you will get some keikis after blooming season. Mounting the keikis on a board will get another beautiful flower cascade after 2~3 years.

      can i use wood of pine tree or tamarind tree?

    • @SamsOrchids
      @SamsOrchids  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Degreased pine wood is fine, but fresh pine wood is not recommended, because the resin is not good for orchid roots. Tamarind tree is supposed to be fine.

    Love, love, love this idea! Did you paint or stain the wood?

    • @SamsOrchids
      @SamsOrchids  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. Better not to, the chemicals may affect the growths of roots.

    would you recommend drilling holes on the board so roots can attach themselves to board

    • @SamsOrchids
      @SamsOrchids  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that would be great with holes on the slab. These holes can also increase the air movement between orchid roots. However, watering is the key. What kind of mounting slab is secondary.

      Thank you. They were mounted for approximate 2 months. Nothing really have changed but only 1 or 2 tiny new leaves. I’ll make another video about how I take care of the new mounted keikis in winter for
      updates.

      @SamsOrchids  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can mount any epiphytic orchid on a wooden slab. Just control the watering properly.

      Thank you. I'm really glad that you asked, even though I've put the links in the description. _Dendrobium aphyllum_ has different care tips in different seasons, that I've stated in the update videos. Hope you enjoy them.

      Usually it takes 3 year to see the first bloom from a new mounted keiki. But we possibly can see the flowers next month.

      Each potting media has its good sides and down sides. I can't tell you that whether a potting media is good or not.
      This series of videos have been recorded since 2017, and is still updating, you can see that if the growing method is good or not by your own judgment.

    Can you mix with Spanish moss?

    • @SamsOrchids
      @SamsOrchids  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t have Spanish moss, but I have a Tillandsia stricta kept under pendulous Dendrobiums. They can grow in the same environment, however, they don’t share the same flowering and watering schedule. Therefore, it’d be better to grow them in separate pots or mounts.

    • @paulashe7460
      @paulashe7460 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Orchids Sam's so no. Or you don’t know. Thanks.

    • @SamsOrchids
      @SamsOrchids  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, don't mix them together. If you grow them in the same pot or mount, they can survive, but you may have problems to make them bloom. This is my 2 cents. However, if you insist trying it, why not? Everything is possible. Happy growing!

    • @paulashe7460
      @paulashe7460 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Orchids Sam's why not? Would the orchids dry the moss out?

    • @SamsOrchids
      @SamsOrchids  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let’s clarify the question. First of all, Spanish moss is a kind of air plant called Tillandsia usneoides, is also a flowering plant. If you mean the living Spanish moss, my first reply is what I was talking about.
      Some companies sell dry Spanish moss as a potting media, but I only saw people using dry Spanish moss for decoration here in Taiwan. If you mean adding dry Spanish moss on the mount, yes, you can mix Spanish moss in the potting media (but it doesn’t help much). It doesn’t matter what kind of potting media we are using (we can even add no potting media on the mount), the key point is how much water and fertilizers the potting media can retain, then, how frequently we have to give water to meet an orchid’s needs. And that depends on the growing environment.

    Add:is it a dendro hono hono?

    • @SamsOrchids
      @SamsOrchids  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, these keikis are den. aphyllum. As I know, “Honohono” is how people in Hawaii call den. anosmum.
      If you are new to pendulous dendrobiums. I would recommend you den. aphyllum. Den. aphyllum is easier than den. anosmum.
