As soon as I found out about this challenge, I was looking forward to what you would be coming up with. Nobody on TH-cam can do more with a simple sheet of plywood! Doing all this without a CNC is all the more impressive.
Now that is really good. Have some 30mm plywood given to me from a friend in London that's been put to one side for a while but now after seeing yours, well rocking chair here we come. Another great vid, well done. From sunny North East Coast, England. Cheers Peter.
I need a new office chair, I like really high backs, I do believe this chair nails it. Thanks so much for the great input. I'll watch the video 100 times more. You have made is seem simple.
Wowsa! Beautiful design skilfully built. I was delighted to see you sell the plans and templates. I'd like to build one for my daughter who is just setting up her first home. Bill in Scotland.
I really like this chair and consider to buy the plan for it. Before that just a question, if I print the template pdf with an A4 printer, is that possible so that after printing I can stick the pages together in order to get the proper dimensions back?
This rocking chair is bad ass my man. Im a beginner and its a little bit out of my difficulty level but I will want to make it someday. When I have all your badass tools. Thank you for making this video.
Been watching your videos for some time now and I just started commenting on a few of the guys l like to watch. your videos are always awesome and great to watch, I am a full time woodworker and furniture builder and I love what I do, its always nice to see others that are passionate about woodworking as well. each piece you do definitely shows that for sure. thanks again for another sweet video.
Awesome, man! Thanks for checking out my stuff. Just took a look at your website, and you do some really great work! Always cool to hear from people that do similar work, keep it up, man!
Great piece! I hats off to you for the punniness of the build and over all theme. Could you share where I can get those clamping blocks(if that's what they are called)? They are seen around the 4:23 min mark of this build.
Thanks Daniel! Glad you enjoyed it. Those are Bridge City Tool Works Miter Stitch Sets. They work great, but unfortunately they don't sell them anymore. Not sure if there is another company out there that sells something similar, but you could also probably make something that would work just as well.
Wow shaun, you knocked or (rocked) it out of the park with this one. I didnt know you could do such a great build with just plywood. And great sense of design on your part. You should be very proud of yourself for this one. I got inspiration for my next build by watching this video. For that i thank you. Keep up the great work. Your coming into your own now with this new format of yours. Congrats bro!!
This reminds me a lot of someone else who does car audio work on TH-cam. His creativity and use of router templates are similar only completely different projects
Another great one! I am always messing with double sided tape on templates, but I never considered screwing the template down when you’re just going to double up the boards anyway.
Really nice. I like the stability and multiple layers of Baltic Birch but the look? Not so much. I'm a sucker for furniture grade walnut ply. What is that bit you're using at 3:14? I've only seen one other woodworker use it and am curious. Thanks!
Really like this piece, can I suggest maybe a video talking about the thought and design process you go through to create these curves? I would love to re-create this for myself but I am little stumped thinking about the shape of that seat and then the angles of putting it all together. Do you design these out in Sketchup or Fusion first? Even then you need to have great visualization skills.
Thanks, Wayne! I have definitely been thinking about doing a video(s) on my design process. I don't use Sketchup or Fusion, just paper and pencil, then a full-size drawing on MDF. I touched on that a little bit in my template video from a few days ago, but could definitely go more in-depth about it.
Nice build!! You guys make me so dang jealous with your toys!! LOL Someday, maybe!!! Right now I'm just sticking to things we want for us I've tried selling things before and had zero luck But I just do it for the fun and relaxation it brings me.
I bought the plans and perhaps I'm technology challenged too. I have two questions: 1. How do I print the templates FULL size? and 2. What's the layout on a 4 x 8 sheet so that one sheet will yield all pieces? Love your manner of presenting, too!
Thanks for buying the plans! There should be an option when printing the PDF versions called "Poster" and that will print the parts on multiple sheets at full size. As for the layout for one sheet, I don't have that in any digital form. When I lay out something like this, I just trace the parts onto the sheet the best I can to maximize what I can get, so parts are kind of all over the place. Hope that helps!
Those are Bridge City Tool Works Miter Stitch Sets. They work great, but unfortunately they don't sell them anymore. I actually recently posted a video about making a homemade version.
Thank you! Unfortunately I don't make plans for any of my furniture. All of my designs are done on paper, and I don't know enough to make a digital version that would be of any use. Sorry!
Very nice! If you weren't constrained to 1 sheet of plywood for the challenge, would you consider cutting the base in one piece instead of joining them together from multiple segments? Might save a lot of joining, gluing, and clamping time, and it would have a great look, especially with all the grain lining up. Just spitballing a thought.
Thanks Dan! Yeah, you could definitely do it in one big piece, which would have a nice look. I think beyond the constraints of the challenge, doing it that way would just end up with a lot of waste. Which if you were clever, you could find a use for, but doing it in pieces definitely gives you the most efficient use of material.
After a bone crushing trip and fall involving me, a chihuahua and a rocking chair - all three of us, me, the dog and major parts of the chair were untangled by the paramedics before transport to the emergency room - I find myself in need of a new rocking chair. Going to use your plans, only dumb them down to rank amateur status because that's what I am. Hope it comes out nearly as beautiful as yours.
That music is so perfect for this Rockin Video.....Cant get enough of that chair.
Haha, thanks Dan! Had to keep it rockin'!
As soon as I found out about this challenge, I was looking forward to what you would be coming up with. Nobody on TH-cam can do more with a simple sheet of plywood! Doing all this without a CNC is all the more impressive.
absolutely the same thing I was thinking!
Really appreciate that! I do love to use plywood!
- BEAUTIFUL piece. GREAT artistry. VERY creative. Thanx 4 sharing.
Now that is really good. Have some 30mm plywood given to me from a friend in London that's been put to one side for a while but now after seeing yours, well rocking chair here we come. Another great vid, well done. From sunny North East Coast, England. Cheers Peter.
Awesome, glad you will be able to use that plywood! Thanks for watching!
Game's over. You win!
Haha, thanks man! Everybody has been making such great stuff, it is just fun to be a part of it.
Dude you did a pretty good job yourself 👍
Awesome piece of work. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent craftsmanship Shaun!
Thanks, David!
I'd been thinking plywood is not good looking, until I found this channel! Great works, very inspiring!
Awesome! It is always fun to make material like plywood look as beautiful as possible. Thanks for watching!

I spot a CCS shirt! I was born in SLO and lived around there for 20 years. Miss it. I'm loving your work!

Shaun, your designs are out of hand! You're massively inspiring, thanks for producing this content!
Really appreciate that! I'm always happy to hear when I have inspired someone, as I have been inspired by so many people over the years.
Love this! Question though… are glue and dominoes strong enough to support the weight of a seated person over time…?
I need a new office chair, I like really high backs, I do believe this chair nails it. Thanks so much for the great input.
I'll watch the video 100 times more. You have made is seem simple.
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Another beautiful job.
Thank you!
I would love to sit in this chair! Plywood builds are the best, thanks Shaun.

Wow Shaun...what an awesome entry to the challenge! Such a beautiful chair - great work!
Really appreciate it, Dan! Thanks for watching!
Have you considered making a zero gravity chair recliner?
Maybe someday!
I really like this chair and consider to buy the plan for it. Before that just a question, if I print the template pdf with an A4 printer, is that possible so that after printing I can stick the pages together in order to get the proper dimensions back?

Right on! I love that place. Thanks for watching!

Nice work. Please can you post details on your bobbin sander

There was been some really good builds, but only one GREAT build. Awesome mate I am totally impressed. 👏
Really appreciate that! Thanks for watching!
Shaun Boyd love your channel, your humour is right up my alley. Plus you make awesome furniture.
I like how you ended the video. Great build.
Right on! Thanks for watching!
starting at 7:08, what kind of bench dogs are those? they kind of look like vacuum cleaner extensions.
Haha, they are what came with my workbench, which is an Ulmia.
Awesome work. Ihave really been enjoying your videos and projects
Thank you! Really appreciate it!
Great chair Shaun!
Thanks, Robin!
Awesome chair to rock out in.
Exactly! Thanks!
NICE WORK...🤘
Love that rocker
Thanks!
Another great one! I am always messing with double sided tape on templates, but I never considered screwing the template down when you’re just going to double up the boards anyway.
Thanks, Sean! Yeah, that is the best part about doing the laminated plywood pieces, double-sided tape can get pretty annoying.
Cool project
Thank you!
Man this is amazing, what a beautiful piece of art.
Really appreciate it! Thanks!
That chair is epic. Not a fan of calling things early but that's a winner.
No cheesy sign off... points deducted!!!
Haha, dang it!
So good dude!
Thanks, man! Appreciate it!
Congratulaciones Shaun, good design of leg and seat.
Good plywood and final color.
I will try to do some similar. Tks.
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Hi Shaun,
It’s very exciting to watch all of your amazing projects. All the best wishes to all four eyes
Kindest regards
Thanks!
Shaun , this is absolutely creative and beautiful 😊thank you enjoyed watching your video as always .
Really appreciate it, Mahendra! I'm really happy with how it came out!
Great piece 👍🏻
Thank you!
Really nice. I like the stability and multiple layers of Baltic Birch but the look? Not so much. I'm a sucker for furniture grade walnut ply. What is that bit you're using at 3:14? I've only seen one other woodworker use it and am curious. Thanks!
Yeah, can't go wrong with walnut veneer ply! I was using a Makita torx driver bit at 3:14. Thanks for watching!
nice, i'm gonna go make a couple now!
A very well made rocking chair, and of good proportions, gets my 5 ☆ rating
Thank you, really appreciate that!
Love this build. Thank you for sharing. Need to find a domino joiner I can afford.
Thanks! Yeah, my domino has paid for itself countless times over.
Can you get them for less that 1500?
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels!
Awesome, thank you!

That chair was definitely rockin'. \m/
Thank you!
If I had a vote for who would win the #rocklerplywoodchallenge it would be for you!
You have mad design skills, great editing skills, and know good music that lines everything up with you funny sense of humor!
Really appreciate that! It is always fun editing these videos.
awesome man, it came out great!
Thank you!
Dang dude! This looks amazing and comfy! Well done sir!
Thank you! It is actually really comfortable, which made me very happy the first time I sat in it.
Nice build!!
You guys make me so dang jealous with your toys!! LOL
Someday, maybe!!!
Right now I'm just sticking to things we want for us
I've tried selling things before and had zero luck
But
I just do it for the fun and relaxation it brings me.
Would it be possible to get plans for the chair? I would love to build one myself.
Unfortunately I don't have plans for any of my furniture. I design everything on paper, and don't know enough to make usable digital plans.
Thanks for the reply, that`s somewhat unfortunate. But I am already in the proces of making some plans for myself. Thank you a lot for the idea!
@@fabianzeller9485 , have you made it? Do you have any drawings?
Dude that was awesome both the video and the project 👏🏻
Right on! Thanks for watching!
Look real good great job.
Really appreciate it! Thanks!
Frikin AWESOME Sean! And not a CNC in sight! Well done sir - I think you’ve got that #rocklerplywoodchallenge in the bag!
Thank you! Always fun to become a human CNC.
Winner winner!
Haha, thanks Sam!

What were those little black strips you used for clamping the angles?
Those are Bridge City Tool Works Miter Stitch Sets. They work great, but unfortunately they don't sell them anymore. I actually recently posted a video about making a homemade version.
Hey Shaun, perfect result - plywood is such a great product. Greatings from Germany!
Thank you! I agree, plywood is such a great material to work with!
nice pretty rocking design. I would like to congratulate you on your modern furniture designs. a greeting from guadalajara mexico
Really appreciate it! Thanks!
Missed closing quote opportunity: "Keep your plywood rockin' and your template bearings rolling." :). Love the feel of your videos!
I need to start outsourcing my catchphrases! Thanks for watching!
I love your design! Can I get a copy of the plan?
Thank you! Unfortunately I don't make plans for any of my furniture. All of my designs are done on paper, and I don't know enough to make a digital version that would be of any use. Sorry!

Hope it comes out nearly as beautiful as yours.
That sounds like a tragic story, but the bright side is you get to make a new chair! Good luck with it and thanks for the support!
Shaun Boyd made this? I love it!
Haha, I'm a literal guy.
Very Cool! I like Plywood too! ROCK ON!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Cool build, Shaun! There you go with those templates again! Ha ha. But that’s why it turned out so great!
Thanks, Bruce! I would be nothing without my templates!
