    I live in London which is so multicultural now so I see this all the time. It's not just immigrants but uneducated Brits who haven't had a good upbringing. It all depends on how you are raised.

    • @icecreamforcrowhurst
      @icecreamforcrowhurst 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Certainly how you are raised can provide advantages but good manners can be learned and practiced by anyone regardless of background. You have to want improve and then practice.

    Miss Rebecca, you are a very good teacher, I like the way you teach and pronounce because I can understand everything you say, I come from Belgium (It's not an underdeveloped country), in my country we give a kiss to everyone even if we do not know the person. Also no one would be bothered by the smell of garlic, which is not at all well seen in Germany, that's why it's good for me to hear what your say. Thank you very much for your explanations and especially do not let yourself be discouraged by people who take your good advice as a personal attack

    I totally agree with number fourteen.The female supervisor I work with most definitely violates it! She once went into my truck to get the VIN for some reason and I had to smell her all day! Not that I don't like it,but I don't want my main work space smelling like perfume! Yes I'm a large trucker,but I definitely bathe myself every day.I draw the line at body spray in a professional setting.

    Thank you very much! I find it so useful! Especially the body odor part. It is not easy for people to be aware of their bad breath or clothe odor. And it is not in our culture that we need to take care of the smell. I always wondered why North Americans don't smell bad. you just gave me the answer. lol

    Many thanks from Italy. Since in our uncivilized country we don't have the faintest idea about how to behave properly, this lesson has been very usefull !! Thanks to your precious instructions, we now know that we don't have to fart, burp, and spit in pubblic !

    Generally speaking, in Spain people tend to speak with loud voice, so when we go to other countries can be difficult for us to low our voice. About the kiss, we usually give two kisses to a woman, but we shake the hand with a man.

    Once one of my colleagues was moving heavy things all by herself. I felt bad, so I politely asked, “Do you need a hand?” That’s one way to ask if she needs help. She looked up angrily and barked at me, “A hand? I have two hands!” I gave a nervous smile, mumbled, “Of course, sorry”, turned away, and kept my mouth shut. Since then I stopped using that expression “need a hand”.
    We have a Japanese colleague. If anybody asks, “How are you, Dr. Takagi?”, he becomes very uncomfortable with suspicion, and asks back, “Why?” So we have dropped general polite greetings with him. I had some non-English-speaking colleagues, things got more weird/ridiculous with them. They ask me, “How are you?”, I respond, “I am fine. Thank you. How about yourself?” They get very offended. One of them thought, “How about yourself” means “not your damn business”. Another guy thought, it means “What is that to you?”. A woman thought, it means “Go F- yourself”. Politeness is highly overrated.
