Always insightful listening to your teaching.
However, 1 Cor. 14 clearly states that if you speak in tongues in the church,
    i. there must be an interpreter, or the speaker should keep quiet in the church
ii. it should be done 2 or 3 at the most and 1 must interpret.
Also Paul said, “I will rather speak in 5 intelligible (words that can be understood) than a thousand words in an unknown tongue.
There are fruits of the spirit (Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Piety, Knowledge and Fear of the Lord) that should be preached.
There are other gifts of the spirit (Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Generosity, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-Control, Goodness, Modesty and Chastity).

There were tongues of men and of angels. The speakers of this age should also ask for the spirit of interpretation. The audience at Pentecost understood because they heard their native language being spoken by the apostles. Not necessarily spirit of Interpretation. The Apostles were speaking the tongues of men.

Have been listening to him and sometimes am more confused, in the sense that is he really interpreting the scriptures by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit?? Or his own understanding?? So you are right Bruce wedderburn.

It is not true that the audience were given the gift of interpretation. The languages that the apostles were speaking in was actual languages spoken by the people who heard them. What makes it astonishing is that the apostles were speaking actual languages of the people. Those languages had not been previously learned by them. The Spirit gave them that gift.

No man understands tongues not because it is absolutely unknown to anyone on earth. Tongues are certainly human languages unknown to the speaker, and sometimes the audience. No man understands more because he speaks in mysteries. The language may be understood as on the Pentecost but not the mystery. Mysteries are esoteric, convoluted speech which the audience may recognize (i.e. hear the dialect) but not understand. Mysteries are mentioned several times in the New Testament to refer to God’s divine purposes and plans which were once or previously hidden but are now revealed to believers, haven accomplished their purposes (I Corinth. 2:7-9; Col.1:26; 2:2-3; Eph. 3:4-5). Jesus spoke these mysteries in parables and said "Hearing they may hear and not understand". As regards speaking heavenly language, when Paul was caught up into paradise, he heard words in a heavenly conversation which he said is beyond the power of human speech. Neither is it permissible for humans to speak (2 Corinth. 12:4). So how does speaking in tongues become heavenly language? In I Corinth. 13:1, speaking the tongues of angels is certainly a hyperbole of the same literary genre as Gal. 1:8 where Paul appealed to the case of angels for emphasis. Paul did not mean that angels would come and preach to the Galatians anymore than he did claim that he or any of the Corinthians spoke the tongues of angels. Let us be more prayerful and cautious in the way we interpret the Scriptures.

I don't understand something! With these interpretation of the tongues, is the speaker speaking to God as Paul said in I Corinth. 14:2 or God is speaking to the church? As far as we know the verbal content of speaking in tongues is a declaration of the mysteries of God with praises and thanksgiving for His divine wisdom used to preserve these mysteries for our glory.
