This current generation definitely needs to see this video!
It hurts 100% when someone you know is purchasing an expensive car beyond their capacity but doesn't even have an entry level health insurance to support his family in an unexpected situation.
Very true. People are investing in unnecessary things rather than health insurance.
Completely agree
True
Correct✅
Well said ❤

Sunroofs are the most useless feature in India, but still people want them for showbaazi.
True, and if someone wants to buy an automatic base model...these companies offer them with sunroof jacking up the prices .
It's not the sunroof but they give some good features only in top model which has sunroof
True. I own a Brezza ZXI. Not once I have opened it. Given the weather we have in India. We do not need sunroofs here.
90% ppl dont know the use of sunroofs. Sunroofs are meant for specific places and uses.. but in India things are bought for showoff not for the use...
In India sunroofs are bought for poking head out 😂😂

Finally someone tell truth about consumer buying behaviour,I purchased secand hand ford fiesta with cash and I am happy about with car, I was planning pay down payment and book a new car but Now i am happy No mentanance No EMI ha thoda mileage kam hai lekin chal jata 😊
Bought Creta base variant mar 2021. Rs 11.5lakhs on road. Paid EMI of Rs 15100/- for 3 years. Sold April 2024 @Rs 8.35lakhs after 33k km . foreclosed loan. Not to mention petrol and running cost for 3 years. Loss hi loss. Show - Off ki chakkar main bahut loss ho gaya. Reason for selling - EMI chalana muskil ho raha tha being middle class with family 2 kids and parents. Now I use my brothers 2010 model Alto whenever I need. It has AC and power steering. I m happy to be free from EMi and depreciation. Peace of mind .
Edit 1 - Forgot to mention something. I learnt that people don't care about your after market mods. I had done mods worth about 1.5 lakhs like 10.25 inch screen , Harman component speakers, faux leather seats , steering mounted controls , 16 channel amp etc, all people kept asking to judge it's price was whether it has sun roof or not. People really don't understand variants. They judge by three things , alloy wheels, touch screen and run roof ...
u were lucky Creta thi shayad isliye itne ache rate mil gye 3yrs old car ke
😂😂😂😂😂 what a nice story. Funny to read
Next time buy the top variant instead of base😊
Nice story and good decision.
Then why invested 1.5 lakh if you had 2 kids ...... bro show off krne kliye invest kro portfolio bnao car to aa hi jaegi ...... And secondly car use k hisab se lo not to impress or bhaukal

Nothing Wrong with Buying an Expensive car only if u can afford it
I'm driving a 15 years old Alto still running like a new one 😅
I won't buy car on loans 😞
It will run for another 15 years.
Me too happy with my 16 yr old Alto
My Swift vxi is 18 years and crossed 1 lac kms, never had any major issues. By spending around ₹2 lacs to restore and upgrade, I can use it for another 10 years ( if the govt permits) for my limited usage.

The statement that "car is a depreciating asset" is completely wrong. And the wrong part is "asset"
A car is not an asset, it is a commodity which you use and with use, its value will come down. So don't buy it like an asset, buy it like a commodity considering why you need it and will you be able to do justice to the hard earned money that you pay for it.
Car is definitely an asset if it is a commercial car
Absolutely true. A commodity is meant for consumption and it's bound to loose its value. One should buy whatever is in the reach.
A car is an asset if used for business, if it generates income like (renting) or if it improves productivity. A commodity is only for consumption.
Gagan is right in the video for calling a car an asset.
Most Indians today use cars as commodities and treat it like commodities whereas in other countries cars are maintained by car owners as if it's an asset to the owner. Older generation Indians treated the car as an asset and maintained it well.
All assets depreciate in value over time, so Gagan is right in stating the same as well.

Safari is not for middle class people period....Its for upper middle class and rich people who already have a german luxury car at home. Their priority is comfort, luxury, safety and road presence. They are not bothered about middle class things like resale, service network, mileage, maintenance cost.etc. They are not bothered about minor electronic glitches, since they already have 2-3 other cars at home and also only few units have glitches not all of them. I am a doctor with fairly good salary and i am driving a 2011 chev BEAT..people all around me r buying cars beyond their salary cap with EMIs & then they hv to earn for that bank..nvr understood why & how..most ppl r buying for show off!!!
Hello doctor beat is not your personality you have to buy brezza minimum or creta
Dude rocking a Chevy and you are suggesting him Maruti Suzuki 😂
Hi Doctor, I support your judgment. You are doing well. People are crazy about the new cars. Please keep it till you sip the last drop of juice out of it. I own ecosport and have no issues with it. I have tried every car from c suv to big suv like harrier and xuv700. They are not like the old ones. You feel something is missing in them.
I am afraid to change my ecosport as I feel there may not be any other car like it.

Well said..cars are white elephants. I am a Doctorate in Mech Engg and have handsome income. I drive a 800 cc Renault kwid NXT which has all the requirements like power windows, power steering, entertainment, AC and most Importantly fuel economy. It gives me 28 km/ lit on highway after running 85,000 kms. It is compact easy to maneuver, easy to park and almost zero maintainance cost. It's pickup is extraordinary, even big SUVs can't beat it and when i overtake them on highways, i feel sorry for them. My colleagues who earn half of my income drive SUVs and they drive only on weekends because for daily travel, the cost is exorbitant and parking at work place is big problem. Earlier they used to tease me but now they are appreciating me but I don't bother about their comment I am happy with my life and that is important to me..
City driving is fine, but what about safety in highways? Kwid probably received 0 star safety rating!
Do we need safety build quality in city rides?
And for god sake, if u r really unfortunate then no saftey is adequate in front of the luck.

Total onroad price should be less than half of your annual income.
The worst thing about SUV trend in Bharat is sedans have just vanished ! Sedans are way better than SUVs and it's sad !
Speed breaker se tootne k liy . Har gali me har ghar se pehle aur har ghar k baad speed breaker nahee 1-1 feet car breaker hote hain.
People are buying suv not just because of the trend. The fault lies also in the infrastructure and reducing parking spaces. For example I chose suv because of their class leading GL and a sedan was not fitting in my garage which is why I went for elevate instead of city even though I wanted city since childhood.
Bad roads and unscientific constructions are the reason why people buy tall hatches

Hello, loved your suggestions.
I own a 2019 Dzire VXI and happy with performance and is enough for my family needs.
The only concern I have is on safety, and planning to buy a safe SUV car with automatic gear box.
The need of SUV body type is genuine as I will be using it in the farm mostly so need higher ground clearance, bigger and extended boot to carry goods.
Considering all these I'm planning to go for MG Astor Select CVT, would that be a good option?
Dropped Creta and Seltos for Safety and price point, I'm getting Astor at almost 3Lakhs lesser to Creta and Seltos, which I can consider to account for running cost since Astor has lower FE.

We are in Delhi NCR, with a 85k salary, and home loan EMI of 23k. Many a times I and wifey discuss about a car, but after some simple calculation, we arrive at a simple conclusion of not purchasing car and living happily.
In Delhi NCR, Delhi Metro and Noida metro a working fine. Then state transporters like UPSRTC, UKSRTC, HPRTC, JKSRTC are offering some superior class Volvo bus and these days expressways, excellent roads are there.

Currently my go to recommendation for family purpose is either MS Baleno or Fronx(1.0 turbo) if going for a hatch. In sedans Honda Amaze is a very practical car for everyday use and long touring. In sub compact SUVs, either sonet or brezza. This is my upper limit and I'll not go for anything higher than this segment. I may compromise on few gimmicky features but I'll not have any major reliability issues as well. Because as the elctronics keep getting loaded in a car, so are the reliability issues. I'm not interested in Tata or Mahindra because of small niggles those cars have.

I have been following you for a long time, and I agree with every point you have made. Although many people nowadays fall into the trap of digital money and easy money availability, I could completely relate to the part where you said, "Pay in cash." I did this when buying my home. Even 200,000 rupees in 500 rupee notes looks like a substantial amount. I believe that if people start using cash instead of digital money, they might think more carefully before making any decisions.

My suggestion will be:
First evaluate your needs & why you want to purchase a new car
Then figure out your finances - This will give you price range
Take multiple testrides (alone & with family) of whatever cars you've shortlisted
Then take an informed decision
About safety: dont blindly compare 5stars vs 3stars
About panaromic: Sunroof is not a necessary feature imho

Isilie bolta hun. Buy Honda cars. Reliable, no nonsense, easy to maintain cars. Decent fuel economy. Has all important features . Lacks gimmicky features
Thanks , you influenced my decision 👍
Right. I purchased Amaze in March this year. Really happy with it.
In exchange of my 8yr old Alto, planning to buy either LXI variant Brezza or I20 Magna. My usage is 90% city (Chennai) and 10% highway. Suggestions anyone!?
Awesome video sirji. Everyone is saying to buy which car but you are saying why to buy car if you already have one. I'm in a dilemma, I'm having 2020 Hyundai grand i10 nios, put up 50k kms. It's 2 star rated, so should I buy another one or continue with it. Need your advice sir. Thanks.
Eye opener for every new car buyer
I own a 12 year old wagonr petrol in Cochin city. My average mileage is about 500km a month. I am 29 yrs. The kind of pressure I have to deal from my family to buy a new car is crazy 🤣🤣 I told them how i find it useless to invest 30k/m for a car that stays in the garage for most part. For longer drives which I feel my wagonR would be uncomfortable i rent an Innova. In my city I can rent an Innova for 3 days for just about Rs 12K. That's like I am keeping aside 1000/m for some long drives. I am very proud this decision for the following reasons.
1. As per company policy the maximum liability I have if some damage happens to the rented car is about Rs 37000 in my city.
2. Including fuel expense the rent is only Rs 12K meaning I can stretch myself to even 3 or 4 such long trips a year accounting to only Rs 3000/m .
3. I don't have to worry about hefty EMIs.
4. I don't have to worry about changing tyres, servicing, modifying or any such things
5. I don't own something that is depreciating in value day by day.
6. I can try out different vehicle based on purpose.
7. Whatever money I save by not paying any EMIs, i can invest on assets as well my business that will grow and build by net worth.
Extremely proud that I do not own a car and am unaffected by my cousins and friends buying new vehicles. Such a peaceful life.
PS - I have invested well on my personal insurance for medical as well as term.
Hello Sir,
I bought a 2nd hand i20 (2013 Petrol) in 2022 for 3.5 lakhs.
City avg is 8-10 Kml/l and highway is 12-14 km/l
I have almost invested 60k in repairs and tyre change.
Further to this now the suspension is gone and also steering rack has some problem, for which the repair cost is another 60k-70k.
Should I invest this big amount in repairs or buy new one?
Pity
I currently own a 10-year-old Polo diesel 1.5 that runs smoothly without any issues. However, the limited space is prompting me to consider purchasing a new car. I'm thinking about getting a Jeep Compass Longitude without a sunroof and with manual transmission. Is this a wise decision?
Bro jeep compass is probably not the car you should get unless you really like it, its not very reliable and the milage on the thing is very poor. Yeah the features and all might be good but you can get all that for half the price. Go for a Volkswagen tigun
Sir well explained today’s realty
You are right thank you
Sir, Thanks for your advice not to purchase Wongor String. But can you suggest any 2nd car in budget for Rs.4lkhs
Kyaa?
Which car qould you suggest under 10 Lakh- Reliable, city use, safe bulid, good economy ?
Tata tiago
Well said, absolutely right.
Informative and realistic view.
