House of Balloons album is so good, scary good in a good way. The way his music & lyrics makes you feel & think. Good is not the best word to describe it, but this is all i got. This is the Weeknd I was captivated by. His music (the beat, instruments used)makes your body feel like you conquered the world & you owe yourself praise but then on the other hand his lyrics catch you by surprise & although they are wild you find yourself connecting to them. You may not have experienced what he is singing about but his lyrics somehow makes you feel like you did or maybe you just want to. The level of the lyrics is deep, but it lifts you high & the music matches that energy & takes you there, like to cloud nine levels connecting you maybe to that other side of you in an artistic way that is pleasurable to live in every now & then, but not as a lifestyle. I guess that is the power of art in music, poems, tv shows. His production & penmanship is that good. I admire it. Another fire request, another fire reaction, the smoke is real on this one.
This track right here is a classic from the trilogy album which already has a bunch of tracks that are certified classics in themselves but yeah during this time when this album was released nobody had this type of feel and sound so yeah that's why they called it dark R&B fire 🔥. also road to 90k subs.
I mis this The Weekend before he became a global Pop superstar. Befroe he blew up, he was making alternative Rock/House and Alternative R&B infusee music in the early 2010s. He then consolidated all the materials into one album called "Trilogy" in 2012. Its so weird to see how The Weekend blew up because ge wasnt even known. When he was only locally known in Montreal, he had a lawsuit against another Rock act with the same name except their name was spelled The Weekend which prompted him to change his name to The Weeknd without the E.
Yes so House of Balloons, Thursday and I forgot the other EP were separate works he release during the early 2010s before he made it mainstream. By 2012 he put all three materials in one EP as Trilogy. Then he blew up shortly after that into a mega Pop star.
@JohnDeDominicano it's so interesting how music hits different people. I used to call his older music "Suicide-watch R&B". LOL, admittedly not the most sensitive to people struggling with depression. I really like his newer music, because it's SLIGHTLY more optimistic, but overall I like him as an artist.
It unfortunate that some of the best music comes from artists being in a dark place. It’s been great watching him evolve as a person and as a fan you want him to be happy, but it does change the music. I’ve enjoyed all his albums thought. For me the progression has been fun. This mixtape however is my favorite from him. To come out of nowhere and you have no idea who he is, you just have something so different and so good. It’s just different. Starboy and After Hours are my next favorite though. Just depends on my mood.
This was when frank ocean also dropped nostalgia ultra and it was a bunch of us goin crazy over their sounds. It was a good time. You couldnt go anywhere on campus without either hearing this weekend project or frank.
A few of his songs have that motivational energy. 'I Feel it Coming' is one that resonates w me. It came out right before I graduated UTS school. I was so inspired! 🎉
This is my second favorite song on the mixtape. You should check out the first track off here, High For This. Or False Idols ft. Lil Baby and Lily-Rose Depp from The Idol soundtrack 🔥 And this is incredible live!

that man was struggling but I see what you mean by "missing the old Weeknd"

The Weeknd’s first three mixtapes are better than the entire career recordings of some other stars.
