Lenny McLean was actually born in the Home Counties and his real name was Lawrence Mumford-Phillips. He went to Winchester, and then King’s College Oxford. At Oxford Lawrence read History and got a 2:1 Degree with Honours. It was during this time at Oxford that Lawrence had a romantic liaison with Emma Thompson and became a leading performer in the Oxford footlights with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie. After Emma Thompson broke off their engagement Lawrence went into a deep depression and after too much champers one evening with his chums Lawrence fell off his bike and banged his head. On waking up a miraculous change occurred and Lawrence stopped quoting Keats and tendering to his rose garden. Lawrence started going to the café every morning and had a fry up and called everyone in Oxford Guvnor. He also started extorting money from his fellow performers in the footlights and wanted to be called Lenny. No more cocktail parties were attended, now all Lenny wanted to do was have a good old knees and smash up hooray Henry’s. It was clear that Oxford was getting a little too small for Lenny so he decided to move to the east end of London and so began the legend of Lenny McLean.
He was a very multi talented man, I believe he would’ve gone on to have as successful as a career as Ray Winston after Lock Stock and appeared in more Guy Ritchie films.
Judging by the Jamiroquai song in the background when they’re in the pub I’d say this was around 1998…I was an 18yr old whipper snapper when this aired.
He was a great actor indeed. RIP!! Referring to the Knock Series, I have the 2 DVD series, but no others. Can one find them online? They do not seem to have the others... Perhaps someone can assist me with this. Was one of my favorite old school British series.

Lenny was a talented actor. Very natural. If he had been given a chance when young he could have done big things in that world. Charisma for days.
He was a great actor and just naturally comical without him even realising god bless governor 🙏
